Well, I tried this once before, but had to retract until all the legal issues were worked out. I guess they are now untangled, as I just received this message from VIP_Cali & PRUP Yahoo groups:
Okay folks, here's the deal. We now have TWO petitions to request the restoration of Family Visits. The online one at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/813250060 & the CUFJ one I posted then retracted last week.
As for the CUFJ one I posted & retracted, the additional research was done, so we now need to:
1) Sign each one individually, including name & address. Multiple signatures per petition will NOT have the same effect.
2) SNAIL MAIL them to CDC at the address on the petition. This, too, will be much more effective then faxing or emailing.
3) Spread the word. Make as many copies as you can & distribute them while visiting.
CDC has a specific amount of time to respond to each person who submits one. While neither of these petitions guarantees anything, they will show CDC A) how many people are affected by their inane rules, & B) how serious we are about getting Family Visits back.
Thank you in advance for your help & your efforts in getting this info out there to those who aren't online! Remember, there are approximately 160,000 people locked up in California. Not all family members/loved ones have computers. It is our responsibility to share the info & knowledge with them. If everyone does their part, we CAN do this!
