and

Either of these two groups can help you find whatever local resources they don't already offer

I suggest you call a local abuse shelter, counseling center, or even your church. Sometimes the Salvation Army, YMCA/YWCA or local mental health center also have support groups available. Oh yeah, one more. Sometimes Crime Victim's Services have leads to support groups.
Good luck girl. I have been through it also. Stay strong. If you need to talk click on my name and leave me a message, I'll be glad to listen.

I would suggest you visit the group Domestic Violence : Power of Being Free on the website, Cafe Mom. I did a search the day I got my computer and found that online group, my gosh, you talk about help me! Extremely supportive group of women and someone is always online for you to chat with. They can help you out no matter what stage you are in the process of going through concerning domestic violence. There are also lots of resources listed for all kinds of help.
This group here on prisontalk is helpful but a lot of women are searching for answers that just cant be given, many want help or hope that their abusers will change one day if just the right thing happens to wake them up. While I totally understand why people want their loved ones to change and be non abusive, it just rarely happens and only in cases where there is such a low level of abuse to begin with. Only 1 in 100 abusive people change. Most here, that I have seen, though not all, arent ready to accept what is going on and that it will continue. Nothing wrong with that really, I was like that myself for a few years but it creates a false sense of hope.

I hope you do visit the group on cafe mom, if nothing more than to just find out you arent alone and to educate yourself about domestic violence, any bit of knowledge you gain about it, is good for you. If you arent a mom, then borrow someone elses kid and saw they are yours. Its not right to be decietful, but in the case of DV, one has to get help in any way possible.
