This is the first time that she has ever been in prison or jail. Not really sure what to expect. She has been in the county for 2 weeks. I have several questions, but don't know where to begin. She is a non-violent offender, never done anything wrong, mother of 2 teenage sons, and in unchartered water. We just don't know anything. Can someone tell me anything at all?

If you have some specific questions, I'm sure many of the members who have dealt with Tutwiler will be happy to answer them or try to.

In the meantime, if you haven't read thru the threads and posts here in the Tutwiler subforum, I would recommend it..... probably many of the questions you may have are already answered here in the subforum.

In any case, welcome to PTO and the Alabama subforum :)

She will be going to hell. horrible conditions, brutal guards, terrible food, and she will be lonely and scared. Violent or non-violent, it doesn't matter, they treat everyone the same-badly. she might be bunked next to a murderer. she will have to put you on a visitor request list and it will take about a month to be able to visit. Vistation is every two weeks on a floating basis based on the first letter of the last name. Get her AIS# and dorm assignment and write to her all the time. Send her money orders so she can buy store items from the commissary-the food is not fit for human consumption and this might be the only nutrition she gets. Tell her to mind her business and that she has no friends in prison. Write to her a lot and remind her that you love her and that she has a life to come home to when it is over.
