Lewis Williams was executed yesterday. He fought the guards and begged for his life. "I'm not guilty, I'm not guilty, please God help me". His mother witnessed. It took seven guards to restrain him. For the first time the witnesses were allowed to see the whole execution process and Lewis never stopped begging for his life. This has made international attention and shows just how cruel and unusual this punishment is. What is worse is that Lewis Williams should have gotten a stay according to the last news. Look at this:

from today's (Jan 15) NYTimes

JUDGE CALLS VOTE ON EXECUTION IMPROPER

A decision by the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, in Cincinnati, to allow an execution was tainted by illegal voting, a judge on the court said. The judge, Eric L. Clay, wrote that a majority of active judges on the court had voted to stay the execution of the prisoner, Lewis Williams, 45, who was executed yesterday for the 1983 murder of Leoma Chmielewski, 76. But two semiretired judges, who are usually not allowed to participate in the full court, voted, changing the outcome, Judge Clay wrote. Adam Liptak (NYT)

I can't even begin to imagine what his mother is going thru, and this must surly make it worse. They can not bring the dead back, can they? I really hope this will make some changes.....

OMG what a terrible news! I'm so sad to hear about this. :(

You're so right, they can't apologize the corpse. I hope truth comes out and those who are responsible of this murder get to know it too. Rest in peace Mr. Williams and my prayers go also to his family.

I read an article somewhere online about his excution. They described every little move in detail and it was sickening. I can't believe the media would publish all those details. Very sad and my prayers go out to his family. Specially his mother who had to witness the whole thing.

I read an article somewhere online about his excution. They described every little move in detail and it was sickening. I can't believe the media would publish all those details.I read several articles describing it, too. :(

As horrifying as it was to read, I think it is important - however painful it is to his family and friends to read and re-live that experience - for everyone else to get a glimpse of what actually happens at an execution. Most people in the United States have NO idea. . . and truth be told, they don't want to know! You know, the "Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil" mindset. :(

I hope some eyes are opened as a result of this travesty.
