:D I had a wonderful visit with my son,he has grown into a fine man. Fort Grant is not to bad of a prison. They were very nice to me, but I did come fron out of state, Calf. But when I drove up to it I drove in to far and a gaurd was very nbice about telling me where to go to park and when to go for visitation. I had a little trouble getting through the metal detector, it kept going off, I had to take the borettets out of my hair my glasses off and finally my shoes and I got through. But all fo the gaurds were very nice and helpful. The only thing that wasn't very good was the food in the vending machines. My son loves it but he would eat anything. When I let, I stayed from 9 in the morning until 3 when we were ask to leave, I didn't want to leave my son there. He was walking down the fince waving to me and I wanted to go get he and talk him home with me. I cryed all the way back to Phoniex, and I was driving. I went alone. But I made it. He will be getting out March 11. He will be doing his proll at his Dads house, and everthing is set up and ready to go. It will be hard for me to visit him there, as my ex is a ass hole, but hopfuly my son can come to Calf. and visit me instid. But it was a GREAT VISIT.

My friend used to be incarcerated at Fort Grant, but was moved about a year or so ago. I enjoyed the visits there too. They were ALWAYS very helpful & nice. It's been my favorite so far as far as visitation goes. I live in Phoenix as well...so it's a long drive for me. He's now at Safford (fairly close to Fort Grant if I'm not mistaken)

I have been to Fort grant, I am not sure but now I am thinking that Fort Grant Unit and Safford are 2 different places? That is strange to me because I had thought they were the same prison. I visted there about 1 1/2 years ago. I took our son to see his father there. I at the time lived in California and stayed with my father in law in Maricopa. Whew what a drive. But it was a very nice visit. They have a very nice and large visiting area, and the guards were very good at explainning and awnsering any question my son and I had. Being that our son is only 6 I was impressed with the gurads and them awnsering to my sons every little question. If I had to vist a prison again I would say this was a good one for visits!

My son is at Safford-Fort Grant. It sounds like its not too bad a place to visit. I live up in WA and hope to be able to visit him soon. Does anyone know if there is an airport in Safford? How about the nearest airport?

There is a small airport in Safford. I don't know about booking a flight to it. I fly into Phoniex and rented a car and drove from there. It was about a three hour drive. But Fort Grant is not right by Safford. It is about 40 miles from there. And there is no public transerpertaion to it from Safford. If you are coming from another state, you can get special treatment, but your son has to set it up from there a month in advance. On surten days of the month you can have food visits. They are very helpful when you call them and ask questions, just explane you are from another state.
Hope this helps Typetester
