:( Hi everyone It's Debi here from Va. I have a guestion I need help on. There have been quite a few times I have logged on to this site and it has logged me in but I keep getting the little pitcure next to each subject stating closed foreum and it also says I can not place any new threads. Right now I am using my computer at work and it is letting me post this but I have posted threads from my home computer but like I said lately it is not letting me do anything I'd appreciate any insite on this. Thanks Debi

Debi,
It may be that you are not in fact "logged in". You have the cookies on your home computer that automatically log you in but when you enter from work you are not. This has happened to me too.
Next time you enter PTO look to the top right and see if the site has you logged in. You may have to enter your user name and password in the top right boxes.
Hope this helps.
(Also, if you use the "Log Out" button it does dump all the cookies and you will have to log in again)

eu..that was a good advise, let us know if it works now
Wow I'am finally able to ask something. I have tried numerous times to post threads and it still won't let me. I have logged in each time and it tells me thank you for logging in but it still says I can not post new threads or replies. It also tells me that my html is off my vb code is off. The only thing reading that is on is my smilies. I have tried changing my security settings and I still can't get on. I am not understanding why my work computer will let me in but my home one will not. When I first came on to this site I was able to post threads. Can anyone tell me something I may be doing wrong. Thanks again. debi
Sounds to me like a security setting on your home computer is preventing code from running properly. it's hard to know the exact problem without seeing these settings, so I'll give you a few things you can look for. I'm not sure what web browser you're using, but most people using Netscape or Internet Explorer. These directions will work for Internet Explorer, but there should be similiar commands in Netscape--just that I don't use it. :)
Ok at the top of your browser, click the Tools menu and then click Internet Options. Click the Security Tab and make sure you're security level for the Internet is set no higher than medium. There should be a button on that display box that says "custom level" and "default level". If your setting has changed for some reason, the "default level" button will be pressable... that will restore your browser to original settings. If you can't press the default button, that's okay too, it means your settings are at their original setting. [
The other thing you might want to check while you have that tools/internet options window up, there's a tab at the top that reads "Advanced". Click on that and do the same thing, see if that "restore default" button is clickable. If it is not, that means [someone] has changed the settings, this could prevent you from loggin in because this is where alot of the code security settings lie...ie. what scripts you allow to run on your machine. Set that at default too--if you can.
You might want to clear the PTO cookie on your machine also...get a new one once you've reset your browser settings. To do this, click the tools menu at the top, then click internet options. On the General Tab that pops up, where it says Temporary Internet Files, click the delete files button. Click the Settings button beside it, then click View Files. Scroll thru the cookies you have to find the PTO cookie, should read 'yourname@www.prisontalk' Right click on that cookie and delete it...close the window and exit the menu and you're done.
Whoa, that was long winded, sorry... don't know if it'll work, but that's the first thing I'd check if I were in your shoes...and I hope you have big feet cause I hate little shoes. :)
all the best

Why cant I get into live chat? Is is always a gray box?
Sherry
I'm not sure sherryu, normally I would tell you that it's a java based chat... make sure your internet security settings are set no higher than 'medium'. Go up toTools on your Internet Browser, and click on Internet Options. Click the Security Tab at the top of the window that opens, and make sure it says "medium" there. That will allow Java scripts to run and load the chat for you.
I say normally because I just went and tried to get into chat after reading your message and I couldn't get in either. I got a 'class not found' java error, so maybe it's a problem with the chat itself and not your computer. The big man will probably be around to have a look and see if all is working well.

I am a Regisered Member. My user name is grammyk. When I try to get into the Help menu, I am asked for my user name and password. I do not remember ever being asked to supply a password. So, I check "forgot password" and it is suppose to be sent to me. Then, up pops a message that states my user name is not recognized. This is driving me nuts! Am I Registered under grammyk as it shows on all of my posts, or not? Also, how do I subscribe to new threads I would like to have an e-mail notification of when a new post is made? There are several I have subscribed to and was getting notification via e-mail before all these changes took place. I am not getting them any more. Please help me get this straightened out.
Thanks.
