Well, I'm sure it's just about like what you'd imagine it would be if they put you there. Why are you asking this question? If you give us more information, we'd probably be able to help you better.

Hi there,
I am not sure what you are after, but to answer your question about Death Row and how it feels you can follow this link http://www.fdp.dk/martin/index.htm and click on the "My writings from death row" link. Martin has been on Death Row in TX for many years, and has written quite a bit that may help answer your question. You can also try a Google search (Type Death Row) in the search, and you will find other guys who write from the row about what their lives are like.
I hope I helped a little bit.
Best wishes.

No offense, but what kind of a question is that? What do you THINK it is like? The worst possible thing ever, the worst and ultimate sentence anyone can receive. I am very sensitive to this topic so that is why I am defensive to silly questions like this.

I don't know, I think it's a question that a person could wonder about, never having been through it. I mean OBVIOUSLY it would not feel good, but only those who've lived it know the real story, and their writings are fascinating. If more people really sincerely wanted to contemplate what it would feel like being put on Death Row, I can only imagine there would/will be less people thinking the death penalty is OK. Maybe I'm naive and if so forgive me, but I read that as an innocent question.

And I think toi said a mouthful. It would never feel the exact same way for any two individuals- except, as has been pointed out too, the worst feeling imaginable.

I saw this question before. And I too wonder what kind of a question is that? How about I ask a question? What is the morbid fascination with Death Row? I cannot imagine. I was against the DP before I had two loved ones on the Row. So having them their did not enlighten me to the DP. How about I tell you what it is like for us who have had our loved ones ripped from our lives and sent to subhuman conditions on DR(?). Well it is the MOST HORRIBLE feeling in the world. And it NEVER GOES AWAY! It is the last thing I think about at night. The first thing i think about in the morning. I worry all the time. Why? Because they were sent there out of revenge. Not because they DID IT. Because they did not do it. In this state that does not matter. So everyday I pray that someday someone will listen to me. that I will find the lawyers I need. In the mean time I go to visit and am happy just to see them. Just to know that at least for that time they are OK. What these juries don't understand is that this is a sentence for us as well. In the case of DR well cruel and unusual punishment does not even begin to describe the feeling.

i can not even imagine the feelings and emmotions that a person would go through sitting on the row. it has to be the worst thing imagineable. i only hope and pray that some day soon there will be no such thing as death row . there is a better way. and hopefully it will be worked on soon take care all peace and love mary

my thoughts
I cannot even relate or even imagine what one must experience on death row. I cannot even imagine how there family feels. I know in my own mind I feel sorry for deathrow inmates and I kind of vision what there life may be like and how they cope with it day to day. to me they are still human like you and me and they feel and they hurt too. I just pray for them that they get at least some kind of peace in there heart to make it through there toughest days. thanks for listening

I think Rosita has written out "how it feels" very well. At least I agree.

As my loved one is on death row I take it one day at a time with as much hope a person can that a miracle will happen and the Death Penalty will be overturned. I cannot allow myself to think about my baby's sentence in relation to him being on death row as it consumes me. I focus my energy on enjoying every moment with him and researching the appeals process. I devote a lot of my time to finding ways to improve his immediate conditions as he has been in the AC (hole) for two years. There are days that I am overcome with fear of his sentence and what could happen but focusing my energy in a negative way will not do anything to prevent it from happening so I try to create a diversion of some sort to get myself out of those tough days. I do have nightmares of "that day" which are all too real and take days to recover from. As time clicks on I seem to become a little more afraid.

:) Rosita,

and you know, I think "overwhelmed" fits my feelings list as well. there are so many people with the opinion of, "they wouldn't be on death row if they didn't do it, our 'system' is fine, nothing's wrong." I can't be angry about that, as it makes me so sad that people can't see past themselves and just go about believeing the media or what they were taught from childhood. i do get angry, however, when people are so stubborn to listen to the reasons i feel the way i do about it. I get angry when the law of "beyond reasonable doubt" systematically doesn't apply in sooooooooooo many cases.

Now_Live, How true! Its folks like us that need to speak out at every possible opportunity. They can't shut me up. That's for sure. I will try to make a difference. I will speak out against this most hideous of punishments for the rest of my life. Hang in there. :)

my thoughts are this. What is it like facing death every day? I just go to work. I work in the cancer ward at the hospital where I'm from and I see these people live in a typs of prison for the rest of their days too. chemo, drugs, counts, regimens, asking a stranger to go to the bathroom, having strangers watch you in every state of undress and barge in on you in the bathroom, asking permission to go smoke, personal needs ignored, loss of control of your entire life at the top of your game, 24 hour noise,... Even if you leave here healthy for the moment you know you'll be back. It is just a matter of time before you die. the choice now is do you stay angry at your circumstances or accept it, make peace and appreciate the joys along the way, no matter how microscopic.

I respectfully disagree with you. No I will never accept a death sentence. He did not do it. I am not or cannot go into details but he is falsely convicted. I am not giving up on him. Neither is he. Nor are we accepting this. That's why God gave us life. To be ever mindful of its preciousness. That's my take as a DR wife and a Catholic. And a wife of someone who should have not gone there. Yes prison time. But not to be railroaded.

You know what - at least the Occults of Babylon had a god to give their human sacrifices to. Well....... I guess Death Row Inmates are the sacrifice to the
god-money-all-mighty-dollar.
