I was wondering if anyone knew the rules for sending reading materials to inmates in NY. I want to send my husband a book for Valentine's Day called "How to Give Her Absolute Pleasure: Totally Explicit Techniques Every Woman Wants Her Man to Know" and I'm not sure if the DOC would allow it in? If anyone has any info. for me before I send it, I would appreciate it alot.

Thanks

Tammy

My guess it would be depending on the facility. I took my guy a book in it wasnt anything like that but....... I know that they have to be paperback, cant be hard covered. The only thing ya can do is try, but im sure someone might come along with a better answer than mine.

My paperback dictionary that I mailed from Fl. along with food and clothing just slid on thru...can you imagine? Seems like I read somewhere that a book could be delayed for up to 6 days while they examined it to see if there was anything that should not be in it???? If your ? is about subject matter I don't see how they could care since they allow Men's mags there....Good luck with it....I am sure he would love it if he gets it.....Judy
PS I feel like I should make this a part of my permanent sig....but it is true.....I think it has a lot to do with what day it is and what prison it is...my man is at Gowanda...

If you are questioning this because of the "adult" nature I don't think you'll have a problem. The guys get hardcore explicit girly-mags in all the time (it's better than finding pleasure with their cell-mate). As long as it's not a wire or spiral bound book it should be ok.

Yes, there is a 'review committee' that somtimes delays books. That happened to us when I sent a book on reiki. I have sent hard cover but they were 'factory sealed'
As Sweet-Pea said, if you want to send it, or take it in, just givve it a try. If you can get there yourself and take it with you, then it saves his having to mail it back or 'donate it' if they don't let him have it.

I didn't know you could send a book. I do know they can't be hardcover but I thought they could only get books if the bookstore mailed it. Fars magazines go, we can send those. I've always had the bookstore mail my husband's books (Barnes & Noble).

Tammy,
I don't think it should be a problem if they allow an inmate to have porn mags then that book certainly shold not be a problem.
