:cuffs: I'm sure a lot of you have read KConnor56's posts about the Life on the inside. If you haven't you're missing something. (See Ca Forum) Obviously it was about male inmates. I read about racism and gangs as well as some of the violence that does exist. I also read a small section on sexuality.
Anyway my question is, is the world of the male inmate and the female inmate similar? Are there the same type of gangs with the same types of social heirarchy within the walls? And violence and intimidation, is there more or less? And thanks again to KConner56 for some remarkable stories of prison.

My lady is still in prison and what she describes to me in letters is somewhat different from what I experienced when I was in. While there are still gangs, etc., she's not likely to be strip-searched by a guard of the opposite sex (I was several times). Violence doesn't seem to be as pervasive as it was where I was incarcerated. Having said that, she still has to put up with obnoxious guards and inmates. Of course, prisons differ and only she can tell you what kind of experiences she's having. So write her a lot.

Men are competitive, women are territorial... You may quote me.
Women suffer decency more often...
Their world is not the same, any more than they are the same as men.
They invariably are someone's daughter and might be someone's mother, that makes a difference in how they relate to eachother. They suffer decency. They homestead. They make the most of their nests and have a capacity to share.
As we write back and forth I'm starting to get somewhat of a picture of her new life and it sure isn't something I would wish on anyone especially her. I believe she can take care of herself but also tells me she's not making any friends. That doesn't sound good and makes me worry. She tells me a lot of these women have done some pretty awful things so in some ways I can't blame her. She's still in R/C so hopefully soon she'll move on.
My Shellie has moved on "over the wall" as she calls it. She has left the reception center and now finds herself in the "big jail" with over 3000 women in the main yard.
She says she has to wait 2 weeks before she actually enters the yard.
I don't think she's real happy at still being there (VSPW). I think she had hoped to go to firecamp and cut into her sentence. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi
I have a lady friend at VSPW. She has been there for awhile. Things are in a termole now with all the budget cuts going on. They have a good warden there. They don't have much trouble there. She should be allright if she is carefull who she hangs with. There are some good ladies there.
GEO: As of my most recent letter from her, she said she was in a cell with a lifer, but that she was very sweet and nice and couldn't imagine what she could have done. I guess she'll find out eventually. I was surprised that she felt better in the Big Jail than in the reception center. She said there was less fighting and screaming. Hmmm.
How long has your friend been inside?

So her world has changed once again, she's been shipped from VSPW down to firecamp training in Corona, Ca. She's as happy as you can be in prison, so she says. There's a lot more freedom there with an open air environment. CO's aren't yelling at her and feels she can actually be productive. Plus now instead of being over 6 hours away she's less than an hour away since I'm here in Orange County.

Congrats on the good news, its more than likely she is telling you the truth when she says it is a whole lot better there. :)
