Wackenhut Jail Guard Arrested In Drug Sting guard who works at a private jail in San Antonio faces federal charges after he was arrested in a police drug sting, KSAT 12 News reported Monday night in an exclusive report.
David Higginbotham, 40, was arrested recently as he walked into the Wackenhut Corrections Corporation, a privately owned parole violations facility on 218 S. Laredo St.
San Antonio police officials said Higginbotham agreed to transport heroin into the facility in exchange for cash. Police officials said an SAPD undercover detective last week gave Higginbotham 216 grams of heroin and $500 during a meeting in a parking lot off Interstate 10 and Loop 410.
"It's just unfortunate when these things happen,* Al Pacheco, Wackenhut Corrections Warden said.
People just lose their integrity. It can happen to anybody in this business and it's unfortunate. You do get individuals that find it so easy to do it ... for a small amount of money, to top it off.
San Antonio police officials said Higginbotham, who is out on bond, told them he wants to cooperate in the investigation.
The case was turned over to federal authorities who didn't want to comment on the arrest, saying the investigation was just beginning and more arrests may follow.
