When I visited my Fiance yesterday, (Which was awesome cause it was the first time I'd been able to see him since he went in earlier this year!!! :D) the guard told me that when the new buildings get done, they are going to have visitation be through webcams. We would be in one room and they another. While I feel this is good when it comes to "hearing" them better, I do not like that it takes the personal aspect out of it. We wont be able to physically sit in front of them glass or no glass. :\ (See, we dont have the privilege of all day visits or being able to sit in a room together, etc. We have glass. :()

Anyway...what do you guys think? Good or bad?

When my man was in county before he went to prison, we had web cam visits. I drove 2 hours to see him for 2 hours through a camera, but i HAD to se my man!!! It was nice to be able to see him but it was nothing like contact visits. Id rather sit and visit through glass then have to do the web cam visits ever again!!! It doesnt feel as real because he wasnt even in the same building i was. I hated it... I hope they dont change it to web cam visits with your man!!!

I had behind glass visits for years. Glass, webcam, to me it is all the same. What would be great is if you could do the webcam thing from home so you didn't have to travel 4 hours to sit behind glass. Now that would do it for me.

I would rather have him be right there in front of me, but I agree, if they do go to webcams, I would rather be able to do it from home than to drive out of my way to go see him through a webcam in another building. If he's going to be in another building anyway, then they should be able to make it to where we can use webcams from home.

Yes, I agree with you. I have had the webcam visits too. I drove 600 miles one way for 2 visits a week for 20 minutes each with a webcam. If that were all I could have I would still do it again. However, to have personal contact is really great. I would rather have less time and still have personal contact than to have more and it be with webcam.

I voted yes, only because Ithought the webcam would be from home. I have contact visits with my husband, but a webcam would be ideal for his ailing grandmother. She's too frail to make the trip to see him, but I could definitely go to her and set up a webcam!

We're not married yet, so we only get glass visits. I am 1,500 miles away, so I don't know that I would travel that far to look at a webcam. If I could do it from home, I would even pay for the priviledge..but I don't think I'd really want to travel for that. I can't touch him as it is now, but at least we are in the same room sitting in front of each other.

I agree. At least we are physically in front of each other. If they are going to make me travel up there for a webcam visit, we should be able to pay or something to do it from home. I totally agree.

he is in county now, he is allowed 4 visits a week. its via camera..and they allow 30 minutes. so it sucks in a way that you only get half an hour, but in my case its not to bad. i live about 25 min from the place. so right now i am going twice a month

I had 14 months of web cam visits. It is awful. You only get to see part of their face! Not even their whole face. The timer starts when he picks up the phone. If the guards bring them to wherever late, they do not give you the full 30 minutes.
I drove 6 hours each way for one 30 minute video visit. It was all that was allowed.
People are sitting next to you, behind you and in front of you. They hear every word you say. The video visits are also recorded!
After that we went to behind the glass which was 2 hours and much better because at least I could see HIM.

This is a horrible way to visit. Where my man was they were shackled to the chair and in hand cuffs so sometimes they could not hear because the cuffs were on too tight for him to hold the receiver. The entire 30 minute conversation is riddled with images of guards pacing back and forth like animals in a cage!

That is aweful! Give me glass in between us any day! :(
