I just rec'd a letter from Austin saying a support letter we had sent the last week of October had been placed in our son's file on January 12. He was voted (and approved for release) the week on January 8, the week before.

Maybe they had handled the letter earlier and just now got around to sending the acknowledgment, but who knows?? Anyway, we were covered since we had sent an earlier version of the letter in September, and rec'd acknowledgement. We had also sent a copy of the October letter to the Palestine board and rec'd a response from them within a couple of weeks.

It's probably a good idea too, to send a copy to the inmate prior to the ipo interview so they can turn it in at that time, and we had done that. In our case though, there were support letters from our county DA and an employer that were not available until after the interview. They addressed them to Austin and cc'd to Palestine.

His dad & I only sent the one in September and then the updated version in late October. I have no idea how many of his friends wrote, we had a steady stream of people asking who they could write and we gave them the address in Austin.

The one from the d.a. in our county was probably enough by itself - he wrote, among other things, that in his opinion our son does not and never has posed a threat to anyone and has served more-than-sufficient time.

I know, for a while, it seemed as though they stopped sending the acknowledgments. I got 2 for the first 2 letters I sent...but nothing after that....I figured they had stopped doing it for cost savings...seems I read something around here about either the non-existence or stopping of the acknowledgments.

I'm glad you covered your bases....this is why I say...you can never sent to too many people.....or too often....COVER YOUR BASES guys!!!
