However, it is a big possibility that a few of our prisons may need to close d/t budget cuts. I never found any articles that said for sure that certain prisons would be closing. If you find something, be sure and post it for us all to be able to read. Thanks. miss k_0836 05-17-2009, 06:10 PM http://www.examiner.com/a-2015152~Oregon_prison_may_close_due_to_budget_cuts .html Oregon prison may close due to budget cuts __________ According to the article, it isn't a done deal yet. I just do not understand. Why don't they leave the old ones and save lots of money by forgoing the new one. grannyG 05-17-2009, 08:16 PM According to the articles that I have read, they are considering putting the Junction City prison on hold, and just building the mental hospital portion of that facility, for now. JDsButterfly 05-18-2009, 12:44 AM http://www.leg.state.or.us/budget/agency_30_reductions/DOC.pdf this is the DOC's budget proposal. if you read through it you will see what other things they are considering cutting. also you will find that they are considering closing 10 prisons, including warner. since the budget forecasts came in friday, i expect to start hearing more about what might be cut starting tomorrow. they only have a little over a month to decide. so i am keeping my eye on it. and praying for closures! sorry, i'm one sided on this issue. D&S 05-18-2009, 05:47 PM I don't believe that it has been fully determined yet just what percentage of a budget cut DOC will have to implement. As can be seen from the proposed cuts posted by JDs Butterfly, the first 5 percent of cuts is delineated by everything above the yellow highlight; then the next 5 percent of cuts shown by the purple highlight, then blue 15%, pink 20% and green 10%. So if a total 30% cut were required it would include all of the proposals. If only 5% of a budget cut were needed it would only include the portion above the yellow highlight. And as we all know, everything is subject to change, but at least this gives everyone some kind of an idea what may happen. This is the way I read it; someone else may have a different take on this. JDsButterfly 05-27-2009, 03:01 AM D&S is correct. that is the way the report was intended. but i bet anything they will change it up some before the end of june. check this one out http://www.leg.state.or.us/budget/2009_11Co_ChairRecommendedBudget.pdf public safety is on pages 14 through 18. Dragonflylady 05-27-2009, 02:46 PM In the last 48 hours my husband has been transferred twice - First to Salem and then again yesterday to Warner Creek - Reading this thread makes me ask the question why move him if there is a possibility that they are going to close down- That makes a lot of sense....NOT!! So is there anyone on here that has family at this facility that I can get some information about. I live in Medford and don't know if anyone lives here that travels over there for visits. Would consider carpooling..... grannyG 05-27-2009, 04:01 PM Wow, for as long as it lasts, it looks like he might be a little closer to home. Try looking on the bright side of things I guess. And, (not really so don't get your hopes up) maybe when they close that prison down, the guys that they have there are the ones that get early release? We could always hope that is the way things were going to go. If I thought there was a chance of that, I'd be demanding my brother get moved there (as if I would have any luck demanding anything, either). lglgirl 06-11-2009, 07:52 PM Maybe they are moving low risk inmates to Warner, so that their releases will be easier when warner closes??? Maybe?? Hopefully?? JDsButterfly 06-12-2009, 10:35 AM i wish so much that were true. though it sounds like the state is determined to keep all prisons open at this point. i know the legislature is working on it, i haven't checked the results of their voting on the tax increase yesterday. i know that to not so dramatically cut the budgets they need that tax increase to pass. it sounds like they are cutting some sentences short though, and that is good too. i keep praying, for those who don't belong there to be released soon. we'll see.
