View Full Version : Visitors' Trauma and What Not 2 Do

I just read a blog post about someone who had a horribly, almost mentally scarring time on a visit to Allenwood, and so I thought I'd give aheads-up to anyone else going out there on a visit.

There's one particular lady who works the visiting room a lot. She's tall, slender, light-brown hair, and looks/is Puerto-Rican. She's Ms. Feliciano. She's notorious with inmates as a hard-balls b!tch. She will and HAS locked up inmates for allegedly staring at the wrong parts of her body. She treated most of us like less-than-human garbage, and here's the kicker--she treats family the same. Hell, even the other guards can't stand her...so you know she hates indiscriminately.

If you go on a visit and happen to encounter a female of this description (there aren't any others that look like her), just DON'T say anything to her. If she asks you a question, answer her in as few words as possible. If she tells you something, just grit your teeth and agree with her. This lady LOVES abusing her power, she loves to treat people like crap, and it absolutely makes her day if you even start to talk back to her. She wil (and has) terminated visits just because a parent said the wrong thing to her.

Just smile a fake smile, and nod, and when you get home, come back here and rant all about her! :)

I'm also told there's a reeeeally huge guy...like 300lbs or so, orange hair, who should be treated the same. But if you really wanna piss that guy off, his nickname among the inmates is Shrek. :p

Oh yeah I've seen the really fat guy, pretty much all visits I've gone on he's always there! LOL... Shrek makes so much sense but too bad he doesn't have green skin to match the description perfectly! ;)

NS - I am really glad to have you here! I don't think she's that slender or that tall! PLEASE! We've all experienced her at some point and agree w/ the above. She has a fetish about rental car keys, i.e. sometimes stupid rental cars give you 2 ignition keys? Why? That's another story and they don't come apart...........she gave me a 5" discussion about this and said if I drove my own car, I could only bring in the remote or the ignition key, which I knew already. I said, of course!

Then one time, I wore a sweatsuit (some of you already know this story) and apparently didn't cover my ass enough or she thought it was too tight so she made me go back to my hotel in Lewisburg and change but I didn't argue at all. She said you can't come in and there was another female guard at the lobby sign in desk, and she just rolled her eyes........when I came back she processed me right away. Feliciano will make you stand at the end of the line if you leave. I've been there 10 times in almost 7 months..........I certainly don't dress up much.........she was probably just jealous that my ass looks better than hers! LOL;) Kidding! Since then she's actually been really nice to me...........i just say thank you to her and all of them no matter what but I still can't wait for her rotation to be over, think end of the month.....however, she wasn't there last weekend. I wonder why she's still there if all the inmates, families and other guards hate her. I've seen her go to female visitors and make an issue if their shirts are too low cut, etc.
Shrek is also called Big Red and I've seen him do his thing but he has always been nice to me and my family..........I will take him anyday over Feliciano - heard folks call him Big Red.........he has asked my brother if family is coming to visit so honestly, don't mind him but its because again, I'm always polite. He was there last weekend so probably covering for someone but will back october 1st.

As mentioned earlier, there is another female guard I see alot - T. Wright? She is always very nice. A "Nick Lachey" lookalike is the same way and others.........these folks who I see quite a bit always wish me a good trip back home............For the most part, as you mentioned above, just grin and bear it.............we're in their house of rules...........

Thanks NS!

The rotation happens on Sept. 26th, but there's always a good chance she'll stay there. The warden will keep her where she does the most "good". She sucks, sure, but while she's there, the warden never hears about incidents and whatnot. And that's all he cares about. She was working the VR alot during my last year there, and I was very thankful, because I didn't get visits, so I never had to deal with her! I had to Google-Image this Nick Lachey guy, but I can't imagine who his lookalike is. Wright sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't place the face. Two other female guards you might encounter are Martin (toothpick black-haired) and Shaeffer (pudgy [but cute, to me] black-haired). Both are nice, and don't seem to cause problems.

PS: I think MY ass looks better than Feliciano's ;)

I cannot believe the warden has not gotten numerous complaints, calls and letters from visitors, inmates, etc. about her so i don't get that at all!

I like Schaeffer - she looks SO young but pleasant last weekend.........come on.......you don't know Nick Lachey (married to Jessica Simpson?) there is a guard there that looks like him!

I'm sorry to hear you did not get visits.........I know bro understands how far we have to come but so grateful nonetheless

I've visited only 3 times and I've always had Shrek/Big Red or the Nick Lachey guy- he's the one with styled spiked hair right?? Always had white uniform shirt whenever he works. He was there the weekend when I came to visit and when Mev was there the same time. I wonder what his name was... he was nice to us. Big Red was nice to us in my opinion. My friend knows Big Red and doesn't really talk to him much, he keeps a distance from the CO's though. I'd have to ask him about Felicano though. I don't think I have ever seen her.

Who is the co with the shaved head? He is all smiles if the lieutenants are not there [the white shirts] If the white shirts are there he is all business. I liked him.

I believe the white shirts signifies that they're lieutenants. But I'm not sure what blue means but probably a regular CO? I could be wrong. I sometimes wish I could take pictures of the CO's and post it up for Nickstone to see and tell us which are nice and which are not! LOL!

Wish there was a website with co pictures. I was told today is the last day for this warden at Allenwood low

I've seen some guys in white who were acting lieutenants. I think anyone with a certain "GS" rating or higher can wear white. There's also some kinda ranking significance in the color of their nametag (blue, silver and gold). But here's a question. Get a good look at the flag on the sleeves of their uniforms. Why are the flags backwards?? The gold trim around the flag means something like they're "property of the U.S. government". :)

I don't think you guys'll ever meet Lt. Scampone. He looks exactly like Ferris Bueller's dad. He's a real piece of work. He's another one widely hated among his co-workers. I use to work in the office at the recreation yard. Sometimes he would come in, shmooze with the C.O.s that work there, and try and act like "one of them". They couldnt wait for him to leave.

Oh, cameras in the VR...woohoo! Hey, you know they have that kid that takes pictures...maybe you can get him to angle it so a C.O. shows in the background. Hey, did they ever reopen the outside patio of the VR? like the whole thing?

mimmis1
09-11-2009, 07:16 PM
yeah last time i was up there in august they had the whole patio but they were very aware of who was keeping their back to the camera and what activity was going on i heard they close the patio and that is too bad because that vr can get really loud at least on the patio it was semi quiet oh well i know they have to keep order so i guess they do what they need to do:cool:

pink05
09-11-2009, 08:23 PM
LOL. I had to google Ferris Bueller's dad and see what he looked like! I'd have to look closer to the flags on the CO's uniforms. Yup, when I was visiting in June, they opened the left side of the patio but they didn't open the right side and that sucked because that side had tables! Would have been nice to sit on the tables because whenever I visit, I usually go with friends and we're all deaf and we communicate through sign language. So we have to really tilt towards to each other and see what each other is saying on the bench. But in the VR, we would sit across each other so we could see each other better.

My son said they removed the tables for a party for one of the guards. I saw the umbrellas on the other side of the double doors . there is another area like the left patio on the other side of the main sidewalk.

Still have only one phone call and one letter.

Oh. That sucks you haven't heard from him that often. I know that inmates that are in the SHU is allowed one phone call a month- correct me if I'm wrong, nickstone. Letters- I'm sure he is allowed as many as he wants. BTW, I found out that we got approved for the house so we're moving in at the end of month! So excited!!!

Congrats on the house, pink. Dad and I were as close as you at closing on our house, until we found out it periodically floods, and may have a cracked foundation. Still more months in this dreary apartment.

Correct on both accounts; phone calls and letters. I can guess why he hasn't written: nothing's happened. I'm guessing no one's pulled him from his cell to talk to him or ask questions, Unit Team hasn't stopped by the door and given him any updates. It's nothing but eat, sleep and pace the cell. Not really much to write home about--I use to fight my mind to come up with something to write in my letters. :)

pink05

I hope you get a house soon! I was really close to get a house with an inground pool for $2,000/month that included utilities (who could pass that one up!??) but a family got it before we could apply for it! But in the long run, I'm happy that we didn't get that house because this house is much nicer!!

I can only imagine that being in SHU is not a pleasant place to be and is absolutely boring. I actually just finished a book by Jodi Pioccult, "Change of Heart." It was actually based in a prison setting! It was really good, I recommend anyone to read it.

Two thousand a month?? That's not rent, is it? I was looking for one to buy, for like $8,000. The realty market's so bad here, it's a buyers' paradise.

I made the best of SHU by writing my novels while I was there. I would spend hours pacing my cell, twiddling my fingers and thinking about "the next scene". And when I had a cellmate...God help him. I talked constantly about what I wrote, what I was working on, and what I was thinking about adding. To one of these guys, I read an entire story to him. Later on he was able to quote it back to me as if he'd read it himself.

Ohh, the SHU memories. We use to make home-made string with the elastic of our underwear, then poke a hole in a thin bar of soap and tie the string to it. There was just enough space under the door to sling it down the hall. Then another guy would throw a line out, snag the other guy's line, pull it into his cell, and use these fishing lines to pass things back and forth...magazines, stamps, thin books...sometimes food. :)

Here's another SHU story for ya: I had just gotten whacked in the face and sent to SHU, at a time when my dad was waiting for my phone call. He worries, and I didn't want him to. I hadn't received my property yet so I didn't have my dad's newly-acquired mailing address. My cellmate used the phone, and before the guard came back to remove the portable "cell phone", I called my dad. I got a "shot" for it, and told 'em "ya know what? I don't care, it was worth it." They gave me an A for effort, cuz no one else had ever tried it before.

Yes, that house that we found with the inground pool was $2,000 a month in utilities and rent. Now we're going to move into a house for $1,650/month in rent. I know that it sounds so steep but we have roommates that helps pay that amount. We each pay $412 a month+utilities. My boyfriend and I would love to buy a house but we don't have a down payment ready for a house but we can look into rent to own homes but it's very unlikely we'll stick around here permanently. So we have to continue to throw away money.

Oh fishing lines huh? In the book, Change of Heart, it mentioned that they had fishing lines to pass stuff around. So in the SHU, you guys were able to talk to each other or is that not allowed? I can't imagine what SHU would be like if you are deaf and you can't hear anyone talking to you or anything. It'd be totally solitary+pure boredom. Ya know what I mean?

Yup, my friend and I are deaf. We communicate through sign language. We don't have any hearing at all. To communicate with each other, we have to be face to face like I sit across him so it would make communication more effective. If you were to sit on a bench with him and we have two other friends on another bench right next to the bench, we would have to tilt sideways to see what the other is saying because we rely visually not on hearing.

Hi Mimmis - did they tell him what wasn't complete or did he just complete a new form? Once the counselor in my brother's unit received, I was approved in less than 3-5 days. If need be, your son can speak to his counselor, not the case manager. Good luck!

The counselors themselves to the actual footwork of approving a visitor...like background checks, and whatnot. It's not a lengthy process, but counselors are lazy and go on vacation a lot. A phone call to him/her shouldn't hurt.

Hey there/my God, how true....... I just smile & sometimes joke...... she doe not like that much, but I have watched her treat hispanic people better. SO...... I brushed up on my Spanish, even though I am not of Spanish decent... Said a stupid word or 2 to her. and she has pretty much left me alone since. But I remember going into the VR crying, because she was so condescending......... Kill her with kindness. But BITCH is an understatement, so sad. It is not like it is a party for ANY OF US!! & Shrek?? My hisband & I call him big red!! He is an ass too.. but again, I just smile & don't let the bastards know they are affecting me!!

Hey pink, I think you're a wonderful person and I'm guessing you're an absolute delight to be around, but I'm wondering if the CO's don't give you any trouble because you're deaf? I mean. They couldn't really say anything mean to you...and I'm sure they don't discriminate! They'll be mean to anyone! ;) And I'm sure they don't know sign language...except maybe the middle finger? :D

I'm thankful I don't have to deal with them anymore, but there's a chance I might. In 2014, it will have been 10 years since my conviction, and I'll be eligible to go back and visit some of my friends. I have a friend in there I call my adopted brother, and I intend to at least try to see him. =)

I think you are a wonderful person as well to help us understand the process of the system down at Allenwood and how it goes. Lol... so far the CO's are not giving us a hard time at visiting or anything. But my friend gets by with bringing around a pad and pen for communication and he has a memo from his case manager that he is allowed to bring those around. New CO's tend to not know that until he shows them the memo and they just go Oh... OK alright and they can't do much. COs that are familiar with him doesn't need to see the memo because they know who he is. But the downside about that the fact he's deaf that he is known by almost every CO and they know his face. So whenever he wants seconds in the mainline, they know he has gone through already so they say no to him. So sometimes he has some of his buds to go get something for him because they can get away with getting seconds. But, for sure, they do NOT know any sign language at all. They dont intend to know any but I know that his case manager knows some sign language. And she actually has this philosophy that she would love her children know sign language and that sign language is a great foundation of language because you can learn it at a very young age. The nurse in the medical knows some finger spelling. The CO's do some gestures but no signs.

i agree with nick it is hard on all of us but to be deaf must really be a tough road for him he must be a pretty strong guy to handle this as well.Stay strong, he is truly blessed to have a friend like you who is there for him i am sure it really helps him get thru the rough times

?

I feel like I'm eavesdropping in the wrong section of PTO lol, but I was intrigued by your subject title, and then I was reading and knew the answer to your question :D

Bit of trivia I knew from being a military brat -

if they were wearing an actual flag on their uniform, and they were walking, the flag would lay back on them, appearing backwards. I don't know if that makes sense the way I'm explaining it or not. But picture a flag hanging on their sleeve, and them walking forward. If you picture how the flag would lay, it lays as the patch does.

useless trivia lol sorry

pink we went to a tiger game sunday long drive. My grand kids love my I phone I have added all kinds of fun applications and programs. After we became friends I added a program to my fone called sign lite . My 2 granddaughters spent the trip learning sign language. It was so cool. I told them I was writing to a friend who was deaf. It was a short program but they quizzed each other 2 see if they remembered. lefty

Going to LSCI 9/25 and 9/26
Is it true that the rotation ends at the end of the month? i.e. will Ms. F still be there? Just want to make sure I don't wear anything too tight!:p

Anyone hear of any drama lately?

I want to stick to the topic onhand here............

Do the CO's rotate on a quarterly basis? I know Big Red was in the units and will most likely be back in VR - just as Ms. F will leave VR - beginning of October or end of September?

I guess it doesn't really matter - I'm going to visit no matter what.........
God bless to all

Not everyone definitely gets rotated. Feliciano could do multiple shifts in the VR. Inmates always have their ear to the rumor-mill, and they'd be able to say for sure who's getting moved where. There was one guy, Mr. Pastori (everyone, including the COs, called him TightPants)...meanest guy on the compound, worked our unit three shifts in a row... That wasn't a fun year.

Nick - thanks so much for the useful information..however, I can't say I'm happy to hear the above......everyone is on pins and needles when Feliciano is there and I was looking forward to having her gone by the end of this month!!!!!!!!! URGH!
Also, there is an A------------right now in Brady on the evening shift (3-11pm?) who gives everyone a hard time.........he told bro that he had too many books on the desk (dude.........their christian bible books) and said he had too many newspapers (I got him a subscription to the Chicago Sun-Times and well..........sometimes their delayed and backed up - duh, it has to go from Chicago to PA)........THEN when I send cool magazines, his cellies want to read as well, when their done, they apparently put in the mail room to circulate.................NO THIS A----------- throws it out! I was hoping he was going to be gone as well end of month.
Would that be "tight pants" - I wonder - that's hilarious!
Also, he's there Wed - Sun so I have this mail thing down to a science. I now only send letters, cards, paperback books, magazines on Wed and Thurs from Chicago because I send 3 day priority - which means.........he gets mail only on Mon and Tues and doesn't have to get hassled.........its worked since then!:blah:
Thanks for the info

ooooh, I know who that is...hmmm, I'll say, 70% chance it's Pastori (aka TightPants) and 30% chance it's Hamilton. Mr TightPants loves nitpicking over little stuff... I'll hope and pray he's outta there too...we'll all know on the 26th, but the inmates I'm sure already know.

My friend wrote back and asked me if Ms. Felicanco is known as "Cuban?" He said that Cuban is always giving them hell and is hard on them. Shaeffer doesn't work in Lycoming unit but works in other units but knows who she is.

The fat guy is Shrek, but he's a great big ol' Teddy Bear compared to this guy. TightPants is much worse.

I'm fighting a killer kidney infection so if I disappear for a while, I'm lying in bed crying :D

I'm hoping to go see my son for the first time since he got moved to Allenwood Low.
All this information about the COs being reallly nasty to everyone is kind of scarey. We hope his fiance will be allowed to visit, she couldn't before because the visiting rules at the Detension Center would not allow her to see him. It might be difficult for her becauses she has severe social anxiety disorder, and doesn't do well with groups of people. He has been there alomost a month and we still haven't gotten any visiting forms or even letters because he wasn't able to see a counselor yet. He couldn't send mail without the special labels that he had to see a counselor for. I don't understand how they can hold up mail that way.

dear mom remember all things at the prison take time and you need to be patient my son has been there for almost a yr and it took a while before everything was in process your son needs to send you some forms in the mail fill them out completely and send it back we went ours return receipt requested just to make sure they got there. Even though he cant write you you can write him address on bop web site i try to write my son as often as possible every day or two if i can at least once a week talk to him as if we were sitting across the table from each other at the end of a day i tell him about my work and family and the town etc he really enjoys the letters. keep up on this web site and while there are some co that are harsh he will find out who he can talk to and who just to be civil to

I can honestly say that when I was in Allenwood from Oct 07 til Aug 08 I never had a problem. Feliciano was in the VR several times when my wife came to visit. but only told me once about putting my arm around my wife. She was really nice to me and my family, but I know she can be mean. When I first arrived in Union Unit, we had Shrek for 2 rotations in a row. Union always had great guards. I worked in education as a tutor until my last three months and then I went to CCS 2. Education "guards" are idiots. None of them should even be there. I think the best guard is Kingston and there is one other guy who I can't remember his name, but I think when I was there he was always in Greg. He always used to joke with inmates and he was really cool. You don't get many of them there.

you guys have truly made my day, and yes i have encounter every last one you are speaking of. I know for a fact i had a blouse on with a black tank top on the inside with buttons darn near up the neck and about the time they finished sending me in and out i didnt recognize the outfit i had on. My husband made a joke asking me did i get dressed in the dark. I try to take their remarks with a grain a salt. Remember our men have an out date and that is all that counts. God Bless them and us.
