Not exactly, he would have to be nominated for it by the administration but he may be able to request it aswell.

From FL DOC:
http://www.dc.state.fl.us/oth/inmates/gaintime.html
Meritorious Gaintime (s. 944.275(4)(c) F.S.) may be considered for an inmate who commits an outstanding deed.
Maximum award is 60 days.
Examples of outstanding deeds are saving a life or assisting in recapturing an escaped inmate, or in some manner performing an outstanding service.
I'd probably call his Classification Officer and ask if it were me. (But then I call her so often, we're on a first name basis - LOL!)

Jreed I don't know the answer to your question but I do know this for sure......get it documented....and make 15 copies of it...seiously, get everyone that witnessed it to sign a statement or write their own.....you keep a couple, have your man keep one, and send one to every body and their brother who is in authority at his prison...good things like that seem to get lost or forgotten....even if he doesn't officially get time off his sentence it can't hurt to have that in his records and please tell him Thanks for me....you gotta hand it to him...he must be a good man to do such a good deed...it would be so easy to look the other way...ya know? May God bless him.....Judy
