My fiance has recently been transferred to Holman Prison.
Does anyone have a loved one there? We are currently in segregation. I have no idea on the actual conditions of this facility. I am in NW Alabama. I appreciate any comments.
Thank you, Anita

Hi Anita,
Anything you just ask, and if I can't answer your questions I will surely find the answers if at all possible.
Here are a few of the most wanted questions that I have came across in my years dealing with Holman.
As for the contitions of Holman its the Hell hole of Alabama, I have seen mice on the visiting yard, the guards can be ok when they wanna be. As for Seg, I have a cocky cousin that works that... Michael hates him. That part of the prison is only a year or so old, they only allow the guys out twice a week to take a shower and I think 45 minutes a week on the exercise yard which to me reminds me of dog kennels. You will see those when you visit. You can't miss'em.
Visiting
This has really been screwed up for the last year or so, The guys can visit twice a month once on saturday oncea month on Sunday. But if you send me his last name then I should be able to give you that information

Dress code:
nothing sleeveless at all, no jogging suits what so ever even the dressy ones, no shorts, and sometimes its according to what officer is on duty capri pants, so make sure you have another pair in the car just incase. Bra and panties must be worn, and if you wear a dress,,, a slip is a must, or they will not let you in. Shoes are no problem. Nothing real low and revailing.

What you can take in:
They allow a roll of quarters, one roll per adult. your car keys and your drivers licensen. I purchased a small clear cosmetic case from walmart for under $3.00 so I could already open my change and carry everything in. Leave and lock up your purse in your car you are not allowed to take them in. Children can not take anything in no toys no nothing.

The pat down.
Once you enter the building they will pat you down, make you shake out your bra and take off your shoes and socks if you are wearing socks, they do this even to the children. If you have a baby they allow one diaper, and one bottle. If it is that time of the month for you , they will allow you to take a tampon or pad I always took it in a small brown paper bag and you have to leave this outside the visiting yard.
Each and every time that you go to the snack machines or bathroom you will be patted down again.
Phones:
I believe they come on around 10 am and usually go off at 11. Sometimes they are left on the entire weekend, but I can't tell you that for sure since this new company took over in APRIL. They are horrible people to try to deal with. We are having a boy cott over the phones in October, so I urge you to please not accept any calls for that month. Send him some stamps now. :) If he ever goes to lock up he will only be able to make one call a month. As it stands with this new company, they will place a block on your phone if there are $25.00 worth of calls in a 24 hour period, for 24 hours. Another block if it reaches $50.00 in one week until their week is up. Another block if it reaches 150.00 in a month. You will spend hours on the phone trying to get this straightened out with them if you have any luck at all.

They will be allowed shoes in the month of OCt and they have to be all white , no color. They are receiving incentive boxes now, so if you need the list let me know. Also usually they can have a christmas box, but I haven't heard anything on this as of yet.

The warden there is a power freak, so be on your P's Q's . If an emergency happens I have always been able to call up there and leave a messages and Michael has been able to phone home, so that is a plus, but under this new warden I haven't had to do it. I always call and ask to speak to the captain. \
If you haven't been up there it is very easy to get to, its one turn off the interstate at the guard shack on the right. Don't know what direction you would be coming from but let me know and I will help. If you are coming from say north alabama you would get off the interestate to the right, Once your off turn right go about 2 miles and you will see the shack and a sign saying HOLMAN turn right there and you can't miss it.

If coming from Mobile you would get off the interstate to the left. At the stop sign turn left and go about two miles to you see the guard shack turn right and its there on your right.

If I haven't covered everything please let me know. As for the mail, you can send stamps in your letters, there is not as of today any total pages , pictures may be sent in. if sexual pictures, don't get wild and crazy. They can receive two books a week purchased from a book company... but as you know we all have secrets and I have one dealing with this, so let me know, its alot cheaper.Turst me on this one. But there is more than one way to skin a cat. :)
I am also gonna send you information what we have been doing around the state that you may want to be apart of, the guys has no voice and we are here for them. If you are from out of town and need a place to stay let me know, my home is always open. My guy is in 4cell , what about yours?

Sincerely
vicki

Wow Vicki - my husband isn't at Holman, but I wish I had met you a long time ago!

At Kilby and J. O. Davis during visiting if you wear anything solid white (top or bottom) then you will be turned away. I always carry a spare set of clothes, just in case.

Glad there are a few more here with Alabama ties!

Reading back through the posts (sorry, didn't read posts before the intrenet question)...but Ladydeath143..if you're still around (i notice this was an older post)...but I believe Kenny got married (to a very sweet girl I might add)...as well as transferred. He's no longer at Holman. A double blessing for him.
