PRISON inmates can now attend art classes and get a certificate to show for their handiwork for the first time, under a new collaboration between the Singapore Prison Service (SPS) and the LASALLE College of the Arts. The new programme aims to introduce inmates to art concepts and train them in the use of such techniques as drawing lines and using colours in paintings.
It will also allow them to build up a portfolio of works, which will give them opportunities to further their education in fine art or pursue relevant employment after their release.
Selected inmates attend nine hours of lessons per week, and will receive a certificate of completion from LASALLE at the end of the five-week course.
