Prison Health Care My name is Karen Russo. I'm the director of The Wrongful Death Institute--a multi-disciplinary Institute that specicalizes in death investigations, prison medical malpractice and negligence and forensic science issues. I've made the decision to join this group because we, at the Institute want to ensure that inmates and their families know of our existence. We are advocates for those incarcerated who are medically sick. Please visit our website at http:/www.wrongfuldeathinstitute.com for a detailed overview of what the Institute does. And please share our site with those whom you feel will benefit. In advance to all of you, my thanks.

Hello Karen
I looked around your website and it is fantastic the work you all do. Do you know of any groups such as yours that do this type of work for free? I have in the past needed this type of help for my son as the medical attention he and the other inmates at his institution receive is minimal. I have lots of moms at some of my support groups that would love to have this kind of help. Many are single moms and they do not have a lot of disposable income. Any information would be welcomed.
Thank you

Karen:
This is a great thing you are doing. Inmates in any State or Federal Prison system do not have the Medical Care they need.
We (The Families) of inmates in North Carolina must pay $10.00 for each visit the inmate makes to a doctor from anything from a cold to a serious situation. I don't know what they would charge if there was to be surgery or some major health care situation.
My son has had a very bad back for 12 years and has to sleep on a hard piece of wood. It is even almost imposible to get that piece of wood for him. He has a disentragrated disk in his back and really needs surgery. He will not have it because he has seen the hospital situations in this State and is afraid to have any surgery in the system.
You are a great person for doing this work.

Karen - were you ever able to help Jimmy Kinslow. I sent a bunch of stuff over to you on his behalf. He has now been moved back to Stateville, IL (previously he was in Menard, IL) but still isn't getting the medical care he needs and he is getting very sick.
Thanks
