Today for the first time I went online to the federal locator to pull up inmate information on a friend of mine. Actually, I didn't want to make a long distance call and I wanted the address to write to. To my surpise, they had a projected release date of 2007. However, this is just a friend, nothing more, he told me he would be release in 2004. I find it hard to believe that he would lie to me about his time. He actually wouldn't have any motive to lie. So I am hoping that there are some sentencing guide lines that I am unaware of that someone can give me insight on. I thought federal prisoners are required to do 80 to 85 percent of their time. Please help if you can. Thanks. He has been incarcerated since 1994 or 1995.

I am not exactly sure what to tell you because I am not positive that date is accurate when you take into effect the amount of time he has done. That may be his overall release date before you take into account the 85% time, and any half-way house time he got. I was released in Sept. of 2001 but the date that showed on the inmate locator (BOP) was March 2002, when I got out of the half-way house. So, it may or may not be accurate.. If I had to guess, I would say that it is an actual figure of when he will be completely out of the BOP.. Meaning he could be elligible for 1/2 way house sometime in 2006, but I could be wrong..

But whatever the outcome, his release date certainly wouldn't fall in 2004 or 2005. Am I correct?

That sounds correct to me, but I have not done the math.. You have to take into consideration whatever you deduct for the 85% time. What was his total sentence?

I had the same question about John. He was sentenced to 57 months. The earliest he can get out is about 3.7 years. But the projected date is Feb 2006. When I did the math, the date showed the total time he would have to serve if he had NO good time and did not complete the programs. But if he flies right the date will be earlier.

Sometimes release dates are totally off base. I know of a guy who had been out on ERS for two months, but in the inmate locator it showed him still incarecerated. If you don't want to make an expensive collect call, try using 10-10-220 then dial 1 plus the area code and the phone number. The call will only cost you 99cents. GOOD LUCK!
