Does anyone know about LWOPS (Lifers without the possibility of parole) being able to go to the Board of Prison Terms after serving 30 years to request release in California despite their LWOP sentence? My fiance and another friend are serving LWOP sentences and they've told me of this possibility. Coincidentally they were both sentenced (separate crimes) in the late 80's, before 3 strikes laws and such. Now I hear that this particular law, if there is such a thing, is possibily being cut in half. Making them eligible to go to the board after serving 15 years. Both people are in for Murder. Any info. is appreciated. I've been searching all of the existing statues and new pending bills. Supposedly this latest bill is attached to another bill, kind of a "back-doored" measure in light of the budget situation.

Hi there..not sure if I can help, My Rocky is in Ohio, we had heard about a lifer law going in effect sometime..he's got life, but not LWOP, I guess new law would give lifers chance for parole after doing 20 yrs, but this could be just a rumor..but we continue to hope and pray he comes home soon..he will be in 20 yrs come March.

I'm just making an educated guess here, but LWOP means LWOP in every state that I know of. I think this must just be a rumor. And they're surely not going to cut it down to 15 years any way you look at it.

I know some LWOP sentences ahve been turned around and cut down. I do not know how or why. Isn't there a prison watch dog group in CA? I think in frisco or sacramento. Look on the net and contact them.
