I cannot attend the meeting but is there anyway that I can get minutes or something so that I can provide input. I used to work for CDC and was involved in legal research with the inmates and I also attended numerous BPH hearings as a victim escort so I have first hand knowledge of what happens inside of the hearings that could benefit the group. Let me know anyway that I can help.
jessi_c 08-12-2009, 11:02 PM I wish I lived there so I could attend... I live in upstate New York where my husband is serving a 125 year life sentence. I just started a petition to get a sentence reduction for my husband and posted it the "becoming involved" forum under "prison activism" your names and support would mean alot! I am also in the process of sending out a series of letters to the Mayor, Governer, supreme court and appellate divisions, and ultimately if none of them will listen... the President... to deal with unfair sentencing like these life sentences they are handing out. I may be grasping at straws but I personally would rather grasp at straws then sit back and do nothing and let the system have my loved one....

For sure!!! One of the "Hot" topics is the BPH hearings and working on getting it to an even playing field with the inmates family being able to attend in support of parole as a victim and family are encouraged to attend for a denial. We are asking for any and all information to procedures and experiences. As I mentioned to someone else from our group my voice is kinda small and squeaky but I can make a whole lotta noise when it comes down to it! Your first hand knowledge is absolutely priceless I will absolutely send you notes, contact names/info and hope that you can fill in any blanks that we may have. Thanks again for the offer, it gets real exciting thinking about change for our loved ones behind bars. Now is absolutely the time to push hard on the state of CA to reform the screwed up "rehabilitation" dept. no more wasting money!

heavenlyflower2 08-13-2009, 05:47 PM I would be more than glad to share any and all info I take out of that meeting, especially dates/times of planned demonstrations. Our loved ones need us all out here fighting for them, my man always tells me I'm his eyes, ears, mouth, arms and legs out here and he is very grateful for the efforts of all involved in the fight for our lifers! Again, this is all just starting off so any and all ideas are appreciated. I will present all ideas that those unable to make it have to offer, once we get things rolling I'd love to see "us" take advantage of the waiting lines outside of the prisons to get the word spread!

i informed my husband about this and he got very excited. He wants to know if there is some sort of flyer or info that can be sent to him so that he can give it to the other lifers so that they can let their families about this. He said he mentioned it to a few guys and they were excited and wanted to let their families know so they could attend any future meetings. I will try to get to one also I just live so far away. Maybe after you see the different locations people are coming from if there are more in the riverside/palm springs area we could meet up as small groups that send reps to one larger unified meeting. just a thought. Don't forget about me though!!

interesting choice of words, love to see us! you know when the marsys law was getting ready to be voted on? i went to solano prison where my husband is incarcerated doing life with parole plus a 5 year enhancement. i was blown away how many visitors there did not want to sign the petitions i had against marsy's law because they were afraid to lose their visit for the day. there were a few i told that my husband and i figured it was worth 1 lost visit to try and squash marsy's law from going into effect. i'm really glad to meet someone that's not scared to stand up for what they believe in and hide behind others for them to do it!! thank you very much!! from myself and my husband.
