INTERMOUNTAIN CONSERVATION CAMP

http://www.intermountaincamp.com/images/aerial.jpg

Intermountain Camp is operated by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and is one of 39 conservation camps statewide. However, we feel that Intermountain Camp is unique. The camp is located east of Redding, outside the community of Bieber in Lassen County. It sits on a beautiful site, nestled in the pines at the base of Big Valley Mountain. Intermountain Camp is an excellent resource for the local community and the state in emergency response and conservation work. The camp also provides quality metal fabrication products to State of California agencies. We are proud of who we are as a camp and the Department we represent. So, take a moment to browse our site and see what we offer California.

Since all Fire Camps are still under the jurisdiction of the CDCR, they still follow the bulk of the rules for visiting and family visits established by the CDCR. However dress codes in some camps may be more relaxed then other institutions. Below are 2 links with specific information. Please note some camps will allow home cooked meals and some only allow store bought foods for regular visits. For Family Visits in some camps the food have to be ordered from the institution others do not. Not all camps offer Family Visits. Please check with the camp prior to your visit for rules and regulations etc. If you have any new and updated information on this particular camp please share in this thread so others can benefit.

Thank you

Hi..

My hubby is at Intermountain. I haven't been up there yet bcuz he got his visiting privileges taken away for 6 months. But I should be going next month. From what he tells me, this is a disciplinary camp. He says they are strict there compared to the other camp he was at. He was at High Rock last year. Just things like phone sign ups and how they are not allowed to wonder around. He said he would be able to jump on the phone anytime at the other camp and they were allowed to wonder around the camp. But other than that he has no complaints. Im sure they are way better off there then at CCC!

Hello..

Anyone have any visiting information for Intermountain Camp # 22?? I looked thru this whole thread and did not find anything. I'm planning a trip to go see my hubby in mid July. The address doesn't even appear in my navigation so finding the camp alone is going to be a mission!! And I'm driving out there from L.A. so I know I'm in for a good drive! I just hope my 6 yr old can tolerate it. :taz:

Thanks!
Hey there!!! I've been to intermount Camp and it is great!!! I can definitely give you directions since you are going from LA. I come from Beaumont...east of LA. They are very nice there!!! You must bring your own food...no homemade of course. Anymore info, PM me!

I've visited Intermountain Camp. I haven't gone to a regular visit, just family visit. While I was visiting, I did get to see the regular visiting area. Not many people showed up, but I guess that isn't necessarily bad! =) The visiting area is very nice. It's pretty much like a picnic area at any community park. The camp is surrounded by tall pine trees and squirrels LOVE to get food from the visitors. They have bbq pits and benches.

I believe the hours are from 9 until 3:30 pm. Food needs to be store bought. I don't think they ask for receipt, but it's always wise to just keep it.

I got the directions from the camp, so here they go!

Take 5 to Redding California

From 5, take Highway 299 East
You will take it for approximately 100 miles (traveling through towns of Burney, Fall River Mills, McArthur)
Then, approximately 18 miles past McArthur you will reach the town of Nubieber.

At Nubieber, take a LEFT turn at County Road/Kramer Road. You will see a sign stating "Intermountain Conservation Camp" on the right-hand side of the HWY 299 before the turn.

Continue until you reach a crossroad and turn LEFT on County Road 416/Four Corners Rd. Follow this road until you raech the camp entrance, which is on the right-hand side of the road.

anyway, I hope this is a little helpful.

anybody have info on intermountain??

Sorry I could not find any info on this camp in this thread. For this thread we rely on gals that have visited to post what the visiting was like. Maybe after you find out what the visiting is like here you can post a answer for us.

I did find the thread that is dedicated to Intermountian camp. I will post the link for you. You might want to read thru that thread and see if any of your questions are answered. If not the best advise I could give you is to call the camp. The CO's at the camps are usually very friendly and helpful and will usually answer all your questions for you.

Here is the link for the camp thread.

If you haven't heard from your guy yet, feel free to call the camp and ask questions. Most COs at a fire camp are pretty nice and helpful! Good luck and hope you are able to visit soon!
