Have any of your loved ones been released only to find out that they cannot live with you if you are on Section 8 or live in public housing? If so, is there a way around this?

My old man is doing time for 2nd degree assault and he will be getting out soon and we are both going crazy trying to figure out how he can come 'home'. Nobody was injured in the assault but despite that, he is now a violent offender who received a mandatory sentence because he pulled out his pocket knife. And yes, I've thought about it, but it would be impossible to 'sneak' him back home because he will be on house arrest for 3 to 6 months after his release from prison.

Does anybody have any ideas or knowledge about how to go about this? Would his caseworker be the one to talk to or his parole officer?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

i'd talk to both his case worker and his parole officer.i know where i'm at no one can be living with you if your on section 8 unless it's approved while applying for aid.they have to of been living with you from the start.they only seem too approve in some cases if it's your husband,no boyfriends.check with his caseworker if that doesn't get anywhere talk too his parole officer.perhaps he could help you out.goodluck.

I would suggest that you not risk losing your section 8 voucher or certificate and either don't let him live there or find another place where you both can establish rental history the right way. It NEVER is worth it to break the rules or try to find a way around them.

I am going through that same thing almost i get public housing and my husband has domestic violence on him and they said as soon as they found out he could not live here but then i talked to them again and they said to send him a new application the one to fill out when you add someone to your home and they can check exactly what happened and everything and maybe (cross your fingers) they can like put stipulations on him coming home like doing anger managment or something bevore he comes home
hope this helps if you find out anymore please let me know and feel free to pm me anytime

I have one in for Habitual Felonious Assault and Battery and I too live in public housing. I've spoken to the management and they said he'd have to submit an application and submit to a background check and then it would be the manager's final call. I'm wondering if it would make a difference if he were to submit to them his goal plan for aftercare, which would entail psycho-social education including anger management.
