View Full Version : PVSP Visiting Questions/Info
luckyme1526 06-02-2005, 04:29 AM I sent in my visiting form on Monday the 23rd of May, I am so excited to finally get to see my friend, (we may become more than friends after that visit) so I was just wondering when I should expect to recieve an answer? Thank you very much in advance for your time! :)
Rebeca
P.S. By the way he is P.V.S.P
mrslamas 06-02-2005, 08:08 AM it took me less than a month when my husband was in SQ, now he is MCSP and my information just transferred with him. As long as you didn't leave out anything or lie about anything you should be fine. My mother in law got denied because she left out something that happened over 20 years ago.

Cheetoes1 06-02-2005, 09:31 PM It took my application about 7 weeks to be approved @ NKSP ( Delano) to visit with my son. And I believe it was about 4 weeks? ( 10 years ago!! LOL ) to visit my husband.

patswife4-ever 11-14-2008, 12:28 AM HI and welcome to PTO!! Here is a link to pvsp. This should help you out some. Every prison is different with visiting so you might want to check out this link. http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=917

LuvandLaughsCA 11-14-2008, 07:12 AM Hi everyone. I am new on here i have been checking out the site as a visitor and reading some of the forums on here and everyone one here seems real friendly. So i decided to join because i do have some questions that needs to be answered and some support.
I wanted to know if i could visit without making an appointment Yes you can visit without making an appointment and if so
what time should i arrive they start handing out passes at approx. 7:30am if you arrive prior to that time there is usually a small line of cars
and what should i wear. when i was visiting there i wore black capris and either a black, red, or pink top however the other ladies know what other colors are acceptable  nothing too tight, nothing transparent, no underwire bras, no shower shoes, no blue or green...i know someone will come along with the rest of the list
I know i cannot wear any denim but how about my 2 yr old son can he? no blue denim i've seen people wear black but you're safer going with a non denim choice until you see what others are wearing
Just so you know im trying to visit pvsp. Thanks in advanced. Any info will helpful. (this is my first time going to visit so im kind of nervous):)
Welcome to the Pleasant Valley State Prison forum. :)
Butrfly420 11-14-2008, 08:15 AM :DWelcome to PVSP sweetie...:D
Luvs pretty much answered your questions...but let me give you a little more details about the clothes. You are not suppose to wear anything that is blue or green...although I have seen people come in with both
To be on the safe side...I always stick to the good colors. Black, red...pink...those shades...BUT even with that...if the C/O can see your bra...they will make you change. Or if they feel its to low cut...or if they think your shirt is to short...they might ask you to lift your arms. I hate it when they do that....LOL.
They say that if a child is smaller then the counter than they can wear the blue denim....but again...I would be on the safe side with that...and say just dress him like you...no blue.
OH YEA...I keep forgetting to post this...NO DC shoes. On the adults or the kids. My daughter wore a pair of DC's last weekend and they made her change them...same with another woman who was wearing the brand. Its because of the 2 5 gang or something like that...so you cant wear that brand name. And SouthPole...I have seen them turn away people who have worn SouthPole clothes...because of the name South.
Its hard to tell what is acceptable and what isnt...its very inconsistant. :( I hope this helps a little...if there is anything more we can do...just let us know...we are all family here...so dont be shy to ask anything :D

LuvandLaughsCA 11-14-2008, 08:20 AM Thanks for posting about the South Pole. MrsForeverMines son was told to change because he was wearing a South Pole shirt. Something to do with them thinking it's promoting Southsiders.
Thanks for adding the additional information Butrfly I knew you had more experience than me. :D
NewLife12 11-14-2008, 09:01 AM Welcome to PVSP, KROCKS we are glad to have you join us. Enjoy your visit and be safe. We look forward to meeting you:)

I apologize if my questions came off as nosey. :o The reason I asked if because the ladies with a loved one on the same yard can give you a better idea about the vending and visiting. :)
marcswifey 11-14-2008, 09:34 PM Welcome to the PVSP family.
negretelove 11-14-2008, 11:36 PM fyi when i was there 2 weeks ago they were turning ppl away that had grey shirts....
KROCKS79 11-15-2008, 12:24 AM thanks 4 the info because i was going to where a grey shirt
Passingtrucker 11-16-2008, 06:36 AM You neglected to mention which CDC facility you wanted to visit, but because the moderator (PTO God) had moved your thread to PVSP sub-section, I'd surmise your ♥ ♥ is there. You can call PVSP and ask for Visitors Bldg extension; their number is (559) 935-4900. Click on CDC's PVSP (http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Visitors/Facilities/PVSP.html) link to checkout their site. You're aware that you need to be pre-approved before they'll let you see your ♥ ♥ ?? Normally, you need to submit a CDC form-106 (http://www.vspw-ifc.com/VisitingForm.html), which takes about 3 weeks to a month to process. They run a criminal background check, and if you lie or give false info, they'll either reject your application; or (to humor the COs who are bored with their jobs) they'll approve you, then turn you down in person, just to see the look in your face after you've traveled so far and wasted so much time and gas. When you call PVSP, ask if there's a separate PO Box address for Administration and processing of form-106. If you send it to the inmate's mailbox, it may take longer to approve you, because there's a backlog of inmates' mail that needs to be opened and inspected for hidden contraband, and each letter is read for forbidden topics (escape, smuggling contraband, etc...)
5down&2togo 12-29-2008, 10:35 PM I havent' seen my man in 5 long years and I just got the green light. I heard appointments are taken 2 weeks in advance and I don't think I can wait that long. So, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I live almost 300 miles away from PVSP and I wanted to know what the advantage is in visiting with an appointment. How does it work?
Also, has anyone visited on a holiday, like new years day? If so, is it busier than normal visiting days?
Basically, please give me the rundown on what to do.
Thank you for reading this,

Butrfly420 12-29-2008, 11:02 PM Welcome to PVSP
5 years is a long time...how excited you must be :yay::yay::yay:
You are correct...when you call and make appointments they are for 2 weeks out. The advantage about having an appointment is that you dont have to wait as long to get processed. At 8:30 the prison starts processing all the appointments. They will start processing non appointments at 10:00 a.m. Sometimes they will start calling non appointments earlier...but you never know. :(
PVSP has Friday visits...which normally arent very busy...and they are non appointment days. You can arrive at the prison around 7:30 a.m. and stand in line. At 8:30 a.m...the guard will come out and call the first 10 people...if its not busy...then they might call everyone. Then you get processed. I always like Friday visits...its always so much easier :)
If you want to make an appointment you call the appointment line Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The phone number is (559) 935-3780...the line will be busy...but if you keep pressing redial...you can get through. Its not an easy thing...and can be very discouraging...so be patient and dont give up
When you visit without an appointment...you can get a pass a couple of ways. You can get to the prison very early and wait in the car line outside prison grounds. About 7:45 or so...a guard will come out and start handing out passes. Or once you get on the grounds (after 8:00) you can wait in the non appointment pass line and when the guard comes out and starts calling appointments...she/he will hand out non appointment passes.
So when you have an appointment...it really eliminates all that trouble ;)
I have visited on holidays...and they are not as busy (at least not on the actual day). For Thanksgiving and Christmas Day...the visiting room was not full at all...but the days after were very busy.
I hope this helps a little...if you have any more questions...we are all here to help sweetie...happy visiting :D

In addtiion to the information that Butrfly420 provided since you live more than 250 miles away and haven't visited in more than 30 days you are entitled to 2 consecutive of visiting without being terminated.
Pleasant Valley doesn't normally terminate for over crowding but it's helpful to have the information in case they do ever get really crowded.
Welcome to the Pleasant Valley family. :)
5down&2togo 12-30-2008, 10:32 AM Knowledge is power & thank you for sharing it.
Yes, I am excited, anxious, & feeling good about making the trip on friday, thanks to your help.

Mrs.Gomez 01-01-2009, 01:38 PM So I went onto the CDC website and printed a list of acceptable attire for visits, but while I was browsing this forum I noticed that a lot of the items that are mentioned as unacceptable in this form are not posted anywhere on the CDC site. So my question is...What types and colors of clothing are permitted? Can I wear like Khaki or gray dickies? What about shirts? What is permitted as far as colors of shirts? Any additional information that anybody can provide would be greatly appreciated?
LuvandLaughsCA 01-01-2009, 01:52 PM I can tell you what I've worn to visit at PV.
Black pants usually capris. I've worn black ballet flats, and sandals.
For tops I've worn red, black, and pink.
I've seen people go in wearing light colored pants (like a real light khaki color) I don't recall seeing gray.
I've also seen people wear yellow. Tops in patterns seem to work well too for insance say black/yellow/white.
I belive many of the ladies who visit on a regular basis are actually at visit today for New Years but they should be around later this afternoon/evening and can add additional information.
I hope this helps a little. :)
Butrfly420 01-01-2009, 07:10 PM Like Luvs said...black is always a safe color to wear there. You can wear khaki but in pants only...if you wear a khaki colored top...they might make you change because they say it matches the colors of there uniform. You can wear green...but its an "ify" color. If it is the type of green that looks to much like the C/O's then you will for sure have to change.
Red, pink, yellow, purple...they are all safe colors. Just make sure when you wear tops that they are not to low cut...like if they are V neck...and that they are not to short. If the C/O's think your shirt is to short they will ask you to raise your hands to see how far up it goes. If it goes to your pant line...then they will make you change....its such a hassle
You can wear gray...but a dark gray...not a light gray. The inmates wear gray sweats...so that is the reason why gray is an "ify" color as well. You can wear dark brown though...I have worn that color many times.
The clothing rules change pretty much at any time...so its hard for us to keep up with. One weekend...one outfit will be acceptable...the next it wont...it just really depends. I would stronly encourage you to bring extra clothes...just in case.
negretelove 01-02-2009, 11:09 AM like luvs and butfly mentioned black, red, pink is the safe way to go...
some "do nots"
blue of any kind top or bottom
grey sweat pants and no grey tops of any kind
no white tops, if you do whit pants make sure they are denim and you cannot see through them
stay away from form fitting anything if you are wearing jeans you have to be able to slip your hands easily into the back pockets)
no DC brand shoes
and all of the rules apply to children too
fyi they lifted the ban on hoodie type shirts and sweaters so you can wear them rain or shine!!!!
Butrfly420 01-02-2009, 01:49 PM Update: I heard as of yesterday from Gibbyslady that they are NOW allowing DC Shoe brands....
The clothing limitations change so often...its so hard to keep up

negretelove 01-02-2009, 03:04 PM thank you miss butrfly!!!!
my head just keeps spinning with their indesision to make a desision and stick with it for more then 30 days!!!! CDCR always something!?!?!?!?!
waiting4july 01-02-2009, 04:07 PM Hi ladies, I'm also confused by the dress code, I'm waiting to be approved but as soon as I am I'll be heading to pvsp. So my question is about volour outfits, can I wear black? And also my black pants are a little tight, so will they be allowed?
nitamac 01-02-2009, 04:33 PM Hi ladies, I'm also confused by the dress code, I'm waiting to be approved but as soon as I am I'll be heading to pvsp. So my question is about volour outfits, can I wear black? And also my black pants are a little tight, so will they be allowed?
Black is a safe color to wear, but no tight paints are allowed. They make you raise your hands over your head if they think your shirt is to short. So make sure that your stomach does not show when you raise your hands above your head.
Butrfly420 01-02-2009, 07:44 PM Nitamac is correct...be careful about how tight your pants are and how short your shirt is...they will make you change if they think its not appropriate. :(
gibbyslady 01-02-2009, 08:49 PM I did go in today wearing my DC!!!
I ALSO AGREE BLACK IS THE SAFEST COLOR....
JAAXMAA 01-06-2009, 04:44 PM :confused:I HAVE A QUESTION REGARDING THE VISITING FORM!!! I FILLED IT OUT BUT I FORGOT TO PUT MY SS#!!! WILL THEY STILL ACCEPT IT OR WOULD I HAVE TO FILL ANOTHER ONE OUT OR COULD I JUST CALL THE LT.I DID PUT MY ID #!!! ANYTHING WILL HELP THANX!!! (THIS IS @ PVSP)
Butrfly420 01-06-2009, 08:38 PM I know on the form where you are suppose to put your SS# it says (optional) so I dont know how important it is to have it there.
I would call LT. Carr and ask...she would definitely be able to tell you. Her number is (559) 935-4900 ext. 5712 :)

Mrs.Gomez 01-08-2009, 12:42 AM Hey everyone, I have two questions that I hope somebody can help me with. 1) On Friday visits do I need to get a pass at the front gate or do I just go and stand in the line with no pass? 2) How long does it usually take for the family visit approval?
negretelove 01-08-2009, 10:18 AM friday you can usually walk up to the front desk after 8:30 and they will give you a pass. if they are delaying visits due to fog or emergency count they will come outside and give out passes.
as far as FV i was told but do not know for sure that it can take 3 to 6 weeks to get approved but do not quote me...lol
someone will be along and can answer that for sure!!!
Butrfly420 01-08-2009, 01:16 PM If you get to the prison before 8:30...then you have to stand in line with the other ladies and at 8:30 a guard will come out and call the first 10 people in for processing. If it is not busy...then they will call everyone in.
negretelove is correct...they might delay visits due to fog or emergency count...so then you would have to wait for them to come out and hand out the passes.
If you are already married and know that you can have Family Visits...then your husband can get the ball rolling on that as soon as possible. It will probably take a few weeks to your date. But if you still have to get married...than it takes about a couple months before you get your Family Visit date.
I hope this helps :D

Cali310 01-11-2009, 08:14 PM When are pictures taken at P.V.? Is there a schedule or anything, if the yard is needed, it's D yard I'm inquiring about. Thanks!

Professional pictures? Or pictures taken during a visit?
Cali310 01-11-2009, 10:22 PM During visiting
Butrfly420 01-11-2009, 10:27 PM You can take pictures pretty much any time during the visit as long as its before 2:00 p.m. On our yard....you have to give your name to the visiting room porter to let him know that you would like to take pictures. When its your turn...he will come and get you and then you take your pictures.
They started doing this when they got the digital camera.
But like I said...this is what they do on our yard (A Yard) I am not sure if they do it the same way on D Yard :o
negretelove 01-11-2009, 10:31 PM D yard pics taken during visiting is usually up until 2 or 2:30 they will call "last call for pictures". you can pretty much take them anytime during visit before last call. you just let the porter or the CO know when you are ready.

It's pretty much the same on "c" yard. You just need to let the porter or CO know.
OsosWifey 01-14-2009, 08:34 AM Yes last time I went both Saturday and Sunday I got in wearing my DC shoes, but bring back ups just in case!
VanessaFBabby 02-23-2009, 09:22 AM So...:( I got denied at Pleasant Valley, they said I can fill out another form listing all my arrest history the last time I was arrested I was 14 years old I had no idea they would go back that far with the back ground check now I have to re-apply I did get into a confrontation after I was 18 but I wasnt arrested nor did I goto jail, everything was dropped. I guess I just have to clearly list everything. I just didnt think it would come up since the case was dropped. :(
negretelove 02-23-2009, 09:33 AM hhhhmmmm i am sorry you were denied and yes it is an extensive background check. you state "I wasnt arrested nor did I goto jail, everything was dropped". how or what was dropped??? were the police notified?? was a report taken?? and do you mean the DA dropped the charges before it went to court or no arrest was made???
greeneyesgirl31 02-23-2009, 09:37 AM Yes you have to list anytime of a arrest, even if the charges were dropped it was still arrest and they have it on record. I wish you good luck on the second time you apply for visiting.

Butrfly420 02-23-2009, 09:53 AM I am so sorry you were denied. :(
They really look into your background...so it is always safer to put everything...even if you were a juvenile....just to be on the safe side. When can you reapply?
negretelove 02-23-2009, 10:00 AM whether or not you ever went to court on a charge the arrest is always on record

well a few years ago, I had got into a physical confrontations with an old ex friend, the cops came and since it was physical, reports were made etc. I called the DA to check if I needed to go to court or what not and they said all charges have been dropped because it didnt make it passed the DA something like that I cant really remember why they dropped the charges. But when the police came, no one was arrested but her because she did a hit and run (she hit my car) but no one was taken to jail we just really got a ticket. When I was 14, I was arrested but since it was so minor again, when I called all charges were dropped. I hope this doesnt get me denied again.. but my man told me his bunkies girl is on probation and got approved so hopefully this wont be held against me... :(

I can re-apply as soon as he sends me a form again,(which should be in the mail today) they just said I need to make a list of my arrest history and send the form back in. uhhh now I have to wait 3 weeks again.... I just figured since everything was dropped it wouldnt be on my record, I just had a background check probably like 6 months ago for a job and a passed easily so this is why I figured why list something that wont show up ya know
negretelove 02-23-2009, 10:12 AM okay the altercation at 18 was probably what they want you to report. getting a ticket means you were "arrested". you just got "lucky" and you were not booked in jail. but even though the DA dropped the charges you were "arrested and not charged probably due to lack of evidence or the other party did not press charges".
just to be on the safe side i would list any and everything that a police report was made out on.
you should be okay after that...i was approved and i was on probation for an assult

OHH thanks that so reassuring, so you listed everything you were arrested for and they approved you, I shoulda just been honest from the jump. I just didnt think it'd show but now I know thanks!!
negretelove 02-23-2009, 11:10 AM also just an FYI just because you had a background check for a job and you "passed" does not mean this is not showing up!!! there are several different types of background checks some more extensive then others. if i were you i would seek the advice of an attorney or go to the court yourself (see the probation department) and request for any arrest that you WERE NOT convicted of be sealed...and any arrest that you WERE convicted of be expunged. it might not effect you now but it could in the future so i would be proactive in getting it "off" the record. if you do do this be aware that in dealing with any state or law enforcment agency you will still have to acknowledge the arrests and or convictions. also if you want to see exactly what is on your record you can contact the Department of Justice it will cost and i believe you have to send fingerprints but it is good to know!!!!
i hope you get approved and it is quick because they already have your info in the system

Thanks! I will deffinitly get my record history. I know there has only been two encounters with the law, but I will try and get a print out to avoid any delays in being approved thanks for all the advise everyone:thumbsup:
VanessaFBabby 02-23-2009, 01:16 PM okay one more question a "ticket" means youve been arrested? as in traffic tickets etc??! so I need to make another list of all my tickets since Ive had my license???!wooow.. that may take a while
Butrfly420 02-23-2009, 01:46 PM The traffic tickets...you dont need to list all of those. It would have taken me forever to do that also. :p
With traffic tickets...the only thing they are concerned with that will deny you is if you have ANY outstanding Failure to Appears on your DMV record...or if you have a bench warrant for anything outstanding. But just having traffic tickets wont hurt your chances of being approved

thank you Miss Butrfly for clarifying the traffic tickets....silly me i never think of those as anything more then my contributions to "fattening the courts pockets" all i see is $$$$$ signs!!!!!

ooohhok.. I did just have a recent failure to apprear however I recently cleared that up. Ima send that paper work in just in case fhhheww thanks;)
negretelove 02-23-2009, 03:26 PM maybe this will ease your mind.....when you apply to visit they are looking to see if you have any type of (examples) felony probation/parole, if you have spent any time in a state or fed facility, if there are any court ordered restraining orders between you and the inmate, failure to appears (that have not been cleared), if you are a vissitor at any other facilities with another inmate.
and everything that i mentioned may or may not get you denied....some exceptions can be made but it requires more paperwork and a longer process.

You might have to get something from the courts stating everything was dropped. I went through the same thing my charges were dropped and it was 23 years ago!
VanessaFBabby 02-23-2009, 04:16 PM woow! thanks I will include any court documentation stating that my failure to appear has been cleared and also what has been dropped.
Thanks, Negret your info did help ease my mind :)

Welcome to PV! You can make an appointment or just go. If you "just go" then there will probably be a small car line outside the prison ground if you arrive before 7:30am. If you arrive later (say after 8:00) you will drive onto the prison ground and park. You will see a line/crowd of people. When the CO comes out you will fill out a pass and wait in line until your pass numberr group is called.
Yes there are Friday visits and they are generally less crowded. My first visit there I went on a Friday and it was a breeze.
You didn't mention which "gym" he's in so I can't really tell you about lockdowns.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. :)
msyoungcity 02-25-2009, 02:39 PM THANKS! i would probably get there around 9 or 10 am.... is everything pretty clear when im drivin up, like im gonna know where to go n al that?? im plannin on leavin on a thursday nite, stayin with a friend in fresno then goin to c him fri, sat, n sun w/o makin an appt so hopefully i get my mission accomplished. he is in C gym -middle he jus got put in there from C-1 exact housing removed per PTO policy
so i should b okay dressing like i did when i went to c him at tracy rite?
these things ar a lot of help and thanks so much for yer reply=)
negretelove 02-25-2009, 03:24 PM msyoungcity---welcome to PTO!!!!!
friday is a non appointment day and you will get through pretty fast.
saturday and sunday the lockdown status of the yards is what will determine how fast you get in.
if you are going to coalinga from fresno it is only about an hour drive.
negretelove 02-25-2009, 03:27 PM i usually leave at 6:45am when i have an 8:30 appointment just because you never know if you are going to run into fog.
PV staff has been very strict with the dress code so take several changes of clothes with you!!!
Butrfly420 02-25-2009, 03:45 PM Definitely take a change of clothes...also if you have a car key with the alarm attached...you will need to take it to the "friends outside" trailor and turn it in.
Fresno is not far from the prison at all...only an hour. But Negretelove is correct...give yourself enough time for the drive. You never know what you will run into out there...
negretelove 02-25-2009, 05:22 PM thank you butrfly i forgot the whole key/alarm issue.
also make sure all doors are locked and windows rolled up COMPLETLY!!!
and most of all enjoy your visit!
Butrfly420 02-25-2009, 07:26 PM Oh yes...we cannot forget that...HAVE A WONDERFUL VISIT!!!!!!!
msyoungcity 02-26-2009, 01:35 PM thank you all very much..... pvsp seems a lot more strick than tracy!
so now im worried bout what is okay to wear, i know my black dickie pants will be fine, does the type of shoes matter?? and the types of jackets? i usually wear layers of clothes like a spaghetti strap then a shirt over that then a jacket nd tracy allowed that (i know spaghetti straps aint allowed tho).
does anyone hav a loved one in the C gym middle?
and i was curious to know the price rates of the phone calls, my boyfriend told me its a flat fee of $3 every accepted call.... which i find hard to believe but that would b koo rite there!
and id be allowed to go fri, sat, and sun? im gonna do it w/o an appt, not this wkend but hopefully next.
and (lol) at tracy there is a rule that u can only hav dollar bills or change less than $30 wit a change machine in there for you, is that the same at pvsp? will i b able to take a picture wit him?
ohkay one last thing, how strick ar they on the kiss we allowed to give??? haha
thanks ladies yer al lotsa help
negretelove 02-26-2009, 02:00 PM as far as clothing nothing form fitting and colors cannot be the same or similar to what is worn by prisoners or staff.
phone call rates will be determined by the distance....i am in fresno and i pay i think 2.69 a call
dollar coins and quarters only (change machine is in the lobby) $50 per adult
picture ducs can only be bought with dollar bills
shoes cannot look like the inmates...no black and white chucks/converse
the kiss all depends on the CO running the VR.....1 breif hug and kiss in the begining and at the end
yes you can go all 3 visiting days

ohkay one last thing, how strick ar they on the kiss we allowed to give??? haha The safe rule is a brief hug and kiss when you arrive and when you leave at visit. It does depend on the guards...but I would stay on the safe side ;)

lovinhimstill 03-06-2009, 03:32 PM Hey everyone!!!!! well i made the long trip out there to visit him. got there only to be told he cant have visits cause he works on fridays & the lady said he had to request ETO :(.....disappointed is an understatement...i really needed to see him, talk to him. oh well at least i know how to get there now. it wasnt a bad ride...my friend went with me and we cracked up the whole way so that made it interesting....so i guess i'll have to try the appointment thing.for a sunday...but question if i dont make an appointment and get there at 10 about how long does it take to process and get thru?
ok im just gonna have to write him and tell him that sucks!!!
negretelove 03-06-2009, 07:22 PM i am really sorry that happened to you.....
FYI if you have not had a visit with him within the last 30 days they should have given you the visit without him asking for ETO. also i hae heard that if you have traveled over so many miles they are supposed to okay the visit.

leabe 03-10-2009, 10:49 AM Being from the UK, (as some of you know) Im not up yet on the American holidays as such........i am visiting in a couple of weeks (prepare yourself Butrfly hehehe) and i was wondering if you guys celebrate Easter - and more to the point - do PVSP have an extra day of visiting? I ask because we have 'Good Friday' and then the Monday is a bank holiday which on both days people have off of work etc.
Just curious!
xx
Butrfly420 03-10-2009, 11:52 AM We do celebrate Easter but its always on a Sunday so its a visting day. The holidays that CDCR recognize and would be extra visiting days are:
Christmas Day
New Years Day
Thanksgiving Day
4th of July
Labor Day
and this is IF they fall on a day that isnt a normal visiting day :D
I am SO ready for you to visit sweetie...cant wait:D

Missing-him42 03-10-2009, 09:21 PM Hey everyone... I was just wondering if anyone could tell me about what you can bring for babies... my niece is going to visit with me and she is only 1. I know about the diapers and the wipes but what i'm wondering about is the bag to carry all the stuff in and if she can take a sippy cup with her because she doesn't drink out of a bottle... Please help!! Thanks =)

the bag u bring the stuff in has to be clear...i just checked the cdcr website to see if u could bring in a sippy cup the only thing that they have listed ok to bring is transparent bottles...hope this helps
Butrfly420 03-10-2009, 09:53 PM I know I have seen some little ones with sippy cups...although I am not completely clear on what you can/cannot bring. I would always suggest calling Lt. Carr in visiting and ask. Her number is (559) 935-4900 ext. 5712. She for sure would be able to tell you
Missing-him42 03-11-2009, 07:55 PM Thanks so much for all the helpful info!!:D U guys are the best!! I do have one more question too... if i have an appt and my sister goes with me with they let her in since i didn't give her name also when i made the appt. We would both be going to see my husband??
Butrfly420 03-11-2009, 08:32 PM Yes they will let her in. You can take up to 5 people at a time to see one inmate. When you get to the appointment guy...just let him know that there will be 2 adults. That way he can give you 2 passes

HiZ1n0nLy 03-20-2009, 08:32 PM so question.... when i go to visit my man for the first time at pvsp, our friend will be coming with me so that i wont have to do it alone.. cuz that for me would be nerve racking.. unfortunately she has a boyfriend who wont let her go anywhere without him being there... so i guess my question is.. is there a place where he can wait while we visit? or can he bring us on the grounds and then come back later when we're done to pick us up?! so that he can wait at the hotel room? of should we just wait till he gets approved so that he can come too?! any advice? im just tryin to see my man... as soon as he is off of that whole orientation thing my butt is going straight there...

so happy to hear you are going to visit and you have a friend to support you!!!
now as for the friends boyfriend or any "extra guest" not going into visit they cannot "hang out" on the prison grounds. there is a friends outside trailer but i beleive there is a time limit on waiting (2 hours). he will have to leave and come back for you after the visit....if he is caught/seen on prison grounds they will terminate your visit for the day. i have seen this done a couple of times so do not risk it!!!!
enjoy your visit!!!!!!
if i am wrong about the friends outside trailer someone will come along and correct me....but your best bet is to have him wait at the motel
Butrfly420 03-20-2009, 11:53 PM They say that in order for a person to wait in the Friends Outside trailor they have to be an approved visitor. Which has never made any sense because if that person was approved to visit why would they need to wait in the trailor????
I know all facilities are different on this rule though...so I would try and find out first because negretelove is correct...if your friend is caught just "hanging out" on grounds...it will mean termination of your visit and being made to leave. :(
negretelove 03-20-2009, 11:57 PM hhhmmm you learn something new everyday...thank you butrfly i had no idea about the approved visitor rule and the trailor. :)

When E was still at PV his parents, brother, sister in law and their daughters went to visit. His brother's ID has just expired and he didn't have his current one so he wasn't allowed to visit. They also didn't have the birth certificate for the baby so he waited while everyone else went in to visit. He was approved but unable to visit.
Butrfly420 03-21-2009, 06:51 PM Oh that sucks that he couldnt go into see him :(...was he able to wait in the trailor then?

HiZ1n0nLy 03-22-2009, 03:26 AM ok so i have a good question.. i think... anywho... im kinda "big" up top... i wear nothing but bras with underwire which i know is not allowed.... the last time i went to visit my man i just cut the bra and took the wire out cuz i could bear without it for that visit since it was one hour only... but i know it would be uncomfortable for me for a whole day and i dont want to get myself or my man in trouble if i were to re-adjust on accident.... and sports bras dont offer any support...
my friend had said that there are times that she wears the bra with out the wire with a sports bra ontop.... would something like that be allowed?!? she said that is what she might do when she comes with me to visit... would that cause any problems? HELP !! : )
Butrfly420 03-22-2009, 09:50 AM I think it should be ok as long as they cant tell you are wearing BOTH.
There was a lady that use to visit all the time and she was pretty top heavy and she would wear a sports type of bra...BUT it had metal latches on it (I am not sure where) and they would constantly set off the metal detector. So even if you dont have underwire...the metal latches might set it off. I know its a PITA....so just check your bra's very carefully.

HiZ1n0nLy 03-22-2009, 11:49 AM uggghhh im about to sow my bras together... that way i can really say its one bra... lol JUST KIDDING !! i know lane bryant sells the bra where the wire is plastic but how do we know its really plastic... uugghhh i hate this... and whats the rule about dresses?? i mean there is a dress i wanna wear and it only really looks short when i sit down... what if i were to wear like leggings?? he isnt even off orientation status and im already planning... long 5 months
Butrfly420 03-22-2009, 07:02 PM I have seen people wear leggings under there dresses but I think the dress still needs to be an acceptable length. Just like at school...it has to be at knee length or more. If they think its to short...they will make you change :(
5 months is a long time to not see your loved one sweetie...I bet you are so excited :D Its always good to bring a few change of outfits when you go though. Because you never know what they will change. One weekend an outfit will be ok...the next it wont. Its not very consistant.

oh i know... i remember when he was at ironwood i wore a pair of capri like jeans one day and it was ok... next day they tried to say that it wasnt allowed.... the same with my bra... okay one day not the next.... im so glad i only went there once... sheesh....
yeah five llooooonnnnngggg months... i cant wait.... the butterflies are already flappin... my breathin is gettin all weird thinkin about it... hahahaha im such a baby.....
negretelove 03-22-2009, 08:03 PM okay i am top heavy and i literally bind myself.......bra, sports bra and a "tank top" that is very form fitting to hold it all in (buy the tank top at lane bryant). i have never had a problem i just make sure all of the shoulder straps are alligned with each other and nothing is visable.
and like butrflysaid dresses even with leggings have to be at least knee length
well when you finally get to the visiting room your bra and clothes will be your last concern......so be comfortable and enjoy your visit!!!

frankyswifey 03-23-2009, 12:03 AM HiZ1n0nLy--- i havent seen mine since Christmas weekend (behind glass)and havent touched him since the first weekend in October. I know how you feel. I hope this place is better than ISP... Cant wait till mine gets here. I am calling first thing Monday morning. I think they know my voice at ISP already.
LuvandLaughsCA 03-23-2009, 07:25 AM It's perfectly natural to be nervous. Butrfly I'm sure remembers my first visit to PV and it was a glass visit. Our first contact visit once we got to SATF I thought I would be sick I made myself so nervous. I had butterflies the size of SUV's! I still get butterflies. :)

Do you mean Ad/Seg? If so then no they aren't allowed phone calls. :( Visits are 1 hour behind glass by appointment only.

god im sure we both know that anything is better then isp... that place was horrible... glad i only went to see my man there once while he was there and by the time i got another chance to see him they transferred him to tehachapi... and now its home sweet pvsp !!!!!

suv's?! and you still have them?! how cute... lol but TRY HAVING THEM THE SIZE OF A METEOR !! our first visit was when he was at his first prison... and that was when he was in ad/seg there... so it was behind glass... so not only is this my second visit... ITS MY FIRST CONTACT ONE !! im gonna sit there too scared to even hold his hand...
o0o0o i got a good question i think... how long is too long when it comes to the "peck" on the lips and the hug? im not tryin to have my visits taken away already for "excessive contact" i know they say a breif kiss and hug at the start and end of the visit but when youre lost in the moment that "breif moment" can turn into an enternity without you realizing it... am i right? and one more !!! (o0o0 i know you guys are hating all the questions.... :D:rolleyes:)
whats the deal with sweaters... are they allowed... and im talking about like a cardigan and not hoodies...

Yes you are right. You can very easily get lost in the moment...but you have to try and remember where you are. Some C/O's are more easy going about it...some arent. It really depends...so to be on the safe side...try to keep the kiss under 10 seconds at least.
and one more !!! (o0o0 i know you guys are hating all the questions.... :D:rolleyes:) We never hate any questions...you may ask anything you like ;)
whats the deal with sweaters... are they allowed... and im talking about like a cardigan and not hoodies...Yes...they are allowed. Cardigans and hoodies are both allowed. Just make sure they are not a blue or green color. Sometimes they let those colors in...but it always depends on who is working in processing. Just to be on the safe side
I hope this helps a little sweetie...:D

You are so cute! I thought I'd be scared too but when he walked out and I stood up on spaghetti legs I knew we'd be great. We didn't stop holding hands the whole visit.
I think Butrfly answered your questions.
HiZ1n0nLy 03-23-2009, 11:11 PM butrfly-- 10 SECONDS ONLY?! lol thats nothing but hey thats better than nothing at all... i might just stick to all black... safest colot right? cuz i dont think white hoodies are allowed... your answer didnt help a lil... it helped alot !!! thanks so much !!!!
luvandlaughs-- you would of laughed at me my first visit... it was the one hour behind glass but my legs felt like jello and my palms were all sweaty.... im kinda glad he couldnt feel them cuz he would be grossed out... lol ok maybe not that serious but still... and i have stories about that visit that would have you rolling...
well i talked to someone in visiting just to make sure my visiting approval carried over to pvsp and she said that as of today nothin is showing in the system but that might be because he is still in orientation... so i just realized now that i need to not get soo excited just yet cuz i might be one of those unlucky few whose approvals didnt carry over... but she said to give them a call back in two weeks... he should be off orientation by then it the system might be updated...
HAHAHAHA ANOTHER QUESTION.... how long after getting off orientation status can an inmate get visits? if he officially off on a thursday can i visit that friday? if it only takes 14 days then he should be off orientation next week... but to give it extra time... im planning to go 04/11 and 04/12... so hopefully i will see some of you ladies there....

Ha ha my first glass visit last June I ended upon the 99 instead of the 5 freeway and was texting Butrfly asking her if I could cut across through Wasco to get back to the 5.
They "says" orentation is 10-14 working days so if he's supposed to be off by Thursday you should be able to visit Friday. I would wait an extra week just to be sure and to make sure they have your visiting approval. It would be awful to travel there and be turned away. :(
Butrfly420 03-24-2009, 11:03 AM HiZ1n0nLy - You can wear hoodies there...so no worries about that. Although it is going to start getting warm...so you might not need to wear them. :)
I know that 10 seconds is nothing....on our yard ("A" yard) the rule use to be 3 seconds or less...and they were very strict on that rule. So I am averaging 10 seconds because every yard is different. So you always want to be on the safe side
Black is the safest color to wear....yes its depressing and its so hard to try and look cute...but running back to the car or the trailor takes up so much time...so I would go with what is safe :)
Luvs is correct...if you want to make sure he is off of orientation...you can wait another week...but if he gets off of orientation on Thursday...you technically can see him on Friday. When my man was on orientation he was off on a Wednesday and he was allowed to call me that same day...so I knew for sure I could see him that weekend. Hopefully he will be able to call you as well...that will for sure let you know before you make the trip
Hope to see you there sweetie :D

whats the deal with sweaters... are they allowed... and im talking about like a cardigan and not hoodies...
Like everyone has mentioned, be sure to bring extra clothes & alternative outfits. I've had an issue with a cardigan sweater before and had to change. It was really ridiculous, and all came down to the guard being a guy and not knowing the difference between a cardigan and outerwear. He considered it a jacket and according to the rules we're only allowed to bring in one jacket/coat. I didn't want to waste time arguing women's clothing, so i had to change.
You'll probably be fine, but be prepared with extra options, cause you never know what guard you'll get and how he'll interpret the dress code!
yumyum123 03-24-2009, 03:02 PM Can I visit PVSP with hair extensions on?
NewLife12 03-24-2009, 03:39 PM Yes you can wear hair extensions, but not hair pieces, like ponytails. If the hair can be removed from your head then no, but if it is glued or sewed on the yes.
HiZ1n0nLy 03-26-2009, 12:31 AM ok ladies i need help again... can someone name some good places to stay in or near coalinga.... i need something that has a good price and is most definitly safe cuz my friend has seen one too many horror movies....

I always stayed at the Motel 6. It's clean, not far from the prison, and a reasonable price.
HiZ1n0nLy 03-26-2009, 07:29 PM i hope im putting this in the right thread....
there is a friends outside thing at pvsp, right?
does anyone know if they have a van that can pick you up somewhere in town? my ride fell thru and i really need to see my man...
LuvandLaughsCA 03-27-2009, 08:10 PM I believe they will pick you up if you arrange it in advance. If you're taking the Greyhound the stop is at the Burger King which is within walking distance of the Motel 6.

You're welcome sweetie! We are all in this together...one family united by the prison system. I'd help you out if I still visited there I know how hard it is when you want to visit and it feels like everything is standing in the way. There are wonderful people here and they have helped me out many times. :)

Hey sweetie PM me if I am in town visiting the same weekend I will be more than willing to help you out once you are in town.
Mrs.Gomez 03-31-2009, 07:43 PM I was recently informed that even though my husband is on lockdown in c yard the inmates who are in the hole are still able to get visits. They only get a non-contact visit, but still that is more than we get. This really makes me mad because I know for sure my husband is not the reason for the lockdown and he never gets into trouble. All these guys who did nothing wrong are not able to see their wives and their families, but those who are in the hole for a reason still get their visit. Is there anything that we can do to try to get this rule changed.
ALiferzWife 04-02-2009, 03:52 PM Hey PVSP Ladies!!
I have a friend who is doing a survey to present at the next IFC meeting at her prison and she is trying to learn how each prison handles the selling/issuing of photo ducats.
Can someone please post and let me know if PVSP uses a ducat vending machine or if you buy your photo ducats directly from a CO?
Thanks in advance!!
ALiferzWife 04-02-2009, 05:26 PM Thanks, ladies. I got the answer.
puddles4ez 04-04-2009, 12:09 AM Hey everyone!!!!! well i made the long trip out there to visit him. got there only to be told he cant have visits cause he works on fridays & the lady said he had to request ETO :(.....disappointed is an understatement...i really needed to see him, talk to him. oh well at least i know how to get there now. it wasnt a bad ride...my friend went with me and we cracked up the whole way so that made it interesting....so i guess i'll have to try the appointment thing.for a sunday...but question if i dont make an appointment and get there at 10 about how long does it take to process and get thru?
ok im just gonna have to write him and tell him that sucks!!!
i see a lot of families and try and help direct them. you need to make an appt other wise youll need to be in line early like 2am or so. im not kidding and they are realy hard on people for dress code and not bringing things in and so on. email me if i can help with anything I deal with this every weekend. trust me i understand
puddles4ez 04-04-2009, 12:17 AM I know I have seen some little ones with sippy cups...although I am not completely clear on what you can/cannot bring. I would always suggest calling Lt. Carr in visiting and ask. Her number is (559) 935-4900 ext. 5712. She for sure would be able to tell you
heres another number you can call and if nobody answers then leave a message...935-0660 that is the visiting centers # they can help with questionshope this helps i live here in coalinga and deal with these things every weekend. we need to stick together!!

I called around and found the coalinga motel is about 4 miles from the prison, they give a discount to pvsp visitors and was actually pretty comfortable. Id stay there again. ( that was before I moved here) close and conveinant. i felt safe and there were quite a few other people staying there that were visiting as well. Its not a very big place and it filled up fast. Its right there off the same street as the prison, just up into town. visiting was what brought me here and it became home. Im getting to know the place pretty good. ( The town ) i also found the visitors center to be helpful too. there # is 559-935-0660 hope this helps and feel free to ask if you need anything. Thanx girls any help would trully be appreciated..Good Morning Hernandez, Welcome:). Let me see if i can assist and what I forget the lovely ladies will join in. If the children are monors, you will need birth cert for them as well as a notorized letter from there mother indicating her permission to allow you to take them into visiting. You don't necessarily need a drivers license to enter the grounds, but you do need identification (picture) to be processed into visiting. They do not ask for car registration. Hope this helps
mr's hernandez 04-15-2009, 10:26 AM well im not going in to see him this time im just taking the kids and his mom i want him to be able to focus on his kids but it's such a relief to know that i dont necessary need a license....

thelostone 04-29-2009, 06:03 AM hows it going everyone i',m new to the whole visitation thing, but me, my younger brother and friend just got approved to visit my cousin. Just a few simple questions before I take the long drive to pvsp
1. Do i make a appointment by just calling and getting appointment number, will this work for 3 of us or do we have to make 3 separate calls.
2. Where do i wait when i arrive, :slap: for not knowing, how longs the usual wait for a person with appointment.
3. Do I bring the approval papers with me or just leave them at home
sorry if all these question been ask before just need to get things clarify before i take a 3 hour drive to pvsp

1. Do i make a appointment by just calling and getting appointment number, will this work for 3 of us or do we have to make 3 separate calls. One of the regular ladies will have to answer this because I can't remember. :o
2. Where do i wait when i arrive, :slap: for not knowing, how longs the usual wait for a person with appointment. Are we talking about a regular appointment or for Ad/Seg? If it's Ad/Seg arrive about 45 minutes before the appointment time. If it's a regular appointment I suggest arriving around 8:00am because you never can tell how quickly they'll call appointments. The first appointment time is 8:30 then 8:45 and every 15 minutes until the 10:00am. Sometimes they call a little early so you want to make sure you're there. You will see other people waiting along the sidewalk near the processing building.
3. Do I bring the approval papers with me or just leave them at home
I brought mine the first time I went(I was a nervous wreck) but generally you don't need to bring them just make sure you have a valid picture ID.

Ask as many questions as you want that's why we are all here. We were new once too. :) Enjoy your visit.
Butrfly420 04-29-2009, 07:42 AM Luvs already answered most of your questions, so I will answer the first one

You call the appointment line (559) 935-3780 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11-1. It will be busy...so just keep hanging up and redialing. If everyone who is visiting, are visiting the SAME person, you only need to make one appointment. You can bring up to 5 people to visit one inmate. If a person is visting another inmate, then another appointment needs to be made. But you can make an appointment for yourself and someone else at the same time. Just tell the operator that you would like to make 2 appointments. Also, the appointments will be for 2 weeks out.

The processing is really easy once you do it the first time. Just make sure and bring a change of clothes with you in case they want you to change... And if you have a key with the alarm built in you must turn that in with the Friends Outside trailer. They processing center will not hold your key for you. Also, when you get your appointment, the operator should give you a confirmation number. Try to remember that. Just in case
Happy visiting :D
thelostone 04-29-2009, 01:35 PM thanks for the help everyone!!! ahha well i forgot the confirmation number and its a regular visit no ad/seg
LovemakesLight 04-30-2009, 12:12 PM Even though you don't normally need your approval letter, it'd be a good idea to bring it for your first visit. Just in case! My very first visit the computer system went down and they couldn't verify that I was approved to visit, so they turned me away. They said if I had brought the approval letter than everything would have been good to go. I'm sure this doesn't happen often, but it's always good to be prepared!
kimbypat 04-30-2009, 12:29 PM I have tried to post this 2 other times, i am confused where my reply goes!!
I have a friend who will be going to UC Davis soon for back surgery. Does anyone know if they can receive visitors in the hospital? is there a way to receive info on his condition if I am not family? Can we send flowers or get well card to the hospital for him??
He says they wll tranfer him to C yard when he comes back as is it the medical yard. Does anyone know if a move like this is permanent, or just while he is recovering from the surgery?
thank you. I will see if this one gets posted.

unfortunetly due to security reason he will not be able to have visitors, gifts, flowers.
unless you are his power of attorney and there is a medical release form you will not be able to get info on his condition....even the family may have a hard time due to HIPPA regulaions.
not sure why hw would go to Cyard?!?!?! maybe one of the other ladies have an explanation for this. my husband is looking at having surgery on his entire arm wrist to shoulder and he was told after recovery (PTA dorm?) he would go back to his housing.
many prayers for your friend and a quick recovery

negretelove 04-30-2009, 01:12 PM negretelove, thank you so much, these relationships make me so sad
you are very welcome and i am sorry it is probably not the answers you were hoping for.
i never want to get used to any of this.
kimbypat 04-30-2009, 02:01 PM to negretelove: I should have said, these realtionships make me so sad, but they also bring such amazing joy. These men are so worth every effort it takes to encourage them, because they are such an encouragement in return, and it is truly from their hearts that they speak. They constantly humble me.
LuvandLaughsCA 04-30-2009, 02:11 PM Negrete is correct no visitors/cards/gifts. They also don't allow much if any information to be given over the phone. I'm a member of IFC at another prison and we talked about this at our last meeting. Basically the only time family is notified of anything is if it's life threatening or sadly if death occurs. The hospital is unable to release information because they do not have the inmates medical record/c-file containing the information as to who the power of attorney is...that information is property of the CDCR and is not shared. It's not a very good system but unfortunately it's the one we have to live with.

i asked a relative who is a nurse at another prison where they would house an inmate that needed care after a surgery and she said it would most likely be at the CMC which is the medical ward at the prison.
that might be where the idea of c yard came in. i hope this helps
kimbypat 05-02-2009, 08:08 PM yes it does, i will ask if that is what he means if i get a chance. I have started sending get well cards now, so he will be stocked up on love before he goes, I guess that's all I can do, except pray all day and all night, every day and every night, til we hear from him again. And put my trust in God to take care of His child.
MR.LARIOS WIFE 06-24-2009, 03:43 PM HELLO GUYS I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONES FROM SACRAMENTO & IF SO IF U COULD TELL ME HOW LONG IT TAKES TO GET UP THERE TO PLEASENT VALLEY & IF U DONT HAVE A APPOINTMENT WHEN SHOULD IO LEAVE HERE FROM SAC TO GET THERE ON TIME ! THANKS IN ADVANCE:idea:

angela langford 06-30-2009, 11:42 AM i would call him personaly. i did, me and my man got our visits nearly taken away, so i called to talk to the sargent who is in charge of giving tickets out and suspending visits, i told her it was my fault, and didnt get upset, just talked to her with concern and apolojized, it worked, as to the fact she did like my man. good luck, i would just write the name if you want to send a letter, find out the name. good luck
Butrfly420 06-30-2009, 12:48 PM When my husband and I had our visits suspended....I also had to write a letter to the Warden. I addressed to him...BUT I know he is not the person that reads it. Actually the visiting LT is. But to be safe, go ahead and address it to him and/or the visiting Lt. The Wardens name is James A. Yates.
HiZ1n0nLy 07-05-2009, 06:25 PM its official ladies...
:yay::dance:I GET TO PLAN MY FIRST VISIT TO PVSP !!!!:yay:
:D:DWHOOO HOOO !!!!!:D:D
im soo excited !!!! im hopefully going to make it the 11th &12th and/or the 18th. so im puttin my clothes together now and i had a really quick question... (yeah right... with me.. we all know there are no quick questions:o) there is this top i wanna wear.... the strap is like 1 1/2 inch thick and you cant see my bra... is that something that will be okay or should i not even risk it? and im tryin to choose my "absolute last chance out fit" in case they reject everything i wear... this will be all i have left and i will look completely scrubish.. the pants kinda look almost like scrub pants and they are black... would that be something that will be okay?i mean my whole fit wont look like scrubs... but yeah... i wear nothing but blue jeans and stuff i know wont make it thru and its all i got left...
my other problem is this... im hoping my man will figure it out before i go but in case he doesnt... is there a way i can prove that i was approved for visiting within the last year? im just scared my approval wont transfer and i will be sent away... also do i have to bring the same id that is listed on the visiting for or should any id be okay?
thanks for the help ladies... im just getting really nervous now... my first contact visit ever.... OMG !!!:D:kiss:
MR.LARIOS WIFE 07-05-2009, 11:39 PM i was just wondering is there a way 2 find out if anyone other then me is visiting my husband! can anyone tell me thankz ladies appreciate you queens:thumbsup::p
Butrfly420 07-05-2009, 11:48 PM WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I am SO super excited for you sweetie. :D:D:D:D
Ok...now lets see if I can help with your questions. ;)
First off....the top...probably wont make it in. The straps are too skinny. They have to be 4 inches thick to be ok to wear.
Also...the black "scrubs" should be fine to wear. Just as long as they are not skin tight....they should be fine
The ID that you were approved with is the ID you should bring with you. If you have moved and your address has changed since then...you can still bring your current ID...they will just ask you to update your visiting application before you go in. You will still be able to go in for visit...its just to update your information in the computer. ALTHOUGH...if ANYTHING has happened between the time you were first approved and now...like getting arrested or anything like that...you must list it. When they do updates they still run a back ground check so do as you did the first time. The only difference is HE wont have to sign the back of the application like he did before.
Lastly...his information should have followed him to PVSP when he transferred...but of course there is the possibility that it didnt. Unfortunately there is no way of finding out. You can call the visiting department BUT the chances of them telling you is kind of slim :( Which really sucks.
I hope this helps a little sweetie. I hope you have a great visit and I should see you next weekend :D

Butrfly420 07-05-2009, 11:50 PM Unfortunately no...there really isnt any way of finding that out. :(
What HE can do is request to have his approved visitors sent to him and he can send that to you...but there really isnt any way to know if another person is actually visiting.
I am sorry sweetie

You buy the photo ducats from the first CO when you walk into the processing room. They are $2 each, and they can only be bought with $1, $5, or $10 bills. And you have to have the exact amount, they won't give you change.

thanks for answering my question....
now do we sign up for a certain time during the visit or is it first come first serve? how does that work?
Butrfly420 07-07-2009, 08:00 AM I am not sure how it works on "C" yard, but on "A" yard it depends on how busy it is. When its not busy..we can just go right up to the porter and take a picture...if it is busy than we have to put our name on the list and the porter comes and tells us its our turn. :o

marcswifey 07-07-2009, 09:37 AM Hiz1nOnly- On "C" yard you just basically go up to the porter with your ducat and take your picture. It is best to do it as early as possible becasue if the visiting room is real busy they run out of paper to print the pictures out on. After you take your picture the co at the desk will let make an announcement about any who took pictures to come up to the desk. Either you or your man can go get them. Hope this helps and have a great visit.
HiZ1n0nLy 07-08-2009, 02:15 PM if i were to plan to visit on a sat.... what time am i allowed to park my car and wait in the car line? what time do people usually start? i wanna get there early enough but i dont want to be the first cuz i dont know where to start the line and i dont want to park in the wrong spot and end up in the back... lol...
Butrfly420 07-08-2009, 02:33 PM Some people get there as early as Friday night...and sleep in there car, which is always an option but that is totally up to you. If you didnt want to get there that early...then when I get there about 5 a.m. Get some sleep until the officer comes out at 7:30 or so to hand out passes.
I dont know if anyone will be out there to start the line if you get there Friday morning...but the car line usually starts on the southwest side (outside the prison) next to the Pleasant Valley sign

I just found this site, and boy what a relief to know there are other people going through the same problems and losses. My son has just been moved to PVSP this last month. I was trying to find out about the visiting. Do I understand that I can get to the prison at 7:30 and wait in my car until a guard gives me a pass. Then I will be able to leave and come back after 10:00 to wait to be called for a visit. Is this correct? How hard is it to make an appointment to see him for the eariler visit?
Thanks
:)
HiZ1n0nLy 07-08-2009, 10:58 PM so i lost my license (just the physical card, not the right to drive) will they let me in? i have my military id... and a slip from the dmv when i changed addresses from not that long ago.... will they still let me go thru the gate? everything is legit... registration and insurance and everything... im just scared i wont make it to the dmv tomorrow and all dmv's around me will be closed friday.... what can i do?
Butrfly420 07-08-2009, 11:13 PM Welcome to the PVSP forum sweetie. We are glad you found us also :)
About the visiting, if you do not have an appointment, than you can get in the car line that waits outside the prison. The guard usually comes out to hand out the non appointment passes around 7:30 or so. Sometimes later...it just really depends. You can get there right at 7:30 or you can get there earlier or later. Once you get your non appointment pass...you will have time to leave the prison grounds and maybe go get some breakfast or something. The guard starts calling the non appointment passes around 10:00 in groups of 20. So I would make sure and get back to the prison around 9:30 or so...just to make sure you dont miss your group number.
The appointment line can be a real pain to get through on...but it does make it nice to have an appointment. You can plan out your trip better because you know what time you are going to be called in for processing. The trick to getting through on the line is just hang up and redial...over and over and over. Patience and persistence are also key :o
I hope this helps....if you have any more questions, do not be shy to ask...we are all here to help and support

Butrfly420 07-08-2009, 11:16 PM I think your military ID should be ok to use...BUT I would definitely call the visiting Sgt and ask just to be sure. Hopefully you will be able to make it down to the DMV tomorrow that way you can get everything squared away.
Here is the number for the visiting Sgt. just in case you :
(559) 935-4900 ext. 5712

Butrfly420 07-09-2009, 08:43 PM Ok...so my daughter has been asking and asking and asking if we can take one of her very close friends to visit with us to meet "A". Now I have always told her that some people (such as her friends parents) may not be comfortable with the idea of letting someone - other than them - take there daughter to a prison to meet someone they dont even know. Totally understandable. Well..it just so happens...while my daughter was over at this friends house last night...she decided to go ahead and ask her friends mother anyways. To my surprise...her mom was fine with it. She says she knows that her daughter will be safe...that "A" and I wont let anyone talk to her and we will be right by her side the whole time. Which is all true....so she is letting her go with us. So of course "C" is super excited.
Now to my question: I know that I can get the form from the visiting department to have the mother fill out and notarize and I know I have to have her original birth certificate. But my question is...do you think there will be any problems with them letting her go in with me since they are NOT in ANY relation at all and the mother wont be there??? I was just thinking about it and wanted to know if anyone has ever brought someone else's child to visit that wasnt related to the inmate in any way?
Thoughts please :D
Wow...that was a long post...LOL sorry :o

Wow...that was a long post...LOL sorry :oWell from what I know there are no stipulations on the from that indicate that the minor has to be accomapnied by a relative. With the mother notarizing her signature that she is allowing the child in, means that she is obviously okay with whomever is taking the child in. So I'm pretty sure you will be okay.
Butrfly420 07-10-2009, 10:13 PM Ok cool...I hope everything goes ok. She (the friends mom) was saying that she has an uncle that is at Corcoran and they had some issue with her daughter going with her aunt because it was not her immediate mother. Or something like that...so it got me wondering. When I go back to visit, I am going to pick up a couple of those forms and maybe talk to the visiting Sgt and see what we are facing. :D I think its really cool that she is even letting me take her daughter..."C" is so excited :p

negretelove 07-16-2009, 08:12 PM i just wanted to mention that as of 7-16-09 both A and B yard are on total lockdown so if you have appointments to visit on C and D yard be there early because the processing should go quicker.
Now i do want to say that i hope both A and B are off lockdown before the weekend because we all neeed our visits :)
HiZ1n0nLy 07-17-2009, 12:55 PM so i sent the visiting form to the prison in the same envelope as a letter to my man. he just called and said the mail room didnt pull it out like they should and he sent it to the visiting dept. will they accept it? should i send another one directly to the visiting dept.?
Butrfly420 07-17-2009, 01:00 PM They didnt take it out?? Oh my goodness....I am sure he sent it, but maybe just to be safe I would send another one and put "Visiting Application Included" on the front of the envelope and highligh it :o

i did that i wrote it in a big black sharpie and put stars next to it so they couldnt miss it... but they still didnt take it out... he sent it with a little note but im scared they wont take it cuz i was reading the title 15 and it says it cant come directly from the inmate. so i wanna send another one but do you know if there is an address i can send it to directly to the visiting dept? im trying to call but the operator's line isnt picking up....
Butrfly420 07-17-2009, 01:56 PM Try calling the visiting Sgt directly. (559) 935-4900, when the recording comes on press ext. 5712 and that will take you to the Sgt. He would be the best person to ask I think

HiZ1n0nLy 07-19-2009, 10:06 PM my man just called and said that he heard from his friend that his friends family member has been waiting for 7 months for an approval.... now i dont know its because they were denied and had to re-apply but can they really take that long to approve someone? im just tripping out cuz they had 2 fat stacks of papers and im scared its gonna take that long... any way i can speed it up...

i have never heard of it taking 7 months to get approved...the inmate needs to do some research on that and maybe a 602.
it usually (unless you have a long record) takes 3-6 weeks for approval. now with the short staff i would give them 8-10 weeks before i start making a fuss. i know that if they can find you in the data base it will go much quicker.
stay positive girl...you will see your man soon!!!
negretelove 07-20-2009, 10:20 AM i spoke with 2 COs and a LT they all confirmed grey is an acceptable color (again)! any shade and material......but always take a change of clothes with you cause you never know when this is going to change....again
Butrfly420 07-20-2009, 12:46 PM I unfortunately have heard of it taking a long time to get approved..months...BUT it does not happen to often. A friend of mine just sent in her application to see "A"...and that was about 2 weeks ago, so as soon as I hear how long it takes to get that approval...I will let you know as well sweetie. Also...there really isnt any way to speed up the process...but I would keep checking to see. Like in a couple of weeks start calling. It never hurts to try and find out ;)

my man told me to stalk to visiting department... if they decide to accept the application the mail room didnt take out from his last letter then they are gonna have 2 applications floating around.... i hope that it ups the speed and not slow it down... i send one directly to the visiting dept cuz i was reading the title 15 and it said that they wont accept a form directly from the inmate... but it was the mail rooms fault for not taking it out... oh well.... ill see him when the time comes.... hopefully soon.... i miss him....

Hi,
Just started with Prison Talk. So helpful to have people to talk too. My son, Matt. is doing 15 years for robbery and has recently been transferred to PVSP. Have not been able to see him for the last year as we live out of state. Have only been able to communicate thru letters before as the other prison did not allow him to make phone calls. I have been able to finally get an appointment to see him for the weekend of the 1st of August. What i would like to know is if you are able to get onto the grounds before your visiting time and if you will need to wait in a long line of cars before you get into the facility. Some of the prisons only allow you to enter at a certain time and everyone has to stay in their cars. My son is closed A custody and I am afraid if I don't get there early he will have to stay for his count. Also are sandals allowed.
Thanks
Myna
cblueiis 07-24-2009, 03:21 PM I too am new here but have had good experiences so far. It is so very nice to have people to connect with who are going through similar ordeals. I don't have the answer for you but wish you well....
Butrfly420 07-24-2009, 04:05 PM Welcome to the PVSP forum sweetie. We are glad you found us. :o
Since you have an appointment you will not have to wait in a car line. You may enter the grounds at 7:30 and start waiting in the appointment line. There will be 2 lines - an appointment line and a non appointment line. The appointment line will be to your left (if you are facing the processing center) If you are not sure, you can always ask someone...there are many helpful ladies out there.
PVSP is usually pretty good with the appointments, sometimes they run early...but most times they are on time. There are moments where something happens, like the computers go down or new staff is being trained and that might delay the processing a little, but it doesnt happen all that often thank goodness ;)
And since your son is closed A you will need to get in there before 11. That is count time and if you are not in the visiting room before than you will have to wait at least of couple of hours for count to clear. :( But since you have an appointment...you should be all good
I hope this helps a little sweetie...please do not be shy about asking questions. We have wonderful ladies here that are so very helpful. Welcome again :D

Luv4MP 07-29-2009, 10:36 AM Good morning ladies, Ms. Butrfly curious re visiting you refer to tickets what would they take into consideration? and they won't let you visit? and also I was wondering or if you can refer me to what thread to read re visiting what are the rules for contact visits, i.e. you can hold hands, hug? its been a year not seeing my loved one its going to be so hard not to jump on him LOL no I'm kidding I will maintain I will just be so happy to touch his face and look into his eyes.
Butrfly420 07-29-2009, 11:05 AM Hey sweetie. I moved your post to the Visitng Q&A thread, so there is a lot of helpful info here, but let me see what I can help answer for you as well ;)
In regards to the tickets: If you are already approved, than you are fine...BUT what they look for our Failure to Appears (FTA) on your driving record or warrants due to FTA's and not paying them. Then you will be denied if you update your application (which you dont have to do for 2 years) or if you are a new visitor applying. If you just have traffic tickets...but no FTA's, than you will be fine
The rules for visiting is one brief hug and kiss at the beginning and end of each visit. You may hold hands, but that would be all. Some yards are more relaxed than others...but never take that chance. PVSP will terminate visits quick and for 30 days the first time. They do not mess around there
WOW...after not seeing him for a year that is so exciting!!! I dont blame you for wanting to pounce on him sweetie....that would hard not to do for me also
Have a great visit sweetie :D

HiZ1n0nLy 08-01-2009, 01:42 AM ok tengo otra pregunta !!!!!!!!!! (another question :D) say i roll up to guard shack thing to pick up my pass for visiting.. if its just me in the car but i request two passes.. will they give it to me?! i know its kinda random but im jus trying to plan something out and i wanna know in which order to do things... so yeah... thanks ladies !!!!!
Butrfly420 08-01-2009, 07:09 AM I know when you ask the guard after he starts calling for appointments for more than one pass it is ok...but I have never done it while in the actual car line. But I would assume it would be ok as well

it all depends on the CO handing out the passes
HiZ1n0nLy 08-17-2009, 03:29 PM i have a 9:30 appointment this weekend.... what time should i arrive at the prison?! do i just get my pass from the guard when he comes out to call out the groups?! or do i have to wait in the car line in the morning no matter what?!
LoveMyJ's 08-17-2009, 05:14 PM I usually try to get there about 30 minutes before my scheduled appt. I was given this information when I first inquired about it. They say to get there early just in case they are running ahead of schedule and call you in early. So plan on getting there about 9ish. You will have to wait until the CO comes out and calls for 9:30 appts. Once he does you will proceed to processing where you will be given your pass once you get in the door. Then you just fill it out right there at the counter where you first check in and get photo ducats. There will no longer be a car line at that time so you can just drive right in and park. Just make sure you are paying attention because sometimes the CO won't walk out to where everyone is waiting. He sometimes will just yell out from the doorway. Hope this answers your questions chica!!
I'm going to try to get my ad/seg appt @ 10:00 that way I can chat with you for a few before I head in!!

qwerty 08-20-2009, 01:18 PM Hey PV folks -- it's been a while since I visited, so I was just wondering with the 100 degree weather and all... do they let you wear sleeveless tops these days?
I remember for a while they would as long as the straps were wide (no spaghetti straps), but then I heard they they stopped allowing even those.
WHat's the latest as far as colors? Is dark grey ok?
Thanks!

you can wear sleevless but they have to be at least "four fingers length wide" thats what a CO told me.
grey of any shade is okay as of now...they are tripping on light beige shirts for some reason they say it is too close to white
but as you already know bring changes of clothes because it is always something new with them
biological mom 08-20-2009, 04:24 PM Ha Ha Make sure you bran does not show an out line.. They will make you change
Have a nice visit

biological mom 08-20-2009, 04:25 PM sorry Bra Show an out line.
negretelove 08-20-2009, 06:23 PM thank you bio mom..no lines panty or bra can be seen. i was told to change my shirt because it was too thin. the CO even said he could not see though it and it was not skin tight but it was too thin?!?!?! always something
patriciaparks 08-22-2009, 10:37 AM if you were already approved in san quentin and they were moved to another prison do you have to be approved again
marcswifey 08-22-2009, 11:41 AM Remember to do the raise your arms. so shirt is long enough and the bend down and touch toes test to make sure you are not showing anything becasue they will make you change for these reasons too.
Butrfly420 08-22-2009, 07:19 PM His information should follow him when he transfers...although it has happened that it doesnt and you will need to reapply. You can try calling the visiting Sgt and asking if you are on the list...but he may not disclose that information. It really depends. It doesnt happen that often that the information doesnt follow, but it has happened.

patriciaparks- in the mean time i would ask him to send you a form anyways.... better safe than sorry... i went out there only for them to tell me that his info didnt transferred and was denied my visit.... it didnt take long to get re-aprroved but thats just me....
nitamac 08-25-2009, 01:35 PM I was wondering if anyone was able to get through the appt line yesterday or today. I also wanted to ask if they are running visits for
Monday Sept 7 labor day
LoveMyJ's 08-25-2009, 01:45 PM I do know that some were able to get through yesterday. But I'm not sure as to why the appt line is closed today. Hopefully they will go ahead and take appts on Thurs. to make up for it. As for Monday Sept. 7th, yes they are allowing visits. Hopefully you will be able to get through and get your visits. Good luck! :)

Butrfly420 08-25-2009, 04:50 PM they should automatically get it off...but it depends on what there job is. If its school..they will get it off for sure...if its in the kitchen...they may have to request it off.

Manderly 08-29-2009, 05:51 AM HI CRST...I have some members of my family that have felony convictions from years ago so I called and asked what to do. My son is currently in Wasco Reception but the information should still be the same. They said to write a letter to the warden of the prison respectively asking permission to see the inmate, stating what the felony was for and how long ago. He said a person would have to do the letter to the warden for each prison because although visitation approval follows the inmate, warden permission does not. I just looked up online for the warden's name. Hope this helps.
chiefsgirl 08-31-2009, 04:32 AM Does anyone know if anything happen in A4 block? I went to visit my man on Saturday 8/29/09 and when i was checking in the c/o told me that my man has modified contact. So i did not get to see him that day. I was very disappointed, and frustrated because i waited since 9am and went in at 2pm so i was only going to see him for an hour which was all good because i was coming back on Sunday at 3am to get in line and get a pass for 10am but i guess it was not meant to be :( ....Can anyone tell me what that means modified contact? Please if anyone knows give me the rundown on that, i have 3 appts for labor day weekend so i don't know if i will be going to pvsp to visit if he can't get visits. Help! desparate to find out. One thing i did talk to him thursday, and everything was good. he was happy because i was going to go see him...

Luv4MP 09-01-2009, 03:07 PM OK I have one more question that I was thinking about...its been a year since I sent out visiting form to get approved, I actually sent 2 one in 6/08 and the other one in 8/08, do I have to re-submit another form? or who can I contact at PVSP?
Thank you for the info!:D

if it needs to be updated and you are already approved they will give you an application in the processing center to fill out and still alllow you to visit.
they update every 24 months...but you may have to update because they recently updated the computer system and were requesting everyone to update.

HiZ1n0nLy 09-02-2009, 01:53 AM I was wondering if anyone can tell me if we need to bring 2 dollar bills for pictures or do we need 2 dollars in quarters?
bills only from what i remember exact change.... :D
Butrfly420 09-02-2009, 09:26 AM Yes...dollar bills ONLY...not even the dollar coins are accepted. And it must be exact change....they will not provide change. :(
nitamac 09-02-2009, 12:35 PM Thank you Butrfly420 and Hiz1nonly for answering my question.:)
So do you think it's going to be really packed visiting this Saturday?
I was unable to get an appointment. I haven't seen my son for 3 months
and it would be nice to be able to get in by or before 1:00. What time should I be there in line? I use to visit on Fridays only it was so nice not to wait in a line for everything.
negretelove 09-02-2009, 03:32 PM photo ducats can only be purchased with paper money in exact change so $1 $5 $10 $20 but it has to be exact.
it is hard to say if it will be crowded this weekend because Byard just got off lockdown.....i think saturday will be a mess but sunday and monday should be smooth....that seems to be how it works out on three day weekends! but do not hold me to it :o
nitamac 09-02-2009, 04:43 PM I think your going to be right about Saturday... oh well we gotta do what we gotta do to see our loved ones:)

by october there will be a big difference in the amount of people:thumbsup:
lasenora 09-04-2009, 12:36 PM Went to visit Saturday at Pvsp took 4 hours to get in, does anyone know what the deal is over there? It is almost impossible to get an appointment, thinking some power trips or what.
lasenora 09-04-2009, 12:44 PM additional question - does this go for those black skinny jeans?
Well from my expierence they have a dress code but they make decisions based on what staff is on and even the type of mood they are in. They will one day say this is fine and the next not, They are not consistent which opens thoughts to their insecurity power trips, most of the staff must have a very low self-esteem and try to raise it at the consequence of women and children. I pity them. :blah:
Luv4MP 09-04-2009, 12:50 PM what time did you get there? so what time did you finally get in at? and visits are over at 3?

Luv4MP 09-04-2009, 12:51 PM I hear you...I'm keeping my fingers crossed that with what I wear they say ok with no problems but I am taking the extra change of clothes just in case!

Butrfly420 09-04-2009, 02:35 PM The slow processing that weekend is actually not a normal thing. They are usually more on time with appointments and getting everyone processed...so that weekend was very abnormal
Visits are over at 3...but they stop processing people at 2
what time did you get there? so what time did you finally get in at? and visits are over at 3?
Butrfly420 09-04-2009, 02:39 PM Definitely a good idea sweetie...bring a couple changes of clothes...just in case...you never know and always want to be prepared. They have a change of clothes at the Friends Outside trailer...but they dont have the best selection :o

im not sure about the sandals cuz ive never worn them there...
are you talking about the car line when you are talking about starting a line? if thats the case... you would park on the same side of the road as the prison on the right side of the entrance... there is a electrical box with a post next to it... so the prison would be on ur right... you would have to make a uturn.... hopefully that made sense.... but remember you cant be on prison grounds until after 7:30am !!! and youll see the signs for visiting parking.. as for the line for processing youre gonna see people lining up for appointments.... but if you have no appointment you dont really have a need to be waiting in line until like maybe 9:30....
SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG !!!!!
YOUR FIRST VISIT?!?!?! AWW GIRL ENJOY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND BE SURE TO TELL US HOW IT GOES !!!
HiZ1n0nLy 09-04-2009, 04:24 PM Hi I wanted to ask how long does it take you to get their? you are coming from LA right?

Luv4MP 09-04-2009, 05:22 PM Yeah I'm coming from LA and yep HiZ1n0nLy is correct, the mapquest estimated it will take me 3 hours n 9 min so lets see how I do

Luv4MP 09-04-2009, 05:31 PM oops yes I meant the car line...ok thank you I will print this out and take with me. ok but wait now i'm confused and need some clarification, sorry ladies! this line (for non-appts) starts on the road, then at 7:30 drive into the entrance of prison and that's when officers give me pass and then I will have to come back at around 9:30 to wait and be called? is this correct?

DONT BE SORRY !!! THATS WHAT WE ARE HERE FOR.... =)
so you wait in the car line and then around 7:30 the guard will come out and you drive up to the shack and get a pass.... they'll tell you to come back at 10... id rather be there like at 9:30 incase they call non appt early (which they have never done to me but you never know) then you can either stay there and change at the friends outside trailor or you can leave and go to the gas station and change and come back... then after the 10am appointments are called they will start calling out pass numbers....
god i feel like im confusing you... I HOPE NOT
Luv4MP 09-04-2009, 05:53 PM otay! yes now I understand, I get it  thank you very much - enjoy your weekend/visits - we let you know on Tuesday how it went!

HiZ1n0nLy 09-07-2009, 12:24 PM question..... when they check your background to get approved... they just check your criminal background right?! i have a friend who is trying to get approved to visit her penpal and she is scared they are going to hate on her cuz she has been in drug treatment program twice.... they cant or wont do that right?!
Butrfly420 09-07-2009, 11:06 PM If she has any type of arrests, even if she was only being held for a short amount of time, than they will see that. If she was just in a drug program and never got arrested or went to court or doesnt have any 'court' documents regarding the drug treatment program, than she should be fine, but like I always say, it is better to call the visiting Lt and ask just to be sure

negretelove 09-09-2009, 09:09 PM it is a criminal background check that includes all arrests whether or not convicted, traffic tickets, and juvi record

az family 09-16-2009, 01:24 PM Ladies, I have a question on the type of tshirts my boys can wear. Can they wear blue with graphics on it,like quicksilver or spongebob? Or is blue in any form not allowed? I was told that children that didnt reach the check in counter were not held to the dress code(the lady officer told me that)so could my son wear his black chucks? Also, what type of toys do they allow in?Would a spiderman action figure be allowed?

Well, I'm not exactly sure about the little ones not being held to the dress code so you might want to wait for one of the other ladies to help you with an answer to that one.
But as far as the toys go...........I was specifically told that any toys allowed are more for the babies/infants. They have to be a clear toy such as a rattle/teething ring. Something to that nature.
So glad that you were able to get your appt!! It's always so much easier when you have an appt. Even if it is at 10 o'clock. Have a great visit and be sure and let us know how it went!!

Yeah, I thought it was strange advice from a c.o. to give and its why I came to the pros! I have learned soooo much from all the info the pto family posts! I will just stick to black for our entire family. Thanks!
negretelove 09-17-2009, 12:28 AM
Ladies, I have a question on the type of tshirts my boys can wear. Can they wear blue with graphics on it,like quicksilver or spongebob? Or is blue in any form not allowed? blue is a very iffy color i would stick with reds, black, and def put them in something with graphics
I was told that children that didnt reach the check in counter were not held to the dress code(the lady officer told me that) this is a "rule" but PVSP hardly ever follows it i have seen a 9 month old have to change because the mom had her in blue denim pants...you are better off sticking to the dress code for everyone
so could my son wear his black chucks? no black and white chucks for anyone
Also, what type of toys do they allow in?
Would a spiderman action figure be allowed? like LoveMyJs said that rule is for infants and it has to be a solid toy....they do have coloring books and games in the visiting room
hope this helps
caspernplaygirl 09-21-2009, 03:02 AM Can we wear polo shirts or is that a no-no? I have never visted it will be my first time once I get approved to go visit my man. Can we wear sandals? I have some cute ones that have fake diamonds on them, they have back strap to them. Are they strict against hair extensions or fake nails? anything like that. Does it matter if we have visible tattoos? I know the pants aren't suppose to be tight so like what kinds of pants do you guys wear because i have no clue, i know i can't wear my cute yoga style pants. can we go in conservative dress clothes? like a shiny black top? Are we allowed to have a purse? do we have to leave cell phones in our car?
Butrfly420 09-21-2009, 10:08 AM Hey sweetie...let me see if I can help with some of your questions
Can we wear polo shirts or is that a no-no? Polo shirts are fine to wear. Just as long as its not the same color as the inmates or the c/o's.
I have never visted it will be my first time once I get approved to go visit my man. Can we wear sandals? Sandels are fine...they dont have to have a back strap on them. As long as they do not resemble shower shoes (plastic flip flops) than you should be fine. They dont really trip on the jewels..just as long as it doesnt have to many of them. I think that is the only thing.
I have some cute ones that have fake diamonds on them, they have back strap to them. Are they strict against hair extensions or fake nails? I am not sure about the hair extentions...but the fake nails are no problem. Many of the ladies wear them and never have an issue. I would call the visiting dept and double check on the hair extentions though.
anything like that. Does it matter if we have visible tattoos? Visible tattoos are fine...I have lots that show every weekend.
I know the pants aren't suppose to be tight so like what kinds of pants do you guys wear because i have no clue, i know i can't wear my cute yoga style pants. can we go in conservative dress clothes? like a shiny black top? I wear capri's and black pants. Be careful about them being "form fitting"...they are very strict about that. And the tops being too low cut or too tight around the chest area. Always bring extra clothes...just in case. I would always encourage you to wear all black the first visit, that way you can get a feel as to what they allow and dont.
Are we allowed to have a purse? do we have to leave cell phones in our car? All purses and cell phones must be left in the car durning visit...they are not allowed inside.
HiZ1n0nLy 09-21-2009, 10:45 AM I just called visiting.... Hair extentions are not allowed....

cindyes89 10-10-2009, 08:31 PM Hi everyone, I am new to this site so I really need help with getting some info. My fiancee was just transferred yesterday(friday) to Pleasant Valley Prison. I really want to visit him, I know he is classified and he has already been able to make calls, but I can visit him tomorrow (sunday)??
If I can visit, do I need an appointment??

Hello Cindyes89 and welcome to PTO/PVSP
if he is off orientation and you are an approved visitor you should be able to visit tommorow(sunday). No you do not need an appointment. You can get a non-appointment pass....
some camp out in the carline starting as early as 3am and the CO comes out at about 7:30 to hand out passes
or
you can come on prison grounds around 8:30 and get a pass from the CO when he comes out to call for appointments.
cindyes89 10-10-2009, 08:43 PM how do I know if he is off orientation or not?? his calls wont get through so he cant let me know. He got there friday, so is it possible that he is off orientation already?? especially since he is classified already?? sorry for all the questions
negretelove 10-10-2009, 09:00 PM orientation lasts 14 days
cindyes89 10-10-2009, 09:05 PM oh ok. So i wont be able to visit him until in two weeks, he just got there on friday.
negretelove 10-10-2009, 09:41 PM oh ok. So i wont be able to visit him until in two weeks, he just got there on friday.
No visits or phone calls while on orientation (at least 14 days from arrival). Maybe he is having someone else call you?!?!
cindyes89 10-12-2009, 06:31 PM oh ok. Thank you soo much!! I really appreciate the info. One last question, I had already submitted a visiting form for when he was at DVI a prison 2 hours from where hes at now, I heard that I do not need to renew the form, is this correct??

Ideally the visiting approval should follow with his files but sometimes it gets held back.
I would call the visiting dept and verify that they have rec'd his file containing his visiting info. And that you are an approved visitor!
If they have not rec'd the info i would ask your loved one to send you another form.
So that is a yes with a double check;)

because there is alot of movement with inmates right now the inmates going out are getting visits before being transferred out and the inmates just coming in are getting visits (alot of newbies!)
also from about May/June until November there seems to be a higher number of visitors...once the fog rolls in there will not be as many visitors. ;)
It has been a challenge for everyone trying to get through the appointment line. just prepare your dialing fingers and go.....i have noticed appointments have been filled by Tuesday so keep that in mind :o

lostlove32 10-18-2009, 09:58 AM Question: When they check your id do they always check for warrants every time? Do they check for warrants anywhere in the state of Ca?
lostlove32 10-18-2009, 10:09 AM My boyfriend told me my visits were given back to me after being termited for a very loooooooooooong time. Like 4years long due to an arrest that happened at the prison. Well since I am no longer on probation I sent in my visitor application. Well I never received a response from PVSP. NOTHING. So he looked into the matter and they gave him paperwork saying I am approved. He wants me to visit but I have a feeling that I am going to be turned away. Just because his paperwork shows me as approved is that enough? Why have I never heard anything from the prison showing approved or denied? Who can I talk to there for confirmation before I make the 4 1/2hr drive for nothing. Thank you.

Have him send you the blue piece of paper that he recieved that shows you were approved and take it with you when you go. They dont tell us if we are approved, they will only tell them. You only get notified if you are not approved. You can call the visiting sargeant there, they might tell you --
Butrfly420 10-19-2009, 10:11 AM ANY flip flops that are made of rubber will not be allowed in. I was even wearing my velvet flip flops on Saturday and I was told they were looked to similar to the shower shoes that the inmates wear and not to wear them again.
Is it okay to wear Old Navy type flip flops to visit? i forget all my shoes at home.
Butrfly420 10-19-2009, 10:15 AM They do not do background checks at the computers while being processed into visiting. They ONLY times they do the background checks is when you are one: applying for visitation or two: renewing your application for any reason, ie: name change, address change or if its your regular 2 year update
Question: When they check your id do they always check for warrants every time? Do they check for warrants anywhere in the state of Ca?
Definitely have him send you the paper that he receieved showing that you are in fact approved. I am going to say that you should be all good though since he did ask and you are in fact able to visit...but just to be on the safe side...that is what I would do.
How exciting for you sweetie...4 years is a long time. Have a wonderful visit :D

Butrfly420 10-19-2009, 05:45 PM So I guess this means we can just wear hoodies with nothing underneath anymore

Ry's Baby Grl 10-20-2009, 08:25 PM Yes, You will need an original Birth certificate and a notorized letter from one of his parents stating that you have permission to bring him to PVSP, the name of the person he has permission to visit.. They have a form at PVSP that is specific, however as long as you are very specific it should be ok!
az family 10-21-2009, 01:13 PM Are there visits on new years day?
Ry's Baby Grl 10-21-2009, 01:47 PM Yes New Years Day is one of the 5 holiday's that are extra visiting days with Thanksgiving, Christmas, July 4th and Labor day..
I*Heart*Harry 10-21-2009, 03:40 PM Im moving out to Ca next month and am only bringing what I can fit in my car, so my big question is as Im not bringing alot of clothes, and the visiting info sticky doesnt give that much info on it, what do you generally wear? I dont want to show up and have them turn me away because Im dressed wrong! Are basic black pocket t-s, pants and converse shoes ok? I need ideas please :) thanks!!!
Butrfly420 10-21-2009, 04:55 PM Black anything is definitely the safest way to go....but Converse...not ok. The shoes the inmates wear look to much like Converse shoes...so they are funny about that.
Just make sure your clothes are not to form fitting...not to low cut (to where the clevage is showing) dont wear any rubber flip flops and sleeveless shirts have to be 4" in width. And always bring a few changes of clothes just to be safe.

Luv4MP 10-26-2009, 02:23 PM Good afternoon ladies, my question for the day: the appointments being set are for the weekend of 11/14? I always go without an appt but would like to try it - and also if I call I can only set up appt for myself, I can't set one up for a friend of mine?
Butrfly420 10-26-2009, 02:53 PM Today, tomorrow and Wednesday will be appointment for the weekend of the 7th and 8th. Then next Monday, they will take appointments for the 14th and 15th. So they are 2 weeks out. You can make an appointment for yourself and a friend...but not more than that.
I hope this helps sweetie. :D

Miss Daisy 10-28-2009, 10:21 PM OK so this will be my first time going i have read all the posts but i have not seen any thing pertaining to jewelry i mean i wear a couple bracelets and a anklet do they allow that stuff ? also a friend is going to leave me off and then go to friend outside to make sure i get thru i am way nervous cuz i dont have a clue what to wear yes i read that black is safe but all black? my appointment is at 8;30 what time should i be there ? i have read different times and this is only a couple questions i have so many lol can someone help
Butrfly420 10-28-2009, 10:58 PM Oh how exciting that this is your first visit sweetie....YAY!!!!!!! :D
When it comes to jewelry...try not to wear to much. They dont seem to fuss...but if its a lot...they might. Whatever you wear, just make sure you can take it off and put it in the processing bucket with your shoes and what not. That way they can see it and not trip
Your friend can drop you off...but I am not sure if they can stay at the Friends Outside and wait for you to be processed in. I am under the impression that they must be an approved visitor in order to wait there for any length of time. I am not positive on this. I know that if you have an 8:30 appointment he/she should be able to wait in the parking lot for a good amount of time. If you are not back out in about 30 minutes...than they dont have to wait any longer...you will be all good.
Black, black and black. Especially for your first visit. Its the safest and also you can get a feel for what others are wearing and what they fuss over and dont fuss over. So I would always encourage the first visit to be in depressing black. :(
If you have an 8:30 appointment...I would get there about 8:00. There will be the appointment line and the non appointment line. You will wait in the appointment line until they call your appointment. Try and not be late though...they are suppose to allow you to be no more than 15 minutes late...but sometimes they can be really fussy about that and if you are to late...they might make you get a non appointment pass. So definitely get there early. :o
I hope this helps sweetie...dont be shy...ask all the questions you need. We are all here to help :D

Miss Daisy 10-29-2009, 09:26 AM OK so you are saying that he can wait in the car? and i should be in line no later then 8;00? no my friend was only going to stay at friends till he feels i got in OK but if he can stay in the car for a while then that is good and would you happen to know if there is anything in town that he can go like a movie or something?and thank you SOOOO much for you help
Butrfly420 10-29-2009, 10:19 AM Anytime sweetie. I am glad I can help :D
Yes...your friend can wait in the car if he choses to. I would say he should give you about 30 minutes to make sure you are all processed in and dont have to change.
As long as you get there BEFORE 8:30, you will be fine. They will start calling 8:30 appointments about 8:35 - 8:40, so definitely try not to be late.
There really isnt a lot going on Coalinga...I dont even know if they have a movie theater or not? I would think so...but I am not sure. I know Hanford is the next closest city (about 20 min) and it has more to do, like movies, shopping...etc. So that might be an option for your friend as well.

Coalinga does have a movie theater but doesnt open till late, McD's for a paper and coffee but waiting in the freinds is fine and u dont have to be an approved visitor to wait there. Hanford has all kinds of stuff but is an hour away
Ry's Baby Grl 10-30-2009, 09:41 AM They have quarter and dollar change machines.. They have always been full.. So no need on making an extra trip to the bank for quarters..
You need regular dollar bills if you want to buy photo duckets.. They are picky like that.. Hope that helps:)

LovemakesLight 10-30-2009, 09:57 AM No guarantees on that dark grey hoodie. Recently they've been allowing various shades of grey, but it's still up in the air and highly
dependent on the particular CO approving your outfit. Make sure whatever shirt you are wearing underneath is appropriate and can be worn in, bc they will make you take your hoodie off and put it in the bin w your shoes/jewelry
Miss Daisy 10-30-2009, 01:05 PM no it's not a hoodie it's just a pull over shirt but i guess i will give it up but thanks
Butrfly420 10-30-2009, 02:25 PM Even though its not a hoodie...hoodies are ok to wear....just wear a shirt underneath that will meet approval also. The iffy part is the gray color. Sometimes its ok to wear...other times its not...so that would be the only thing
no it's not a hoodie it's just a pull over shirt but i guess i will give it up but thanks
Miss Daisy 10-30-2009, 03:56 PM OK so here's the deal i bought a long sleeve purple sweater and got it big so nothing reveling and a black and white blouse that is high enough and if i wear that one i am going to wear a shirt under it so you cant see thru it one of those should do i hope i think it will be to hot for a sweater but i will take it anyway but thank you all for the help now if i can only get some sleep lol
Ry's Baby Grl 10-30-2009, 04:48 PM A sweater is ALWAYS a good idea even in the summer, sometime the visiting room gets really chilly! I always bring one! :p Hope you have a GREAT weekend with your loved one! I wish I was going :(

Miss Daisy 10-30-2009, 06:00 PM so you think i should wear the sweater instead of the b/w blouse and please tell me that the vending machines take the gold coin dollars cuz i got a few and i did read that you cant go this weekend i am sorry but i am sure you will see him soon take care and thanks so much for the help
Ry's Baby Grl 10-30-2009, 07:50 PM If it were me, I would layer... Wear the shirt/blouse and take the sweater. It's always easier to have the sweater just in case, but you also don't want to be too hot! The vending machines do take the gold dollars and the machines give them to you in processing which is nice less weight for your clear bag..
Ya, I'll miss PV this wknd, but I'll be back really soon! Having my Godson this wknd will keep me busy and I'll have tons of pics to send to my Honey! Have a great visit! You are SO welcome, anytime!!:D

Luv4MP 11-02-2009, 03:09 PM Good afternoon ladies, I was just wondering if with an 8:45 appt. do they cut off your visit earlier or they still let you stay until 3:00?

as far as i know if the room isnt over crowded (which from what i hear doesnt happen alot) you can stay until 3
Butrfly420 11-02-2009, 03:34 PM HiZ1n0nLy is correct...they rarely terminate visits for overcrowding. In the last 2 1/2 years...I have only heard of them doing it ONE time and that was on C yard. But otherwise...they never do it. Its really nice :D
Luv4MP 11-02-2009, 04:51 PM Thank you ladies - will be looking forward to that visit then ;)

light at end 11-03-2009, 04:43 PM Sorry for not being able to get through to make an apt. to visit. There really isn't anything you can do about the appointments being filled by the time you get through. It's just how it is, there are tons of other people calling also to try to get an apt. and once they are full they are full. Have you tried calling from your home and cell phone at the same time? Can you get a friend or family member to also try to call for you?

Thank you for answering me. ya i have 3 phone and 2 people. I did get a 945 appointment ! but it took almost 4 hrs guess thats how it is . makes u think if this is how they treat you how do they treat the inmates. they really need to change the system. it doesnt work in many ways thanks again for info and tring
Butrfly420 11-04-2009, 01:35 PM Oh sweetie..I feel your pain. It is so frustrating to call the appointment line....but unfortunately it is the only way to get an appointment
You can always talk to the IFC representitive on the yard that you visit and see what she/he says as far as bringing up some sort of new procedure for the appointment line. That would really be my only suggestion as to how it can be changed.
HiZ1n0nLy 11-04-2009, 02:32 PM umm... kinda embarassing... whats the rule on bringing "feminine products" to visit? i know they have the machines in the bathroom but im scared they wont be stocked....
Butrfly420 11-04-2009, 03:02 PM No need to be embarrassed sweetie...we are all family and trust me...we all have to go through it at one time or another. :o
Unfortunately we are NOT allowed to bring in any feminine products to visit. We have to use the machines. :(
Talk about embarrassing...one time (not that long ago) I need a feminine product and the machine was empty  so I had to ask the guard, which was so super embarrassing..and he told me that I had to go to B yard to there bathroom and get it from there. So I went to B yard...and had to use there machine for the rest of vist...yea...TOTALLY embarrassing

Luv4MP 11-05-2009, 12:56 PM Good morning ladies, I hope you are all having a good week and getting ready for your visits! :) I was wondering is there any way an appt. set for the 14th can be confirmed? i had my friend call and set it up so I just want to make sure.
Butrfly420 11-05-2009, 01:00 PM I am not sure how effective it would be to call the visiting department and ask. You know how they can be  But she should have been given a confirmation number when she made the appointment. Definitely ask for that and take it with you

Adelita4Life 11-05-2009, 11:55 PM If I dont manage to get an appt and didnt show up early enough for the car line, if i should up at 1130 what time would i get in?
Does "A" yard get terminated for overcrowding and do they still open the patio?
What days is the visiting day for Thanksgiving will it be on the Thursday?
Butrfly420 11-06-2009, 08:38 AM If I dont manage to get an appt and didnt show up early enough for the car line, if i should up at 1130 what time would i get in? Hmm...it depends on how many people there are visiting. Sometimes you can get in pretty quickly, other times not. But I would say if you get there at 11:30, you will probably get in the visiting room about 1 at the latest. Just a guess though. :o
Does "A" yard get terminated for overcrowding and do they still open the patio? "A" does not terminate for overcrowding. We have been there for over 2 years and have never seen a termination for the room being to crowded. And the patio is still open to everyone
What days is the visiting day for Thanksgiving will it be on the Thursday?
Visiting on Thanksgiving will be on the actual day of Thanksgiving..so it will be November 26
I hope this helps with your questions sweetie. :D
Butrfly420 11-09-2009, 02:45 PM Just wanted to give everyone a heads up they will be taking Thanksgiving appointments next Monday - 11/16/09. I thought maybe they would be today...but not the case. Just wanted to let everyone know
Adelita4Life 11-11-2009, 08:04 PM Im wanting to take the lil ones and wondering about the patio, u say they open it but before on A yard they would leave it open all day but at other places they only did it at certain times, how is it now on A yard?
Since they dont regularly terminate for overcrowding do couples double up or is it not that full anymore be.c before when he was there before we would get terminated at least once monthly but allowed ppl to just have chairs without tables, how is it now?
Just lookin fwd to visiting soon...
Ry's Baby Grl 11-11-2009, 08:52 PM I've been visiting on "A" yard since March and they haven't terminated for overcrowding.. They keep the patio open until about 2:30 - 2:40 or so.. I haven't seen them double up either.. On the busier days they line the back of the visiting room w/chairs and small like "little tike" tables..
Hope that helps!! Have a great visit!

az family 11-17-2009, 09:28 AM hello ladies! I have a question..I want to wear a dress that comes rght to my knees but i am worried that they wll make me change,so are leggings allowed underneath? I dont mind the 13 hour one way drive,or waiting in the car line, its having to get through that inspection that makes me anxious! I am fully aware that im visiting a prison so i dress lke my grandmother and they seem to always find something to complain about! Then i get in the visiting room and see all kinds of tight clothes..so im just unsure what to wear now,id like to wear something different this time..
Butrfly420 11-17-2009, 10:29 AM Leggings should be fine...just make sure that your dress is at your knees. That is what they trip on. But the leggings should be just fine sweetie.

Hello I*HEART
The number for normal appointments are m-w 11-1 559-935-3780 no extension not sure the number for the others.
Hope this helps
Butrfly420 11-23-2009, 09:59 AM Yes...you can still visit even if you dont have an appointment. You will have to get an non appointment pass though...and you can either wait in the car line early in the morning for one or get one from the guard as he calls appointments. He brings non appointment passes at the same time to hand out. You will just have to wait in the non appointment line.
You are allowed to have 5 visitors at one time. Children/babies are considered one person...so keep that in mind also
how many can visit an inmate and if u dont have an visiting appointment can u still visit
Butrfly420 11-23-2009, 10:00 AM The number that Bio Mom posted is the correct number. There is no extention. And we are only allowed to call for appointments Mon-Wed 11-1
hi everyone, what time can you start calling to make an appt tomorrow? on the info guide it says 11-1 m-w but Im pretty sure I read on here 8 am? is there an extension or can someone give me the correct number? *so confused* thanks!!
biological mom 11-23-2009, 10:09 AM Yes...you can still visit even if you dont have an appointment. You will have to get an non appointment pass though...and you can either wait in the car line early in the morning for one or get one from the guard as he calls appointments. uh-oh why do you say that? is it bad to go w/o an appointment? I might have to, Im driving from Tn and promised him I would be there on the 5th no matter what! what a nightmare!! what am I getting myself into?? hehe
thanks butrfly - gonna try again today
another question, what do you carry your quarters or dollars in if you cant take in a purse, can you carry a clear bag? also is a vntg navy blue adidas
track suit acceptable or a black one with a pink stripe down the side ok, with a black t-shirt, ya think? sorry that was two questions.. or how about those asian china flat shoes? k, 3 sorry :D
Butrfly420 11-24-2009, 03:03 PM I hope you were able to make an appointment today sweetie.
As far as what to put your money in...a clear purse is the best...or even a ziplock bag....but it has to be completely clear. It cant have any designs on it...they are getting very picky about them now.
I would wear the black/pink sweatsuit...just to be safe. Dark blue might be good to go in but its an "ify" color...so to be safe..the black and pink
Also...the chinese maryjane shoes are all good. I have a pair...I love them...:D

Butrfly420 11-25-2009, 11:17 AM The purple sweater should be just fine. The grey pants are a little iffy. That is one color that you just dont know if it is ok to wear. One weekend it is...the next its not  I think the darker they are...the better.

desilef 11-28-2009, 03:07 PM Hi - I was planning to visit a friend in C5 tomorrow. The recorded message at the prison says Building 3, Facility C is on lockdown and no visits. Does C5 mean he's in Facility C, Building 5 and therefore visits are good? Thanks. I just don't know what the code numbers mean.
desilef 11-28-2009, 05:31 PM I just got an answer that C5 does mean Building 5, so I'll make the trip tomorrow. Wishing everyone else good visits.

Ri'sMom 12-04-2009, 01:53 PM Anyone know about bringing medication in? Daughter allergic to peanuts and given that there is probably peanuts dispensed in the vending machines, I would feel safer having her epi pen and bendryl handy in case she touches any surface that could have had peanuts on it. Do I have to get a doctors note? Can Bendryl (sealed closed) be brought in? Any other suggestions?
Butrfly420 12-04-2009, 04:00 PM If she has a prescription for anything...a doctors note stating that she needs her meds is good. You will not be able to bring in Bendryl without it though. Or another idea is to call the visiting Lt at (559) 395-4900 ext. 5712 and make sure with him. But I have seen people bring in there medication when it is presribed to them.

I*Heart*Harry 12-10-2009, 09:29 AM Do you think trying to go on xmas without an appt would be a waste of time? will it be extra crowded you think? thanks!
Butrfly420 12-10-2009, 09:50 AM Honestly...I am not sure what it will be like. Usually the holidays arent crowded for visit but on Thanksgiving it was pretty full...and processing was a nightmare. So I am not sure what to expect for Christmas. If you do go without an appointment...I would definitely try and get there early to get a good pass number.

last time i camped out i was there around 1:30-2am... and i was fine... someone pulled up behind me at like 4:30-5am... only reason why i was there so early is cuz i wanted to drive when i would be awake anyways... only thing i didnt like was my car "shaking" when people went speeding by... that and the a-holes who would honk their horn in the middle of the night just to mess with you..... im gonna be camping out this weekend too... really early so if you decide to go early... you wont be alone =) ENJOY YOUR VISIT !!!
Butrfly420 12-15-2009, 01:43 PM I was wondering the same thing because that would just seem so rediculous if we were limited to only bringing in 2 children at a time

LoveMyJ's 12-15-2009, 03:15 PM I was wondering the same thing because that would just seem so rediculous if we were limited to only bringing in 2 children at a time
Yeah that does seem kind of strange. But while we were waiting for the previous visitors for ad/seg to come out of the visiting room on Saturday, there was a girl there with 2 little ones. She was holding her little girl who had to be around a year old, and her son must have been like 4. Well, the little boy was active and the CO told her that if she couldn't handle her kids then she would have to leave.:eek: It's not like they were out of control or anything. He (the CO) must have just been in a bad mood. But we felt bad for her and tried to keep him preoccupied. So maybe they felt like that one girl with the 4 kids wouldn't be able to keep control of all of them. That's the only thing I could think of........although I still think that sucks!!
flor1432 12-16-2009, 04:22 AM I would like to know if my husband just arrived from wasco, ca to pleasant valley and he is in b yard does he have any visits or not? And if not till when will he be able to have a visit. I would really appreciate it if you can help me out.
Butrfly420 12-16-2009, 09:47 AM He should be able to have visits as long as he is not classified as a Bulldog. If he is classified as a Bulldog, they have been on lockdown for a while now. I am not sure how long they will continue to not be allowed visits...but I keep hoping that it wont last much longer.
I hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions sweetie. :o

Luv4MP 12-22-2009, 03:43 PM Hello Ladies, my question of the day - same clothing restrictions apply to children right? do you think a little boy can wear a fluffy brown jacket (like a ski jacket)? so excited taking my honey's son to visit for the first time, he hasn't seen him over a year (baby momma drama) but she finally said yes woot woot!! he's 4 years old :)
Butrfly420 12-22-2009, 04:45 PM Aww...that is wonderful sweetie. Yes...same restrictions apply. The brown ski jacket should be fine. The way it is suppose to be is if the kids are shorter than the countertop than they can wear blue jeans..but I have seen infants wearing blue jeans and the guards making them change
Always to be safe and not wear those.

sprungonathug 12-28-2009, 05:24 PM Hello to everyone, how's everyone doing?
So im due to have my son in less than 5 weeks and i want to be prepared for when my husband gets his visit back, to take the baby. Can someone please clarify the list of appoved items. Im sure I understand it but just want to make sure. Im more confused about the pre-mixed formula bottle and the prepackage baby wipes. Is there anything else that's not on the list that I can take in for the baby? I've been looking for a clear diaper bag but i havent found any. I think most likely I'll use one of those clear bags that come with the blankets. I'll be thankful for any advise. Since my other 2 kids are 15 & 10 I haven't had the experience of taking a baby into the prison. Again thanks for any suggestion/advised

Hi,
Were you asking about PVSP visiting. If yes then continue reading, Unless he is not allowed contact visits then you must get an appointment. It really is better if you actually have an appointment becuase you know that you will be able to visit and for a decent amount of time. For those who do not have an appointment such as myslef, this coming Saturday, I will have to wait until all the appointments have been processed to then be processed as a "walk in " that is also on a first come basis.. This starts at about 10:30am but does not mean your going in at that time..You may have to wait for a while before someone leaves and your can then be allowed in. Good luck and I hope I helped. Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. I will only answer what I know from my visiting but still suggest you always double check by calling PVSP.. Call 559-935-4900 x5715 or 5712 will get you to visiting and a live person so that you can ask questions. They will not make an appointment for you ..you still have to call back at the designated dates and times.
Bye

MsSouthstar 01-12-2010, 10:55 AM The bus info is called Touch of class bus tours they are going again on 1/24/10 and it is $60 the # is (323) 232-7466 its a nice bus I had a good time and I think next month they are going on Valentines day?
jupitersways 01-17-2010, 11:45 PM Can someone explain the appt line to me? The prison I'm currently visiting at we only need to make appts if it's visits behind glass. Does this prison require it for *ALL* types of visits? Is there a parking line anywhere? What is the visiting routine?
Butrfly420 01-18-2010, 12:29 PM Well you dont have to make an appointment for visits...but it is recommended. To make an appointment you can call the visiting appointment line at (559) 935-3780 on Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 11-1. The line will be busy...keep hitting the redial button.
If you are making an Ad/Seg appointment, then you will call (559) 935-4900 ext. 5715 (although I am not positive about the extention). You can call every day of the week before 11 or after 1, but they fill up fast so definitely call on Monday. This is for Ad/Seg ONLY.
If you dont want to make an appointment, you can always stay in the car line. They have one outside of the prison and there are some visitors that sleep all night out there..or get there very early in the morning. About 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. a guard will come out and start passing out non appointment passes. Then they will start calling non appointments about 10:00 a.m. after all the appointments have been called. You can also show up on the prison grounds after 7:30 and wait for the guard to come out and hand out non appointment passes. But that wont happen until 8:30 when the first set of appointments go in.
I hope this helps a little sweetie. Please let us know if you have any more questions. We are all here to help

Tezzyc 01-22-2010, 07:35 AM I have been looking at universitys in CA, trying to find one that I can afford with the student grant and student loan that I get from Sweden. Thatīs not easy, let me tell you!
Finally found one...California state University in Monterey Bay.
So Im thinking that I need to come to CA and check the school out and visit my friend at PVSP.
I have never been to the US before though, and I have never visited anyone in prison before either.
Im taking a flight to San Fransisco, I guess I need to rent a car there and drive to Monterey Bay, and then continue on to Coalinga. I donīt really know whatīs best?
I have no idea about where to stay either. i could sure use the help of a local!
I hace to stay at a not expensive place. Donīt have that much money to spend.
I really wish that I had known someone in that area that could help me.

Hi Tezzyc,
I maybe to answer some of your questions from the point of view of overseas visitors. I visit from Australia and I have been to PV yet I have visited other prisons in Ca and have had few real issues. you will find most of the local visitors really nice and willing to give you advice and especially see you through your first visiting experience.
You will need to apply to visit using your passport and they may put on file that you require an I-94 also which is the green visa they staple into your passport at immigration ( seeing your from a visa waiver country) you will also have to apply for a pre-approval to even get on the plane and you do this via the dept of homeland securites web (i think, i could check that for you if you like) and you will need the details of your passport, where you will be staying and a phone numbers, this approval is very important but you will still need to get through immigration at your port of entry also. If you ahve specific questions about this you can pm me
If you have to drive to monterey, then yes fly into SF and hire a car. There are many companies to use and vary alot in price but you can find a bargain so let me know if you need some more info.
Dont be nervous about visiting the US, ive been many many times and have always found people to be really helpful and friendly with us foreigners.
As for visiting a prison for the first time, again do some research and know the rules, ask the ladies here any questions as they always come through with great advice but dont be too nervous Im sure you will have a great visit.
Let me know if you need some more info:thumbsup:
Tezzyc 01-23-2010, 10:29 AM "you will also have to apply for a pre-approval to even get on the plane"?
What? Donīt I just buy the planetickets and go?
I have sent a form to PVSP and I have gotten approved for visiting.
Is there any cheap good places to stay at in Coalinga?
Is it a busy town, so that I have to book a room in advance, or can I count on finding an available room?
The best thing would be to find someone else thatīs going there at the same time so one could share a room, but I guess that wouldnīt be easy.
A 15 hour flight, 9 hours of time difference, bordercontrol in US with fingerprints and "naked scanning", finding a rental car, drive, find the way, find a place to stay....sounds like Im closing up on my first heartattack or something=/

You MUST have this pre-approval before you travel or you will get to the airport and not be allowed on the plane.
It's called the Electronic System for Travel Authorization and do it asap and it's valid for 2 years. It's usually approved within a few seconds and I checked the website and it's
http://www.dhs.gov/files/programs/gc_1217365595781.shtm
then just hit the application link, have your passport, address and phone number of where you will stay in the USA with you at the time.
It sounds like alot and can be a little nerve racking but seriously it's all worth it and you get used to it
When are you thinking of travelling??? Let me know ok:thumbsup:
Tezzyc 01-24-2010, 01:20 PM Ok, thank God that you wrote me then! =)
But how am I supposed to give the the number of the place where Im staying when I donīt know where Im gonna stay until I get there?...HMm
Donīt know when Im going to come to CA. Im still waiting for my friend to call me.
I sent him a letter with my number 2 weeks ago but he hasnīt called yet, donīt know if he has gotten the letter yet.
I have been trying to call PVSP and se if I can leave a message for him, but it seems impossible to get in touch with someone there. "Sorry your call canīt be completed at this time please try again later"
No matter when I call I only get this message=(
Butrfly420 01-25-2010, 02:15 PM The best time to try and get in touch with someone is from 9-4 Monday - Thursdays. Also...I dont recommend trying to get a message to him unless it is something VERY important. Death in the family, something like that. The best thing to do is wait to hear from him. I didnt know that you had to be pre-approved to even fly these days??? Sheesh..that is insane.

Is it safe for me to wait til next week to try for following weekend? Or should I try tomorrow? No one answered today, and it said mail box was full :-(
kimbypat 02-02-2010, 03:04 PM yes, that message was totally crazy, i also got through to that message line, that said they were now taking appts for the 6th and 7th, which has to be wrong, making me assume that they have not even started for the 13th and 14th as yet, and that all the busy signals were all of us just trying to get in to the line. Did anyone get through to make appts for the 13th and 14th?
Butrfly420 02-02-2010, 03:31 PM Unfortunately if the recording says they are taking appointments for the 6th and 7th, than they havent updated the line. They did those appointments LAST week. They were taking appointments for the 13th and 14th this week. You can try tomorrow..but it sounds like all the appointments are taken :( Sometimes they dont update the line, which really sucks. I am sorry ladies :(
ivy1989 02-07-2010, 04:07 PM Does anyone knows if you have to renew visiting forms? Or once approved, theres no need to renew?? Thanks!!
light at end 02-07-2010, 04:49 PM You have to update them every 2 years. Or if the inmate paroles and comes back into custody you will have to reapply.

seahawk 02-07-2010, 04:52 PM I sent in my visiting form on Monday the 23rd of May, I am so excited to finally get to see my friend, (we may become more than friends after that visit) so I was just wondering when I should expect to recieve an answer? Thank you very much in advance for your time! :)
Rebeca
P.S. By the way he is P.V.S.P
be patient, it will tak 6 weeks but it is worth the wait
*chapis* 02-08-2010, 02:30 AM Hello everyone!!
Could anyone please tell me who I need to send my visitation form to? I've read previous threads and some say send it to the sender but others have stated it should be sent to the visiting officer? Who is the visiting officer at PV??? My friend sent a visitation questionnare about a year ago but in Spanish, CDC 106-A (3/89) , he wrote his name and CDC # on the front page, is that the equivalent to the signature required on the English forms or do I need to ask for an updated form?? Sorry for all the questions but I'm on a time crunch....I plan on visiting my penpal friend of 2 years in March, I will be at Yosemite National Park and Coalinga is not too far considering the drive from Houston to Cali lol...
Butrfly420 02-08-2010, 09:35 AM Welcome to the PVSP forum
When you fill out your visiting application you will send it to the inmate. Same housing and PO Box. What I do..is put on the outside of the envelope, "Attention Visiting Department" and highlight it...that way they know it has an application inside. The mailroom will take the application out and forward it to the visiting department. It may take a few weeks to get it processed...it just depends on how backed up they are.
The person you are trying to visit...needs to send you the application. He MUST sign the back of it before you send it back in. They will not process the application if the back is not signed. So make sure he signs it before sending it to you.

*chapis* 02-08-2010, 11:54 AM Thanks for your reply and help :) I'm still confused though b/c the form has one signature line and that's in the back for me to sign agreeing i have read all the terms and regulations. He did write his name and CDC# on the front before sending it out so maybe they will accept it??? Wish I would have done this sooner :( I'm going to send the form today and see what happens and ask for an updated English version with his signature on the back...
*chapis* 02-08-2010, 11:59 AM One more thing....i have tried many times to speak with someone at PVSP regarding the form isssue but everytime I call the number (559) 935-4900 or (559) 935-4933 I can't get through and it disconnects after I press "0" to speak with the operator....is there another number to call where it's not a recording and I can actually speak with a person??
Butrfly420 02-08-2010, 12:21 PM (559) 935-4900 is the main number. Thats the number to call. When the recording comes on, press ext. 5712...that will take you to the visiting department.

*chapis* 02-08-2010, 12:58 PM OMG thank you thank you thank you!!! I was able to speak with a Sgt!!! :) he said to go ahead and send it in like it is...so maybe I WILL be able to see him!!!!
*chapis* 02-08-2010, 02:48 PM FYI: I just spoke with the Visiting Dept Sgt again and he said all of C yard is on lockdown due to an incident that happened earlier today....they are investigating and there is no telling when the they will be off lockdown...my friend is on C yard :(
Also, what do females wear?? he said no denim/blue jeans so I was thinking of black/brown jeans but he said they can't be form fitting....does that mean the jeans have to be loose or will it be safer to just go ahead and wear dress pants/slacks??
tlc2706 02-11-2010, 01:27 PM I was wondering I was approved to see my husband at NKSP and I assumed it followed me I was just approved in 1/2010. Is that the case because I have seen some threads that said maybe resubmit one. Which I did ask my husband to send them from NK before he was moved so I would be prepared. Also the visitor max is 5 there also right? Because I have 4 kids.
Butrfly420 02-11-2010, 03:53 PM MOST of the time his approved visitors list will follow him..however there have been times when it doesnt and you will need to reapply. If you want, just in case, you can send in another application but still try and visit once he is off of orientation. And you are correct, the max amount of visitors at one time is 5...including children.

You can also try calling and let them know your husband was just transferred and you want to make sure your approval is on his file.
tlc2706 02-11-2010, 09:32 PM Thank you ladies I will call tomorrow. I just got an envelope with a lot of forms so if not I will send one in tomorrow. I was planning on visiting in March.
midnight waits 03-02-2010, 01:11 PM jeez...has anyone gotten thru to the appt. line yesterday or today? I got thru and it just rang and rang! Anyone know anything? Thanks!
I*Heart*Harry 03-02-2010, 02:33 PM same exact thing happened to me today.. got through and it just rang for forever then went dead... I was screaming at the phone haha. I know nothing more than that, except now we know it was happening to other people too!! seriously infuriating!!
Butrfly420 03-02-2010, 03:21 PM Another friend of mine contacted me saying she was having the same issue. I would definitely try tomorrow...if they werent taking appointments today...tomorrow is the last day :o
If anyone can help me out with some questions I have in regards to visiting at pleasant valley please pm me ASAP! THX
Ok can we schedule appointments for one another, also if I get myself an appointment do I need to make one for another family member that is gonna see the same inmate as me.
Butrfly420 03-03-2010, 04:24 PM You are allowed to schedule 2 visiting appointments at one time. If there is going to be other people visiting the same inmate as you...you dont have to schedule that appointment separately. An inmate is allowed 5 visitors at one time...this includes children/babies.
What some people do is if they know someone who goes to the same prison as them, they both can try and make appointments for one another...it increases your odds to get an appointment. The problem with that though is if you have more than one other person making your appointment for you and the appointment lady catches on...she can suspend your appointment privileges...so definitely be careful.

Butrfly420 03-05-2010, 11:57 AM Welcome to the PVSP forum sweetie. :D
Unfortunately the only way to make appointments is by phone. The appointment line is (559) 935-3780 and you can call Mon- Wed from 11-1. The line will be busy..so dont get discouraged...just keep calling and hitting the redial button.
When he arrives at PVSP he will be on orientation for about 10-14 days. He wont be able to call or get visits until he see's committee. But after that..you are good to go. Level 4 SNY yard is "A" yard....my husband and I are on that yard...so please let me know if you have any questions. :o
