I'm being sent to FMC Rochester next week due to bein handicapped, BUT, I was (fortunately) court ordered to RDAP. Now, according to the lists of RDAP facilities, FMC Rochester isn't one of them, but i called the prison, and they said they do in fact have that program, BUT, they "send those guys to Sandstone". SO....whats Sandstone like? It appears to be a low, but beyond that I don't know anything but what the bop sites says.

Anyone got any more detailed info? Anyone been there?

Even with your "court order to Rdap" you have to apply and be accepted to the program. assuming you are accepted, you will have to get an acceptance/transfer to a facility that has rdap. I know that CJJACK went through this.

Mr.2sandwiches

Understood. So if i'm accepted, will I likely be sent to Sandstone? What if they can't meet my accessibility needs?

I got 27 months. I read somewhere on here that is the min. amount of time you must have? to be accepted into the program or something? Of course there would be other criteria but i'm just trying to figure out if I'm gonna get this RDAP program, and if so, where will I go...and since FMC Rochester sends 'those guys' to Sandstone...my original question is whats it like there?

Beau486 - do a search on "Sandstone" - there are several informative posts on the Sandstone facility (you kind of have to sift through a couple of pages of search results, but you will recognize the useful entries).

I read a few of the posts and Sandstone doesn't sound too bad.

Good Luck.

My loved one was transferred from Englewood Co to Sandstone and I would like to suprise him with a visit. Anyone know the easiest way to get there? I live in Wy and I cannot figure out which airport would be best or if I should just drive. Thanks in advance any help would be appreciated.

Well I am sure he will be excited about the visit......The airport would be the Minneapolis/St paul air port and then you would drive to Sandstone from their........it is about and hour and half drive from st paul not to bad......So did he recently get transfered and why did they transfer them?? I am asking cause my man is in Waseca and they are transfering all of them from their and they are supposse to be going to Englewood but we will see how that goes.....So I was just wondering, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask :) Good luck on your visit

He was transferred from Englewood FCI because that is a Medium and I guess The FCI in Sandstone is a low. He had to move because he did not qualify as enough of a risk to be in a Medium anymore. I assume since Waseca is a low(if I have my info right) that your honey must be going to the Englewood Camp. The Camp is at the same place as the FCI and FDC but it looks very nice and I have spoken to people waiting to visit there while I was waiting that it is very nice. Almost all the staff i encountered @ Englewood were very nice and made the whole initial trauma of visiting for thie first few times manageable. I also called there a few times with concerns. they are understanding of that too. My ex's mother died while he was in Englewood the staff took very good care during that trying time. I am fairly familiar with Englewood so any questions just ask:D

Englewood is being transferred to a low because Waseca is being transferred to a women's facility. To me, it doesn't make any sense to move your man farther away from Englewood to Sandstone when they are moving men from Waseca to Englewood when Sandstond would be closer. But I guess that is the BOP for ya! They wouldn't want to do something that made it easy for us, huh?

Has anyone visited at FCI sandstone? What is it like? At Englewood the visiting is in a big room with soda machines and food machines and stuff. How about the staff? I am hoping the staff is nice. Any insight to the conditions for visiting would be helpful and maybe ease some of my anxiety. Thanks in advance

My dear husband is there. We are about 10 hours away in Nebraska (although we used to live in MN and have family and friends in the area). We visited for the first time last month (he has been there since November). He seems to have settled in. This is his first BOP experience but after 10+ months of county jails, it's a step up.

My dear husband is at FCI Sandstone. We visited for the first time in January. I have nothing else to compare to, but I'm happy to share our experience. I went with my 2 teens and my grown daughter. It was very easy to find. Take the Sandstone exit off of I-35 and follow the signs. Parking is a bit of a walk to the entrance, once there, you go in, fill out the paperwork (have your man's #, your ID and your car info), show your ID, check your stuff into a locker, go thru the metal detector, have your hand stamped and you get in. The staff all seemed respectful and kind. There was 1 CO who seemed a little zealous, but for the most part, everyone showed respect and kindness. Once in, they showed you where to sit (plastic chairs with a "coffee" table), and then it takes a bit for them to bring your man in. There are vending machines....pop, coffee, snacks and sandwiches, hot pockets, etc., They also have cards and games that you can check out. There was a kids room over to one side but I never went over there to check it out. All in all, I found the experience to be positive. We visited on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday which made our 500+ mile trip seem worth it. We are going back in April and we are counting the days. Please let me know if I can answer specific questions.

What else do they have here? Work or education wise? Any word on when they will be getting Trulincs for email purposes? Supposedly all prisons will be set up with Trulincs by 2011. One would think that the low security level prisons would be first on the bandwagon. I'm researching for a dear friend, any and all help appreciated.
Thanks!!

Sandstone is dorm/cubicle living. The showers are a 'little' more private than say Leavenworth. The inmates wear tan-colored shirts and slacks (no jumpsuits!) during the week. They can buy sweatsuits from commissary which they can wear on weekends. They do their own laundry. From the way he talks everything is pretty low key there.

They have jobs. My boyfriend, who has done general contractor work on the outside, just got hired for building maintenance, etc. I think he'll be making a whopping 12 cents an hour or some stupid pittance. There's other jobs there too, including UNICOR (which pays alot better). UNICOR has a printing industry and a glove-making industry there. It takes awhile (a year or so?) to get into a UNICOR job unless you've worked for them before at another facility.

The food's not bad from what he reports. And they get plenty. Of course there's food items they can buy from commissary, but they are a little over priced.

There's a small library. There's a variety of religious services.

There are classes called ACE (adult continuing education). There's a wide range of topics they cover. They last about an hour a couple times a week (in the evening?). I think they also have classes regarding life skills such as money management, etc. They do offer classes to become an electrician, and I'm not sure what else. He's also mentioned they have a welding shop, so maybe? welding classes.

They do not have Trulincs yet and I have not heard when.

That's about all I can think of for now. Hope it helps.

Thanks Again Wildrose!! A lot of what you mentioned above I learned through an inside source and shared that in a previous thread. I was not aware about the electrical classes nor the types of UNICOR jobs available. You have helped a lot !!

My son has been up in Sandstone for over a year now. I did visit him last year and am due to visiti him again in the next month or so. I'm here in Texas but he didn't want to stay in any prisons in Texas. He was shipped out from Beaumont Med (after the hurricane) to Leavenworth and then he had to be moved to a low and chose Sandstone. He does like it up there. He went through one of the welding classes and works in the welding office and makes pennies also!! My son does take alot of college correspondance classes so he does stay busy with studying, work, weight lifting, jogging, etc.

This past few weeks though they have had a few lockdowns because of a few fist fights and he said Sandstone is not used to any type of fights so they lock 'em down!! :D

FROGsgrace
03-25-2009, 01:38 AM
Thanks TxYellowRose, my friend is heading to Sandstone and maybe the lock down is what caused his delay...after he was sentenced he was flown to Oklahoma Transfer...from there a brief stay at Terre Haute and then on to Oxford, WI. He was at TH for less than a week...none of the family heard anything via phone since he was in OK...we've been keeping track of him through the prison locator. I am surprised about the fighting at Sandstone because from what I've learned it's pretty good in that reguard. I feel like I'm in limbo now. I'm sure that one of the letters I sent will probably be coming back Return to Sender and not knowing if my friend will be shipped off shortly I'm hesitant to write him at Oxford. Have you ever had the experience of having a prison forward a letter? I've heard that some do and I know that some don't. LOL, I guess it's the luck of the draw. Anyway thanks for giving me a heads up, I'll pass it on to the family. Enjoy your visit with your son.
Blessings to you and yours,
FROGsgrace

My son said fighting is not the norm at Sandstone (nothing like beaumont!! LOL) and these are just a few little squabbles between a couple guys. Nothing serious but since the guards are not used to any type of fighting they are paranoid that it might lead to something worse. My son said it's very low key and relaxing. You don't have to keep watching your back. Sometimes the transfer does take longer than it should!! I've watched several of my sons buddies transfers over there and it has taken weeks! Hopefully, the letter will be sent on to the final destination but count your blessings if it is!!
Do you live close to Sandstone? If you are from out of the area and need someplace to stay the casino is Hinkley is the nicest and least expensive and closest. It is a long ways from St Paul / Minneapolis but the drive is nice!!

Have a great day!

Question...I'm pretty new to PTO and there is a group option that I noticed in my profile, however I haven't been able to locate any groups on this site. It's probably staring me in the face and I just don't see it. How do I learn about what groups there are? Is there a group for the loved ones of those in Sandstone? If so then please tell me how to access it. Thanks in advance.
Sincerely, FROGsgrace :)

I think this IS the FCI Sandstone "group." For some reason, a few BOP prisons have their own section here and then the rest have to make do with individual threads in this section of "Other Federal Prisons." Moderator: It might be good to at least have these "other federal prison" threads under general sections like "Other Camps" "Other FCI Lows" "Other FCI Highs" and "Other USPs." Maybe even one of each for male and for female institutions. It would be quicker to navigate. Z.

FROGsgrace
03-25-2009, 08:53 PM
Thank you Zelda50, LOL, I wasn't blind or going mad. There are numerous threads concerning Sandstone...this one concerning Sandstone visiting....Your idea to the moderator is a great one....If they don't do that then perhaps we could start a new thread for Friends & Family of Sandstone....I learned on another thread that Sandstone has had a couple of lockdowns recently over fist fights...given what I have heard lockdowns are unusual for this facility. I'm new to this and don't have a clue as to how one learns when there is a lockdown. Starting a Sandstone group page would help in sharing this type of information with those it concerns.
Blessings to you and yours !!

When I go up to see my boyfriend at Sandstone, I stay at the little motel right there in town (Sandstone). It's an older "style" with 12 rooms. But it's VERY clean and VERY WELL maintained!!!! Each room has a little frig, a microwave, coffee maker (with coffee!), cable TV & wifi connection. It's about $55 a night. Well worth it to me. Sandstone is a pretty small community, but there is a large grocery store and two restaurants just a couple blocks from the motel.

I read your post, Frogsgrace, about a separate tab for us that have loved ones at Sandstone. For now we could all add each other to our friends list and keep in touch that way. I'm not sure how to get our own tab for Sandstone. Ask Zelda?

I recently sent a message to one of the site administrators about creating a tab for Sandstone. It's in the works to have a tab for each prison...however everything takes time.
In the meantime, we'll have to keep watch for new people posting to "old" Sandstone posts. I'm not sure how else to do it for now. Maybe once a month we could do a "checking in on Sandstone" thread so we can all keep up. Any other ideas out there?

I was giving the heads up by a luietennet so my info is more then likely accurate. I was also told that other new rules will be inforced as well but they wouldnt be posted until they had it revised by the warden. i dont have a date in which this will be enforced but i would call your loved ones prison and ask one of the c.o's or dont wear an underwire bra!.. because u wont be able to visit your loved one.. just FYI..

where my husband is at they said as long as the metal detector did not go off we are still allowed to wear the underwire bras, we were just told that starting soon they would not let you in if it sat off the detector, it is very hard to find a 38 dd without a wire.

Just saying Hi to everyone who has a loved one at Sandstone...I came across this thread when doing a search for information on Sandstone to pass on to my boyfriend. I will hopefully be going to visit him sometime in the near future but it won't be near as often as I'd like seeing how it's too far to drive and with the price of air fare and lodging etc.. for myself and our daughter we won't be able to go see him very often.

Anyway, I'll be keeping my eye out for anything new on Sandstone and thanks for starting this thread!!!

My man is at FCI Sandstone for almost 1 year now and has another year until he comes to the HWH. He tells me that the facility there is pretty good. Not hardcore or anything like that. Hi,
I have a friend who is incarcerated and needs some info for a legal matter. Is Maureen Cruz the warden at Sandstone FCI? If not does anyone know where she is?
Is Herman Quay still asst. warden at Englewood? Does anyone know that name of the dentist at Englewood? he thinks his last name is Burnell. Appreciate any help I can get.:)

Sandstone is a fairly small town. Greyhound does make a stop there at one of the gas stations on the southwest corner of town. The prison is a few miles east of town (about 2 east and a couple south). I've never checked my odometer to get the exact miles. I think there is a taxi service in town. There is a motel in Sandstone also. It's the 61 Motel on the north edge of town. Very reasonable rates. If you'd like any other info, let me know.

Hi all! I am hoping someone can help me! My husband is in Chicago right now waiting to be transferred to Sandstone. He is on the last year of a 12 year sentence :) We have so many questions about this place! We have no idea why he was sent so far away from us for RDAP when there are so many other facilities that are closer to us out west...
Anyways, does anyone know if people are getting in to RDAP in time to get their full year off? Does anyone know when the next program is starting? Is there email there?
Any information on Sandstone would really help me out! I appreciate it!

wildrose712
11-17-2009, 07:53 PM
No one gets a full year off for RDAP. BOP says you can get UP TO a year off, not that you will get the whole year. Most are only getting 6 months off. I don't know much about the RDAP program itself. Nor do I know if it starts at any particular date or if it's on-going as old people go and new people join.

They DO NOT have email at Sandstone yet. No idea when it will get there either.

If you have any specific questions about Sandstone, PM me. There's been a couple Sandstone threads on this site where there's been alot of questions answered. If I can be of any assistance, let me know.

I hear there are cameras in the units, I don't believe that but in the BOP alot is possible. I did time so I know. The drug program is like a box of cracker jacks, you don't know what you're going to get. I've seen people go through the program and get nothing with a recomendation from the court.

I have a few questions regarding inmates at Sandstone, MN. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

1. Is there a limit on the number of telephone calls that an inmate can make per month?

2. If a inmate has money in his account can he place money on a phone card at the facility to make telephone calls?

3. Is there a limit on the number of letters that an inmate can send out per month?

4. Is there a limit on the amount of money that an inmate can spend on commissary per month?

I have a few questions regarding inmates at Sandstone, MN. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

1. Is there a limit on the number of telephone calls that an inmate can make per month? There is a 300 minute limit each month. The month does not necessarily start on the 1st of the month. You will have to ask him what date of the month his minutes renew.

2. If a inmate has money in his account can he place money on a phone card at the facility to make telephone calls? Yes I believe so.

3. Is there a limit on the number of letters that an inmate can send out per month? No, not as long as he has stamps.

4. Is there a limit on the amount of money that an inmate can spend on commissary per month? There is but I do not know what the limit is.

Minutes are 300 per month, there is a formula for what day it falls on I think you time the 4th and 5th number of his id number then add the last number and that is your date. like 21224001 so it would be 2X4=8+1=9, so the 9th day of every month would be when the minutes start over. Pretty sure that's right.

You do get 400 minutes per month in November and December, but 300 every other month of the year.

I think they can spend $300 a month on commissary items, clothing, foods, etc. and then an additional $70 on phone which equals up to the 300 minutes. That's just a prepaid thing you just have to hit 5 to accept the call and it won't affect you in anyway.

Any amount of letters is fine also I'm sure.

Good Luck!

go to the (bop) website and for the discount phone service go to >> all one word (cons call home)< all one word

yes they get 300 mins per month to call home.. and the calls are 15 mins a piece..

no limit on mail dont know about the limit on funds on there accts

the calls are expensive so you might wanna get an acct wit cons call home.. its like $25.55 a month there calls will go from $4.00 and some change down to like .90 cents per call..

Hope this helps.

No - you might want to second think the advice above to use Conscall home - inmates are getting in trouble for using that service because it's considered "call forwarding." The cheapest phone calls are for your inmate to call a local number - you can get a cell phone line with a number and prefix that are local to the prison and then it's a local call. Browse around the telephone section of this forum and you'll learn a lot.

The inmate puts money from his commissary account to his phone account by getting on the phone and putting in his pin number and transferring the money. Least expensive way to send money to his commissary account is to get a post office money order and mail it to the Lockbox address in Iowa, which is on the BOP website: www.bop.gov. Also, at that site, you can find Sandstone under the Facility Locator and there will be a section at the side with visiting regulations for that facility, etc.

Hang in there - it'll all become clear to you after a while. It can be confusing at first. Z.

In the process of researching prisons to find out where my boyfriend should put in for a transfer to. Sandstone is one of the closest. I had questions about the RDAP program though. He has a seven year sentence, which makes him eligible for 12 months off for completing RDAP. Is the 12 months just a recommendation? Can prisons give less then the 12 months off, and if so, does anyone have any experience with the RDAP at Sandstone and have an idea of how much time inmates usually get off for completing the program?

wildrose712
04-10-2010, 05:03 AM
I believe most inmates are only getting about 6 months off their sentence for doing RDAP. No one knows why they don't get the whole 12 months besides the fact that's just another symptom of how messed up the "system" is.

I recall my man telling me that Sandstone only give you up to 9 months for RDAP. and that was the reason he put in for a transfer to the FCC in Duluth the prison camp there gives them there full 12 months for RDAP. My man has one thing holding him up and that is he has a saftey violation on his record that needs to drop off before they can transfer him down the road cause its only like 60 miles from Sandstone. Anyways hope this helps.. you can always look on the BOP website or call them and they will give you whatever info your looking for. just FYI..

HELLO.. my man is in FCI Sandstone.. he's been there for about 2yrs now and will soon be transfering out to the FCC down the road about 60 miles to FCC Duluth.. Federal prison camp... there you can go outside and everything i hear.. Okay so you wanna know about Sandstone.. its really nothing bad about the place other then our loved ones are there.. The guards have always been descent to me when i go, i've never had a run in or problem with any of them.. the rec is good and the food is alright.. they dont have corrilinks yet but my man said that they are remodeling the room now to put the computers in.. so that's a plus.. umm what else.. the room is a good size visiting rm there.. of course we can sit next to them unlike alot of the other fci prisons and the vending is alright. you cannot go outside at this prison.. its all inside. When you go to Sandstone there is ONLY one lil bitty motel.. its called Motel 61.. its just for sleeping and showering its not for anything other then that.. its just a cheap room wit two beds and a t.v. There is one resturant in town and i cant remember the name of it but they have pretty good food there and they are open for breakfast early, lunch and diner of course. If you are looking for a McDonalds or a Burger King you have to venture out to the town called Hinckley its about 8-10 miles away from Sandstone there you will find casino's and better hotels.. i've stayed there before.. the people are very nice and treat you well... I would if your going for the first time take a GPS.. if your car doesnt have one already. its sort of tricky going threw St.paul's traffic.. it depends on what time of day or night your driving.. I hope this helps you.. if you need to ask me anything further you can leave me a message on my page or in private message.. GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here has someone thats in the SandStone, MN FCI Prison and if so, What are they like in there? My brother is looking to request a move to that facility soon and was wondering if they're pretty good in there? Just little info would be great, like any known fights or are they pretty laid back and so forth. Hope to hear from anyone of you so I can let my brother know the info about that prison. Thanks Much :)
I was in Sandstone FCI for 1 year completing my 4 year sentece, if your brother is in Unicor, there shouldn't be much of a wait to get in, if not, it's a 2 year wait. Food is excellant there. Not many fights, maybe one a month. No stabbings or anything like that, just fist fights. It's pretty laid back there, lots to do. It has about 1200 inmates, 10 min. moves, they were putting in e-mails when I left in May 2010. There's a ASC cert. program for anybody that wants to learn about auto repair and a carpender program. Unicor makes fire fighting gloves and has a print shop. Barracks are not air conditioned unless you get lucky enough to get in the one barracks that does have it. There are 4 units in that barracks that hold 120 inmates in each unit. Winters can be cold, summers are like springtime anywhere else. I came from Elkton OH FCI, and it was a lot nicer. I think your brother would like it there.

Yes.. he was sent from Columbia, SC and they flew him Con Air from GA to Oklahoma, then Wisconsin, and then he arrived in Minnesota. Yes he is exactly 1020 miles away from me and it hurts bad.... Plane tickets ar ridiculous and driving it will be like 20 hours for me. So hopefully he will be transferred in 16 months back to SC. But im quite sure i will fly up there by September....

Hi I'm new here. I'm non-citizen and came to US legally my Visa will end in 2013.My case is under investigation by ICE and I'm now in process of plea bargain.

After read through many thread here in PTO I found many useful information. I'm currently under investigation and may go to prison so I try to fine the information about federal prison near where I live. I only found 3 which are Duluth, Sandstone and Rochester but I'm not sure if I will qualify for Duluth and Rochester because I'm not US citizen. I have some questions about Sandstone.

- Are there any immigrant inmates there?

- I found that Sandstone is Low but I still worry about my safety because I heard that in prison divide by race I'm not sure how to fit in there because I'm Asian. Is there any thing I should worry if I have to get in there?

I try to read all Sandstone information but I can't find the answer I'm looking for.

Thank you :)

Hi etnpto,

I can help answer any questions you have :) My brother is currently there at SandStone, MN prison and it will be 1 year at the end of this month that hes been there. I have asked him the question of your concern and he said you have nothing to worry about. No one is divided up into races and there are a small group of Asian guys there. Everything is very laid back there and says that everyone does their best to behave because all they can think about is getting out the sooner the better. So far he loves it there and does not regret his transfer to MN from Oakdale, LA. Hope this info helps and if you have any other questions I will do my best to answer them :)

Hi Tinkerbell73,

Thank you so much for your information. That's kind of a relief for me. How long does your brother has to be there? It will be a long road for me until the date come. Actually I'm still under investigation not even reach plea agreement yet but I need to be prepared :p because there's almost 100% chance that I will be deported after finish my sentence. Honestly I will missed American peoples around me, they're so nice and I hope I can welcome American who travel to my country as best as I get from here.

Anyway I will keep you posted about the situation.

They get a new list every month. It's one sheet, front and back. Most of it stays about the same...clothing, toiletries, food, personal items like a watch, alarm clock, picture frames, etc. Holiday time they add "special' food items.
Can you be more specific in what you are interested in regarding commissary?

About the only vocational tech classes at Sandstone are culinary arts, auto, building trades, and welding. But...for people that work in the electrical facilities, there is a self-study program for electrical apprentice. My boyfriend doesn't know if anyone has done that or not. They had the books for that program and he's sure they still do.

I was really hoping he could get an electrician's degree there but I will tell him to ask around about working for the electrical facilities so he can study to become an apprentice. I appreciate your input! (for some reason I didn't get an alert you replied to my post?!?...I'm glad I decided to look and see if anyone replied to me!)

Thanks! That's lame they have designated bathroom times! Poor guys! My man's not going to like that news one bit! It will prob get more strict with the visits anytime now. Last week someone got busted with marijuana so they put the unit on lockdown and drug tested everyone. I imagine they'll conclude it was brought in during visits =( I hope they don't get more restrictive. One person can ruin it for everyone!

Sorry no one responds, I haven't been getting any of your posts and I THOUGHT I am signed up to get all the posts? Maybe I need to do something different to get all the Sandstone posts? I'm not the most computer savvy gal lol. My BF has been at Sandstone for a couple weeks now. He likes it A LOT better than Leavenworth, KS. The food, the weights, the pool table lol. It's the little things that mean so much. I'm glad he is happier there! Hope you're doing okay! It's hard to be separated like this I know.:(
This is about the only Sandstone thread there is on this site until the site administrators build a specific tab for Sandstone.
To reset your email alerts, the easiest way to do that is to click 'Reply' in the bottom right corner of someone's post; scroll down from 'Reply to Thread' and the next section is called 'Additional Options'. At the bottom of that section is an area called 'Thread Subscription' with Notification Type below that. Click the drop down list to how you want to be notified for postings to this thread.
Regarding set bathroom times for the guys...it's usually at about the top of every hour as long as the guards aren't busy escorting people in or out.
Things really changed and got tougher a couple years ago when they got a new warden. And yes, 'rules' during visiting are always a little different depending on who's on duty that weekend.
Glad he's doing well there.

Wow yeah its always because of one person that they punish them all last year of early this year was when they changed the visiting rules and im sure they will just continue on getting stricter and stricter.. And it ruins it for everyone else.

Wildrose712~ Thanks for the instructions! I'm glad to hear bathroom breaks are at the top of the hour. He seems to need to use the restroom several times during a visit lol. I'm going for a visit mid month I'm NERVOUS lol. I hope the pants I picked out aren't too tight  they are tasteful but they are skinny jeans. I wear them with boots. Dumb question...If I have a BAD hair day can I wear a hat to the visit or are hats a no no? THANK YOU!

Where did you stay? I'm thinking of staying at America's Best Value In in FINLAYSON (not the one in Hinkley) as I hear its reasonably priced but not a dive. Any suggestions on a nice place but that won't break the bank?
I hope you had a good visit! My BF had a hard time sitting so long when he was at Leavenworth (Its been a YEAR & 3mos since I've seen him!) I'm sure he'll do it anyway though as I rarely get to see him :( Were the guards nice to you? What did you wear if you don't mind me asking. I want to wear some new skinny jeans I just got that fit me nice, I think they look tasteful but I don't want to get booted! Did you get your whole visit time with him or were there too many visitors for you to get from 8:30-3:30 with him? THANKS!

Alot of times I stay at the Grand Northern Inn in Hinckley. It's a really nice place with an indoor pool and hot tub and continental breakfast. And in the non-tourist season it's incredibly inexpensive. Last year a couple times I got a single room for around $50 or less, depending on what time of year and what's going on at the casino.

I've been going up there for almost 4 years now. For the most part all the guards I've come in contact with have been decent.
There's been times I've been a bit shocked at what some of the women wear and are allowed in. So I wouldn't worry about your skinny jeans. Just make sure your top isn't too low cut. They do talk to you about that.
I've been up there on holiday weekends when the visiting room has been REALLY full. But I've never seen anyone asked to leave to make room for others. I try to avoid weekends around the Christmas season, so it might be different then.

I'm glad the guards are decent! lol, yeah even at Leavenworth...where it is very strict (one gal almost didn't get let in for wearing a white t-shirt that covered everything) other gals got away with wearing spandex! So you never know. These jeans are very tasteful they just fit me like a glove. I plan to wear a long shirt and jacket over that (no cleavage of course) I try not to dress like that these days anyway. Thanks for reassuring me I don't want to get booted if my jeans fit me lol... That good you haven't seen anyone asked to leave! After not seeing him for over a yr and driving 14 hrs etc. I might cry if I'm asked to leave lol.

You can go to their webpage (www.grandcasinomn.com/grand-casino-hinckley/where-to-stay/grand-northern-inn.aspx (http://www.grandcasinomn.com/grand-casino-hinckley/where-to-stay/grand-northern-inn.aspx)) and click on Book a Room.
It will take you to a calendar where it will give you the room rates right on the calendar. It's a great tool for planning your trip.

If you wear a jacket, be sure it's something you won't get too hot in. Some of the guards don't let you take your jacket/sweater off, especially if you're going to hang it on the back of your chair.
If they would need to ask anyone to leave, it would be people who are more 'local' than you are so don't worry about that.
Also, take a variety of quarters and one dollar bills for the vending machines. :taz: Sometimes the change machine doesn't work. Sometimes the vending machines will only take quarters. Sometimes the vending machines only take dollars. Sometimes the vending machines aren't refilled throughout the weekend and there's not much to eat or drink . The coffee machine has been broke for about a year. :coffee:There is a water fountain in the visiting room though and so far that's always been functional .
If you think of anything else you may be concerned about, let me know....

I'm glad the visits aren't cut short! I hope the visiting room isn't super hot lol cause one of my outfits requires a jacket. It is a very thin jacked though so we shall see! Thanks for your input. Hopefully I will like Grand Northern Inn! I try to eat healthy so I also hope I can find a restaurant that is not all carbs and fried foods. I love those foods but they don't love me lol.

If you wear an underwire you'll set off the metal detector. They will hand-wand you, but that takes longer of course. For the people in line behind you it can be frustrating. On weekends you have to be processed in by 9:30. If you're not, you have to leave the property till 10:30 because there's a prisoner count at 10:00 I believe. Wear shoes that will be easy to get on and off too. Lots of times shoes will either set off the metal detector and/or you have to send them through xray. You'd be surprised how much time is wasted in processing because of clothing issues. For people waiting to get processed so they don't loose an hour or more of visiting time...we all have to remember that hour is as very precious to them as it is for us.

Been there lots of times! I used to stay at the Sandstone 61 motel. It's very affordable. We're talking under forty bucks some times! There's a little restaurant right near there too, and the motel is right at the end of the road you use to drive to the prison. The visiting room is never over packed. I've never had to shorten a visit for space. The room is kinda cold and dingy but the CO's are pleasant.

This is a Sandstone thread! If you are all refering to a sub forum for Sandstone, that will be coming down the road. In the meantime just post your questions or info about Sandstone in this forum. (Other Federal Prisons)

My brother has two years of the draconian sentence for having cp on his computer. He has been at Oakdale FCI but was told this week that he will be transferred to FCI Sandstone. Knowing the BOP, I will believe it when he is there. Anyway, I would like information on any educational opportunities available at this facility. Thanks.
