I just read this article and could not believe it. Even though I use to think that anything INS did wouldn't surprise me. However, once you read the article...the last paragraph really stops you in your tracks. If you can, take the time to read this.

THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF. AND THERE IS NO NICER WAY FOR ME TO SAY IT. GOD KNOWS WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A LOT TO ACCOUNT FOR ON JUDGEMENT DAY.

this also pisses me off! I believe CO's and people who work in prisons should get courses about mental ill people, 'mentally retarted' and how to handle people with trauma's.
Over here we have special prisons for foreigned with people who are trained to work with them and who at least speak 2 or more languages....

Ironically, my son (28) who is serving 40 months in FCI Coleman Low, Florida, was immediately assigned as Instructor for the GED program in English for English-speaking inmates, since he has an education and speaks the language pretty well. His native language is Spanish. After 10 months he finally requested a change to another job, because he was exhausted by the effort of dealing with them, but not with the US citizens, but with .. the Jamaicans and Haitians ! :)

Since UNICOR jobs are very scarce, he was offered a job at the prison's BAKERY. He is now cooking cakes and earning three times more (90/month instead of 30/month).

Escamillo,

I have yet to formally introduce myself to you. I have read your posts and your wisdom. My husband is in INS detention in Louisiana. He is from Cuba and of course INS have their own rules for "Cubans".

Anyway, just wanted to say hi.

Thanks Joy, in fact it is myself who still owes a self-introduction to PTO ! I'll take some minutes this week and do it. Please see my posts at the "Immigration and Travel Issues"forum, perhaps there is some information regarding third countries receiveing prisoner transfers, which may be of interest to you. My best wishes for the prompt release of your husband.

Un abrazo - Andrés
