Most of you know that I've been slowly changing our guest room into an office for KEvin (our computer will remian in the dininig room tho). We now have a new desk, chair, framed posters with biblical scripture, an easy chair with a little table for his coffee cup, and I'm making the guest bed into a more "day bed" - taking off the headboard, changing the decor and throwing all kinds of pillow. It has a more "manly" look - plaid curtains, bookshelves, his hat collection on one wall. I've put storage of sorts in those rolling under the bed boxes. 2 closets is for him - fishing stuff, games, etc - one I still need a place for excess craft crap that I can't keep in the dining room - oh and those clothes I WILL fit back into by summer!
I bought him a nice area rug and office supplies. He'l be finsihing school (seminary) when he comes home) has a job offer in Ca as asst pastor already, even with the education he already has, so he may just take that), but his dream is to write a book. I've quenched it for too long. Thought it was silly. I'm no longer that same woman or wife, I'm the wife who will move out of his way and let him do whatever he wants - as long as he still brings home the bacon, he can write to hearts content. I want to support him in this, thus the office. Somewhere where he can come on and it's just HIS room, nothing frilly, flowery, smelling like potpouri.
I bought one od those little wodden dorr hangers like on hotels "DO not disturb". I want to decorate it - like one side being he's working hard, cannot disturb and the other - he's doing nothing important and to come in anytime. But of course, much more creative. I'm creative when it comes to the actual decorating - I like to use wooden letters, cutouts, etc - but I'm horribly un-creative when figuring out how to word things. I'm taking offers of HELP! I like funny, poetic, biblical, and whimsical. Nothing "off the wall", too "Serious", or too much writing I can't fit it on the plaquard (about 12"X5"). Rememeber, there's 2 sides - sides of "get out - I've got ideas on my mind I've got to get out and Come int - you might as well, i' haven't gotten any ideas anyway.'
I was also thing of a sign for the door - not just "Kevin's OFfice - too boring. Any ideas? I love to craft the stuff together, llok for ideas at contry stores, etc - thought I'd hit you guys up, since there's o many of you on here, I know there's bound to be some creative juices flowing. Is a sign too much/too tacky - along with the knob hanger?
Also, the curttains are maroon, blue, and green plaid. Cute really - but not girly. I'm doing those color throw pillows - got a tan colored comforter since our cats seem to leave white fur on anything dark. I'm buying just pine planks to make a few wall shelves for boooks, etc. The walls are white, most of the photoes and posters are in Oak. Should I just stain the pine Oak, or would it look stupid to color each of the shelves (red, blue, green)? Does that sound too much like a kids room? The easy chair I've got I've recovered with SureFit (as I did the living room set and it looks brand new for under $200!) - I'ts dark green. I have an antique footstool thats been in our bedroom, literally holding books for a year - what about reupolstering it to look like the plaid curtains (if I can find someting like that) and using that? We have an old coffee table in there that I think looks in the way, my friend said "keep it" he can use it for his ship model. But I don't think he'd want to do it on a coffee table anyway. What if I kept our card table in the closet and he could bring it out when he's ready to start the mmillion hour project?? Doesn't a coffee table on one wall sound bulky, or does it sound ok? I just hate the "busy" look, it doesn't bother me at all if there's empty space on a wall. Moving the ironing board to the babies nursery (built while trying to adopt, now willl be used when we MAKE our own baby starting in April!
Ideas ideas?????Shelves over the windows for plants (fake - I kill them) or is it too busy??
I'll take pics of it when I'm done. Too bad I didn't do before - it looked like a garag, it was, we opened the dooor and literally threw everything in there. Mores ideas??? I use baskets aroound the house for magazines, is that too feminine? Should I move all of our bill/paperwork stuff in there or keep it at the puter desk and leave his room a relaxation room with nothing to do with paying bills?
Now that I can put alot of his theology books back there, our bookcase will be empty - guess I've got to get on half.com (altho I feel guily reading while going to school!).
Hope I get some great ideas! I know you guys will comes thru for me. Now it's almost 5, I've got to get some sleep. Nighty night, I'll talk mor tomorrow!!
Blesssings - especially for ideas! :sleepy:
