TEXANS, help me ! I received a letter from my friend where he sais I can start to write letters of support to the board of pardon and paroles.

I his last letter he said we (his family, friends himselv and me...) had lots of time to prepare but what happened was that they corrected his time credit and on the inmate timeslip it sais "submitted for board review".

So tell me: HOW FAST DOES THIS HAPPEN ? Do I have to hurry as he seems to tell me??????

Thank God I HAD been reading and sending him all that I could find on pardon in Texas here on PTO already anyway - as it seems women don't like to do things in the last minute - smile, at least not me. So the other question I have is: Is there someone out here who could help me and for example read my letter when I have written it ? Its a complicate matter as my friend has been on death row and in ad. seg. but as I see it it is not hopeless at all cause he has some good points. I am exited, after 23 years he gets a chance.

Love to you all and hopefully someone will be around to tell me how much I need to hurry...Karlina

If he hasn't had his interview with the Institutional Parole Officer, then you still have probably 6-10 weeks at a minimum before the file gets to the Board office for a vote. The notation on a time sheet basically means that the case has shown up on a print out that the Parole Division uses to put cases into the review process.

Thank you :) !!!

Than I AM in a hurry....6 to 10 weeks is not very much time or so it seems to me. I don't think he has been interviewed yet. I better get started writing, I am still paralized and gasping for breath though....

Any good ideas anyone about what I should not forget to mention? I have a hard time to offer practical help (like f.e. a place to stay) since I don't live in Texas. I don't think they will let someone parole to Denmark - haha !!! So if someone goes around with some ideas please don't keep them to yourself !!!

Good Night for today, Love from Karlina

Thank you, Trulykath. I did write my letter and will p. m. it to you. I am contend myself, haha. Ohhh, I put alot of love and sweat in it...

My friend was already interviewed the 26. jan... Well I will see that I get my mail ready fast. But I have a few questions to you Texans left:

My friend is in Huntsville (Wynne Unit) and I found on the Parole side that the letters be mailed to Lafayette Collins and Charles Speier. The third one, Owens, expired in 2003 as far as I can see... so who is the third one I write to ?

Than my friend didn't know if he would write something himselv or not. I believe it is a good idea if he does. What do you think?

And the last question (so far): How do you address the Board Member in the letter ? I don't think a simple "Dear...." will do, right?

I hope someone will be there with an answer. Love from Karlina "optimistic"

I changed the heading on your letter and sent it back to you. The board will rotate first voting members all the time, and I think it's best to direct to

"Dear Board of Pardons & Paroles:"

Just my thought, as you never know who's going to open that file first. It won't hurt for him to write on his behalf. One other thing, make sure he has a copy, the board has it, and shoot a copy to Austin for good measure. You want to make sure your correspondence gets in his file.

Thank you so much !!! I did p.m.back and you will get my final version when kids are in bed later tonight :) .

After all I am really confused about the personal addresses (as we talk about in the other thread), I just prefer to make it to a person -

Why do I send a copy to Austin? Whereto?
