Ray Hill · Founder, Producer & Host “The Prison Show”

Ray was sentenced to 160 years in prison in Texas. While in prison, he became a jailhouse lawyer and reformed his sentence to just eight years. As a Trustee, he completed his sentence in four years, four months, and ten days.

Ray's accomplishments are many, but it should be noted that among them are winning four Federal suits against the City of Houston, including a landmark First Amendment U.S. Supreme Court Case: City of Houston V. Hill 107 S. Ct 2502, and in 2005 Ray was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Houston, Texas ACLU.
However, most of us will know Ray from Pacifica Radio’s “The Prison Show” which has been broadcast every Friday on KPFT 90.1 FM since March 1980.
The State of Texas doesn't yet permit inmates to have access to telephones or the internet. So for many inmates The Prison Show is the only way for them to hear the voices of their relatives, loved ones and friends between the visits which often come much too rarely due to the financial hardships they entail.
During the first hour of the program Ray, the gang, and sometimes special guests discuss current issues and review the week's mailbag. In the second hour they take the calls that make the show so special, as the callers connect to talk to their family members, friends and loved ones within the Texas prison system.

This will be the first time that Ray has been a guest speaker for PTO. We are looking forward to welcoming him at our 2009 National Conference.

Michael B Jackson - "Doing Good After Prison: A handbook for successful re-entry"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v739/ladyarkles/biopic.jpg

Michael B. Jackson has been involved in the criminal Justice System for over 30 years. For the past 18 years he has worked with the New Jersey Juvenile Justice System in such capacities as Youth Counselor, Youth Worker Supervisor, Superintendent of Residential Programs, and District Parole Supervisor. The past 5 years he has been the Parole Revocation Hearing Officer for the JJC.
Earlier in his life, during the 1970’s, Mr. Jackson spent several years with the NJ Department of Corrections, in such positions as Tutor, Kitchen Helper, Building Maintenance Worker, Farm Worker, and Roadside Trash Removal Technician.

Although not technically an employee of the DOC during his stay with them, Jackson feels that his personal experiences growing up in the projects in Newark, NJ and his struggle with drug addiction; which ultimately landed him to prison, gives him an advantage in his work with formerly incarcerated people and their families.
In his books the author gives practical advice and information for taking control of your own destiny and success after leaving prison. “Do Good” focuses on one changing his way of thinking and overcoming the traditional barriers he will face in society as a formerly incarcerated person. “Love and Inspire”, is based on letters sent to Jackson’s online advice column.

Today Jackson is an author, motivational speaker who has appeared on many local and national radio, newspaper, and television shows. Jackson has also frequently conducts workshops and presentations and at seminars and conferences.

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Jackson back to our National Conference, and are looking forward to hearing his inspiring and informative presentation.

Breaking the cycle of crime by strengthening families through support, education, and advocacy.
Few events in life are more devastating than having a member of one’s family, or a close friend, incarcerated. Texas Inmate Families Association (TIFA) members have united to support families affected by having a loved one in the Texas criminal justice system and to improve the conditions and life chances of Texas inmates.
