View Full Version : Upset with the Govener
Kebela1 01-01-2004, 07:24 PM The other day I was listening to a local rock and roll station on the radio coming home from work in the morning. The disc jockys were talking with Perdue about something called Saturdays with Sunny. They had asked the Govener was the best thing discussed with him. He said that there were alot of good suggestions about the schools and how to improve them. Then the DJ's ask what was the stupidest thing that people talked to him about. His reply p---ed me off! He said that there were alot of people there talking about how to change the prison system and just begging to get their loved one out of prison. He also said that if they were there, there had to be a reason for them to be there. I was so mad. The Govener of this stupid state and the DJ's were laughing and going on about it. The DJ's asked how Sunny handled these questions and suggestions reguarding the prisons. Sunny said that he had to show compassion to the familiy member while blowing them off at the same time. I just wanted to reach though the radio and choked him! I hope that he never has to have a familiy member go through what our loved ones are going through, but in a way it would serve him right so that he could understand better what we are going through. I received a threatening letter from another inmate on New Years eve and now I fear for my son and also my family. I don't know how he got my name or address, but if I could come up with the money to move from the area I would. How would Sunny Perdue like to live in fear for his inmate in the inside and his family on the outside. These are some of the things that we have to go through that he doesn't understand. I would love to talk to the man, but I know that I would just be "blown off" and not taken seriously because he doesn't really care. I feel that all the fighting I am doing for my son and the inmates and their families is really useless now. NO ONE is going to really try and help us to make the prison system a fair and just system. I don't know what I was thinking that I could actually make a difference for those in the inside. They just consider all of our loved ones "trash" no matter what the circumstance are that they are in for and they feel that we are "trash" for having family on the inside. Sorry, just had to vent. That radio station should be ashamed that their DJ's were laughing and making rude remarks about others that more unfortunate than they are. They had better be careful what stone they cast, it might be them or one of theirs one day.

lilivoryangel 01-01-2004, 08:11 PM This really makes me angry and more convinced of how he really is. I want to question him about this!
michelleg 01-01-2004, 11:53 PM Tell everyone you know what an a**hole he is. Tell them not to vote for him and to ask him anytime they might get a chance if that is how he usually responds to the needs and issues of his constituents.
Is there anyway to get a transcript of that?
mnd4evr 01-02-2004, 06:19 AM Barb,
Which radio station was it? I know that 96Rock & 99X have some off the wall morning shows, but are usually just throwing stuff around anyway.
Absolutely no offense to anyone else's political views, but this is what happens when a super conservative politician is elected to office. As Michelle mentioned voting, 2004 is an election year and you can bet I will be on top of the campaign 'promises' of every candidate. I would love to complain about Sonny P., but I didn't get my registration moved to my new district in time to vote last time-so I didn't do my part for the Democrats of the state, but you can be darn skippy I will this year (unless the candidates are totally awful)!! There is only one issue that I am conservative about and I will keep that viewpoint to myself, other than that I am one of those 'Liberal Democrats', but I do not vote straight ticket.
Those reading, remember this is not an attack on anyone's political views, just my opinion and why we live in a 'free' country.
strongernow 01-02-2004, 12:43 PM Good Ol' Sonny Purdue.
Let me tell ya, I have personally experienced him acting like he cared but blowing us off at the same time.
My mother thought she would write him a letter regarding Chris because she is extremely furious that he won't be able to be here for the birth of his child.
We got a generic letter from Sonny telling us who would could write but he sends his apologies because general inmate matters are out of his control.
Needless to say, your post didn't shock me.
lilivoryangel 01-02-2004, 05:26 PM Sound like we got the same letter.he's a joke.
lilivoryangel 01-02-2004, 05:36 PM I really want a transcript of this. Does anyone know what station it was?
cgold 01-02-2004, 05:43 PM Barb, I agree with your outrage. I really don't like the guy.
Oh, I also got one of those inmate letters. I took it down to the detention center and turned it over to them. Funny thing is they mentioned something to my son about it and then the guy that wrote it got switch to my son's pod and my son took a lunch tray after him. I know I should not laugh or encourage him but the officers suddently remembered that the two were not suppose to be put together.
I know its scarey but most the time those letters are just intended to get money from you. If you let it go, they'll get away with it. We weighed the risk to our son and decided it was greater not telling then telling. We didn't press charges but we made sure they knew we wouldn't put up with crap.

cgold 01-02-2004, 06:09 PM Barb, the more I think about this the angrier it makes me. I sent a portion of your comments to Marian Clien. Don't know if she'll react or not but I suspect those comments were directed at Equal Justice and Fairness 4 Families.
Wonder if he knows how many votes are involved with the correctional system.
Kebela1 01-03-2004, 12:37 AM It was my husbands radio station and I know it was 92. something. I believe that it was 92.3 or maybe 93.2. I suppose that someone here will know what the rock station is, but it is one of those numbers. I am still very angry over the comments that he made. Our inmates are important to all of us and like I said, maybe he will be in our shoes someday and find out what it is really all about. What happened to my son could happen to anyone! As bad a I was when I was a kid, and all my other friends, I am suprised that it didn't happen to one of us. It could even happen to someone from the judical sysytem that goes out and has a drink durning their lunch break. Anything that I can do to help get Perdue out of office let me know. I know it is wrong to hate, but with what I heard last weekend, I can;t help myself.

cgold 01-03-2004, 04:50 AM Barb, I forwarded a portion of your comments to Equal Justice/Marion Clien and here is her response. I think its good. ------------------------------------
Hi Cheryl.
Thanks for thinking about me and sending these comments along to me. I
really appreciate it, and hope you continue to pass things along.
These comments are from a subscriber on the F2F list, who feels as outraged
as you. I am not sure if he was referring specifically to Georgians for
Equal Justice or Fairness. But you know what? Either way, it doesn't
discourage me the least bit. The reason why is that two years ago,
prisoners and their families wouldn't have been mentioned at all. We simply
weren't on the politicians' radar screens. But now, prisoners' families are
coming together and raising their voices, and organizing for power. As we
grow in power, we can expect more remarks like this. But it's a positive
thing, becuase it means we're making them nervous, because they know we are
going somewhere! Does that make sense?
Do you subscribe to F2F?
Thanks again, Cheryl.

IrishEyes 01-04-2004, 03:52 PM God love that Marion Rae!!! If you folks aren't involved with Georgians for Equal Justice, GET THAT WAY!! The only way to make a noise among a bunch of politicians is to be ONE voice, and that ONE voice, is alot louder than anything we can do on our own.. I'm guessing that radio station was Z93,.. it's the classic rock station in Atlanta... they're pretty rowdy bunch, but the Governor should absolutely be held accountable for his statements..
Kebela1 01-04-2004, 10:31 PM YES YES, That was the station that I was listening to.
Bnsmiths 01-05-2004, 03:17 PM The very best thing all of us can do is register to vote and get rid of these public officials. The Republicans only want to punish people and cut prison spending. This insanity will continue until the people rise up and vote DEMOCRAT.
mnd4evr 01-06-2004, 06:13 AM Let's give Sonny another big pat on the back (not!). Just off the press...pay special notice to the next to the last paragraph/sentence in the article. I'm all for extra help in the GBI labs, but not just to get 'criminals' off the street, but also to release those wrongly convicted!!!! Yet another X in my book for big man Sonny!

jwahl 01-06-2004, 10:44 AM Barb,
I've also received one of those letters, good old Sonny at his best. He my not give a darn about the prisoners, but he should remember their families can vote. Sonny has a way of getting people P___d off.
