What can someone transferring take with them?

They will let him bring everything he has but in the 6 to 8 week process going prison to prison to be classified ,each prison seems to allow most items ,being hes in transit but when he get to his main unit they will search through all his stuff take what ever they dont want him to have ,just like each prison seems to have a diffferent commsary list of items you can buy but when you get to then next unit they may not allow it. If he has a hot pot please tell him to bring it with him dont let the county inmates trick him into leaving it.

When my fiance left harris county, they threw his letters away, and allowed him to put his shoes and clothes into his personal property which they held at the jail for 14 days for me to come pick up.
He was allowed to take some legal paperwork with him-on which he wrote addresses and phone #'s he knew he would need.
I've heard if they have a bible, and reading glasses they can take that. My fiance wears contacts, and they would not let him take any supplies for his contacts. I had even gone up to county and purchased a brand new, sealed bottle of solution, and brought him sealed/unopened contacts and they would not allow him to bring them with him to tdc. the waiting list is at least 6 months apparently, to get glasses, so right now he's just going w/out - which is cruel and unusual if you ask me.
There seems to be some debate about whether or not they can take a wedding ring. if they're wearing it when they're transferred, that seems to be the best thing - however tdc will engrave his tdc # on it, which seems pretty crappy, to me.
Our experience was they would not let him take any commissary purchased items, hotpot included. So you would want to put $ on his books, so he can purchase new supplies when transferred.
