My husband thinks he may be going to move to Cumberland. I'd be grateful for any information about the place that anyone can give, no matter how trivial. Does anyone know of a decent web-site with information.

Thanks

Anne

Hi.
my fiancee was in cumberland for a while. Its out western Maryland where its alot colder and they don't have good reception for the television, so this is one facility that has cable. He really enjoyed (?) his stay out there..

Before I can really share my experience with you, I first need to know if your husband is moving to the State prison or the FCI. You can email me at email address removed my moderator, please see PTO Rules/Policies. Contact this member via post or private messageand I can tell you all about the FCI, if that is where he is planning on transferring to. If its the State facility, well, I can't tell you anything and good luck!

Hi Anne!
JD has been at WCI a little over 4 years so if that's where your hubby is going, here's a little info. Visiting days are Fri-Mon (honor tier gets Thurs too) from 8:30-2. They usually let you stay at least 2 hours, depending on the crowd (I've found early Sat mornings to be the best). Visits are minimum contact (kiss & hug when you get there, and another when you leave). You can have your picture taken with him if he buys a "coupon", but be sure to face forward (no kiss or hug or they'll end the visit!). It's a fairly new prison, so everything is pretty clean. The guards aren't too bad - if you treat them decent, they'll be decent to you. Most people wear jeans and a t-shirt or sweater. No sweats, v-necks, and I wouldn't recommend any kind of dress(I've seen people turned away because the guards thought their clothes were too "clingy" so...). Be sure to bring your license and a quarter so you can lock everything up in the locker. Hope this helps. By the way, I visit JD every Saturday. If you live anywhere near Dundalk, you're welcome to ride along :) You can email me direct at email address deleted by moderator - please see PTO Rules/Policies, contact this member via post or private message
Take care and good luck!

pam mom,
I totally understand your fear!! If you are in fear for his life try contacting Mary Ann Saar with the div of corrections public safety to see if she can help you her number is (410)339-5004!! Also there is a prisoners rights assoc that he can write directly to for help if he has been threatened, they may be able to help get him moved, unfortunately the warden is no help at all in these situations he seems to rather enjoy this type of thing. I hate that place it's horrible! I will pray for you and your son I know what your are going thru!!! Lean on God he's all we have to get us thru this, our
only hope!!!
Praying for you and your son

Can anyone help? My husband has been in for a year and will be sentenced June 21, 2004. He's currently in Montgomery County Detention Center. Why I don't know. They have moved him from the Federal side to the County side and there is a possibility that they can move him to another facility all together and he hasn't been sentenced yet. Which doesn't make sense. He only gets an hour out a day, which normally is while I'm at work. So, I'll take lunch when I know he's going to be out and rush home to get his call. Which brings me to my next problem. Now I went through Private Lines for my phone but then we were told taht cutting out the long distance carrier and using Verizon would be better. Needless to say my bill went from $200/mo to $1000/mo. Nevermind the fact that they are doing deferred billilng on my bill. I tried to call AT&T and they are telling me that I have to have a MD physical address so they can set up the phone service or they can't do RCF. What am I to do now? I'll be happy when they move him to a place where he won't be moved again. If, that is at all possible. From what I see from reading other post it is possible they can keep moving him.

I believe you have found the federal forum and I believe your husband is being affected by the federal prison system???

Once he is sentenced, it can take a couple months to transfer out of the county. You never know what timeline the federal BOP will work on, and the federal marshalls will not be very helpful! It's a security issue to tell when an inmate will be moved.

Once he is in the federal system...your phone bill will not be that high!
At most...it should be around $180 (collect)a month considering they are allowed 300 minutes per month. If he chooses to call prepaid, and has money on his books...that same 300 minutes would only cost him about $70. per month! What a deal huh? lmao! It pays...to make sure they have money on their books for prepaid calls!

As far as how you have your lines set up...I'm not familiar with that. Try looking in the forum here about phones, we do have a sponsor who advertises discount prices. He may very well be able to help you out with the current phone situation! It wouldn't hurt to ask!

Once he reaches federal prisons...his phone calls will only last 15 minutes at a time. They usually also make them wait atleast 30 minutes...up to an hour inbetween each call. If he calls 15 minutes each time...he will have 20 calls a month! New time starts the 1st of every month no matter what!

OK...I'm rambling now! How atleast part of this helps!

Yes he is being affected by the federal prison system. Thank you for your help. All of this is really getting to me I just wish he could come home. This is costing me waaaaaayyyyyy tooooooo much. I have no job now so, it's going to be even harder. Thanks again. I will post my original ? in the phones and federal forum to see what people say.

Hi, I wanted to know if your moving to cumberland. I looked up a few web sites. If you still need the info I have it. I'm also thinking of moving there if my fiance is transfered there after he's sentencesd. I looked allegany county and got some things that way. One that I found is their newspaper online. Cumberland paper is Times-news.com. Another is the phonebook Yellowpagecity.com and you can also look up Allegany County Chamber of Commerce. For general onfo look up ci.cumberland.md.us/genifo. I found putting in Allegany county, MD on a search and got a lot of stuff. I hope it helps.
