The Corrections Department will build a "super max" prison equipped with a high-tech security system to house about 1,000 serious drug offenders.
Department chief Nathee Jitsawang said the department has been allocated 200 million baht (US$6 Million) this year to build a new high-tech super maximum security prison at the Khaobin Central Prison complex in Ratchaburi province.
More budget will be sought for the installation of high-tech security equipment, he said on the sidelines of a seminar yesterday on measures to prevent the use of mobile phones in the illicit drug trade in prisons.
The department is now in the process of calling a bid for the construction of the prison building, he said.
