Well today I made it up there for a rare weekday visit- always nice cause it's quiet- and it just so happened his counselor was available to do the premarriage interview! and he said, "I'm supposed to tell you-" and I said, "I know, I know. Attempted agg assault and reckless endangerment, plus they really don't like him." He said, yeah, I know, the sentence is absolutely ridiculous for nothing. I said, I know you probably hear this a lot, but this really was malicious. It's BS. He said he hopes the appeal goes well. He thought we must be childhood sweethearts, was amazed to hear that we met when I helped him surrender. We had a good little chat.
Meanwhile the guy has a ponytail longer than Eric's and Native American-oriented tats all over his arms.
And Eric started out talking to him the same way he talks to anyone he considers "them"- that's to say, totally baffling, has an answer for everything but not the answer they want- ok I admit my honey has a mouth problem, he's a born white-boy rapper- but between the tats (which E had not noticed before) and their discovery that they are both of part-German descent and the fact that the guy was so decent to ME, a little tiny connection started to bloom. And I can't help but think that's a good thing. Also, the counselor's last name is the same as my daughter's first name, and we all remarked on that.
To sum up, it just seemed like the guy saw that we were good folks- and that was heartening. I left with the feeling that I could count on him in an emergency. Given the situation, it felt like miracle enough.
And we're that much closer to being Mr. and Mrs!!!!YEEEHAH!:fb:
