FriscoLady 01-25-2004, 04:27 AM Jane, I have to admit that I have not had the opportunity to use the VA very much. But, I can give some input. I have used my medical benefits since I came home. In fact, the last time was over the holidays when I was in hospital. But, I go to the service hospital simply because it is closer. Just after I was sentenced, there was some concern whether it would effect my retirement pay. It did not, in fact, when my ex called the Pay Center he was told, that the retirement pay was based on honorable service performed before my retirement and a conviction/incarceration after retirement was not a concern, to them. So, if that is what you are asking I don't see where a conviction after leaving the military would affect your/or your loved one's entitlement to the VA benefits. But, the VA is the best source, call them. Patti FriscoLady 01-25-2004, 04:42 AM Jane, I just sent you a pm, with the VA information phone numbers you will need. Good Luck! Patti jane_t46 01-26-2004, 02:19 PM No, the questions or concerns I have is that my husband was told by the BOP that there are benefits available upon release. That would be monies to help with tuition, small business loans, etc. This is not because you are a veteran but also because you are a ex-Club Fed member. Now this came from the BOP directly to my husband. They also told him that there was monies available for rent while he is incracated. I don't believe that but that is the information he is getting. Also, that there are benefits from SS Admin because "we" are considered a repressed minority. They did not touch his retirement (24 years - honorable discharge - test pilot for Cobra - and a CWO3). I just don't know where to start hunting. Thanks so much for the reply - if you find out anything further, please let me know. In the meantime.....I will continue to hunt!!
