I need info about the kyle unit. I am told that it is a clean unit, any food, lodging, and directions to the unit would be appreciated. Thank you

I wanted to know how the unit is a whole

I am sorry i did not intend my comment to be rude but looking at it now it was and i am sorry. There seems to be little to no info on the kyle unit. No info about the program, how the unit is ran as a whole. I am really frustrated and confused about this whole thing. Again sorry for being rude it was not my intention. :) No worries, I didn't take it as being rude at all. After reading your question again, I didn't answer your question very well. I hope someone who has a loved one on this unit,comes along soon with information. I wish I knew more about this facility to share with you. I understand the frustration, when my son was sent to Mineral Wells it took a litte while to get information on his unit, so I totally understand. thanks for the info and any info is better than none. It seems as though this unit is really secretive and of course that makes you wonder as you well know that tdcj keeps lots of secrets. But I do know that he will be fine I am just letting the devil work OT on me. THanks again and GOD BLESS

Ok so if anyone is reading this the Kyle unit is a clean clean clean unit. The guards are very nice and courteous. The unit as a whole seems to be very layed back. My husband said you do what you are suppose to and there will be no problems. He did say that it is a big tell on others type of thing and it is suppose to teach them to hold others accountable for their actions. Over all he did not have a whole lot of complaints. The food is ok but just not alot of it. A whole lot better than the hamilton unit. There are many things to see in San Marcos and lots of shopping in the area. We stayed a motel 6 San marcos, the rooms ar completely remodeled and clean. Hope this helps any of you that are looking for info on the Kyle unit. Over all this is a good clean unit. The security staff are nice and very respectful. Warden Shirley is an easy person to talk fo, very down to earth. Warden Shirley is the family liason officer and he seems to really care. Now the people from Gateway well that is a whole nother story. I went to the family counseling session with the promise that the "counselor" would have my husbands file and be able to answer any questions I might have. THAT WAS A JOKE, not only did the counselor not know who my husband was, she knew absolutely nothing about his treatment plan etc. Just a little insight into the Kyle unit. My son is just starting the program today.I know when he writes me a letter I will find out a lot more about the program.As I hear from him I will keep every one posted

Gateway did in fact lose the contract at the Kyle unit but MTC is the security staff. The treatment part was taken over by a company called CEC (Community Education Center). I think thats what it stands for but google it they have alot of info on the internet. The program really has not changed much from that of Gateway and almost all of the staff is the same too. Just a few staff members left. Your sons program should have started the day he was recieved at the unit. Look for him to be released exactly 6 months, or close there after. Example my husband started the program 4-24 and is scheduled for release on 10-27. The program is alot of drug rehab but also gives them things like anger management. different ways of looking at life situations etc Hope this helps answer your questions

Awww, see what my guy started??? Was that your first phone call from him? Jeff called me the night he got there, as he had missed calling me the night before, which was our planned night for him to call. He couldn't b/c he was enroute. I'll be going to visit him this weekend and I can't wait! :)

I think they can call every day if they want to. As I posted before he called on 9/18. then again on 9/21 & 9/24. He mentioned they were on lock down for 2 days.
