When 38-year-old Dalmacio Gordon Jr. finally leaves the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City—where he has spent 16 years of his life—one of the first things he’ll do is find the complainant who sent him to jail and say: Thank you. He will also be carrying with him his BS Commerce diploma and say: “I would not have finished college if you did not send me to jail.”


Gordon is one of the inmates at the prison’s Medium Security Compound who earned a degree from the University of Perpetual Help Delta System (UPHDS) Extension School operating inside the prison.
