Hey all
What are the criteria for a inmate to be transfered to another facility? No idea where he will be or for how long yet, but we would like to get him to San Louis Obisbo because I have a place tp stay in Morro Bay.All i would need to do is fly out there. Also, do you think a former inmate would be allowed visitation? I will be staying with an old friend of franks that he was in with in cal 14 yrs ago. He and his mom live in Morro bay and that would be great if one or both of them could visit too.

Kmeg, it depends on what kind of transfer your talking about, a CDC transfer, a hardship transfer, A transfer comming out of reception, etc. As for ex-prisoners visiting, CDC will let ex-prisoners visit if they aren't on parole, or probation, they pass the background check, etc. If someone is on Parole or probation, they need permission from their PO, & the warden (Good luck).

I guess I mean if he were placed in a northern cal prison, I would like to see if he could be moved to San Louis Obisbo to the Men's Colony. Or is that something that we can try to request while he is still in reception? It's just that It will be so much easier to visit him more often if it is near Morro Bay.

Can you request a prison for him to be transfered to, yes you can. Will it do any good, probably not. They send them from reception to what ever prison has a open bed in thier point level. If there is two prisons with opennings they will put him in the closest of the two to the county his crime was commited in. Every prison that I know of in Calif has a minimum security yard, it's these guys who do the work at the prison between yards, & outside the gate. Calif isn't keen on moving prisoners around just for the convience of their families, they do it for the convienence of CDC. The only thing that they will truely consider is a true hardship transfer. I have seen many of these over the years.--------Ken

I have to say "No" that it wouldn't do any good to request where he's placed after he leaves Tracy or wherever he ends up doing his "Reception".

Believe me I tried it, I wrote letter to his counselor at Tracy and his counselor at Wasco. I was pregnant and alone and wanted nothing more than for him to be placed either in Folsom or somewhere remotely closer to home than he was actually placed (4 hrs from home near Bakersfield). Because of their placement the last time I saw him was when I was about 7 months pregnant & when I FINALLY got the approval from Wasco (mid-December) to visit him my Dr. said NO WAY!.. So, I didn't get to see him until our son was 8 days old!

But, some of it I believe has to do with the space they have or don't have for them too. And I really don't believe they care what we want at all. We are just the ones who love the inmates. And in their eyes no better than the inmates I'm sure. But, that's their opinion :)

G'night All

Where is Tracy? Northern Cal? I wish they would at least give us some idea where he will go initially. But I guess after driving to ohio that once I get out to Cal a 5-6 hour drive will be a breeze.
It is the Sacramento Fugitive unit that will have control over that I think.
Also does my 8 yr old REALLY have to have a picture id to visit??!!!? And where do I get that?
Thanks to all of you for answering my questions!! You are great.
I was doing a search the other day and found an article by The Sacramento Bee about a federal judge deciding that the way parole revocation hearings are held is unconstitutional. But it could be a LONG time before any change. here is the link..

Tracy (DVI) is a 45 minute drive from me South, Southwest and I'm in Stockton, CA. That means in the center of the State and reachable off Interstate 5.

As too a photo ID, you might try the DMV, if it's required??

Kmeg,

I believe the only prison right now, that you need a picture ID for children over 7 years old is at New Folsom ( CSP-SAC). If you are living out of state you need a ID for that state or a pasport if you have one. For a state ID, all you need to do is go down to your local DMV . It's not a bog hassle. The only problem we had was my son having to sign his name on the computer strip that they use here. It took him atleat 10 tries , but he finally got it!!

B-Ray,
I would be staying in Morro Bay, but flying into San Fran. I just hope that he is close.
I was reading the new visiting rules and that is where I found the *children over 7 may need picture id*
Kelly,
The kids have to sign? This is so different from ohio, seems that Ohio is super lenient compared to cal.

My son just had to sign his name on his Calif. ID card. The same as you do on your driver's licence. The only thing he has to do at the prison is to show his ID to the C/O in the control both to get in and out of the visiting room. But my husband right now is in a high security prison. This is the reason for all the hassles.

KMEG, If he's at DVI, you have a lot of driving to do if coming from Morro Bay! Tracy is from 1 hr to 1 1/2 hr drive to the San Franisco Air port. The Monday I went to the North Bay area it took 3 1/2 hrs to do an 1 1/2 hr drive because of traffic.

If you look at a California map, Tracy is at Highway205 (HWY205) & Interstate5 (I5) and you can figure the drive from where you will be. You will be traveling on some VERY busy Highways!!
