I have never said I was an angel but do need help. I am on probation for a Gross. Misdeminor. My soon to be husband is going to prison.

My probation officer will not give me the letter I need to visit Shane. He says it is his personal policy not to write them letters and that i just need to deal with it.

There has to be something I can do. It is just his own personal policy. What can I do?

Please anyone help me.

I have a friend who is a PO and nothing pisses him off more than for somebody on his caseload to go over his head to his supervisor, but that may be your only option. How long are you on probation? Is there any way that you can be cut loose early? I know my friend will take it before the judge to have just about anybody on his caseload released if their fines and restitution are paid once they've done about 1/2 of their probation time.

Are you sure this will keep you from visiting him? I mean, my sister-in-law is on probation for a felony and was approved to see my husband - as far as I know they don't do criminal background checks where he is. He just turns in a name and they put them on the list.

samantha, that really stinks! i don't know how things work in washington, but i do know how things work in nc and fl. florida required a complete background check on me ~ criminal included. here in nc, mj just put me on his list, as danielle stated. i'm guessing that washington has the criminal background check? i think your only option maybe to go over this guy's head ~ or talk to him again, and if he still refuses, then do it. i don't know of any other way around it.

here in nc, when i applied to volunteer to tutor kids, they did a criminal background check on me, which turned up nothing, but when i was honest with them and told them about mj, it was then they decided i was a "security risk" and wouldn't let me tutor - at a totally different prison. i don't know, the criminal injustice system rarely makes any sense to me!

best of luck.

THank you to both of you. I talked to him and he kept saying it is his policy not to write the note. I do not even know how to contact his head person.

I am 1/2 way done with it. I have all my fines and probation fees paid for and have all my community service done. I am taking care of the last part of it this week. I know they do, do a back ground check here.

I have applied with jobs with children and got them all. Because they check for "diffrent" things than my stupid dang charge. Never do I give people rides any more unless I do a full body and personal iteams purses ect.

Do you know how I might be able to contact his head person?

In Mississippi the state is divided up into regions and there is a supervisor for each region. They are employed by the Department of Corrections, so that might be your first alternative - call the Washington DOC and just ask questions. You don't have to tell them who you are just ask for information on how to reach Mr. John Doe's supervisor, PO for whatever county or area and then go from there.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hello,

I am not sure how the probation department works in your city, but try calling the probation office directly ( not the # for your PO) and speak to the front desk person. Ask to speak to your PO's Supervisor or the Officer of the day. Once you find out who the Superviser is, make sure to get their direct number or extenion number in case you have to keep calling back to get a hold of them.

Good Luck!!

samantha: you could just say to YOUR parole officer "i need this letter ~ since it's your policy not to write them, could you let me know who YOUR supervisor is, so they can furnish me with a letter stating i have fulfilled all my obligations?"

i can't believe this person is acting like this....weird. it's not any skin off their teeth, especially since you've done everything they've required of you...grrrrr....

hang in there, sweetie.

Unfortantly he is also my soon to be husbands Missdeminor probation officer too. The county that I am on probation for is a small county. I do not even live in it. I am 115miles away from it. Where I live. but this county is like taking the two old shows Green Acares and Peticoat Junction and put them together. You would have this county. The whole population is like around 3,000 people. So it's super small and that is where I am having my problems with. But I figure I have my drug thing on Wednesday this week and after that I am than going to approch my PO again. I mean I am not even a felon. I have a gross misdeminor. Ahhh these people can be such a pain. Any way thank you so much for your advise.

Have you checked with the Ombudsman's office if one is available? If that is not available, you can do what April suggests which I think is rather direct, but may work the best.

As you have stated that you have completed everything expected of you, I can't imagine or understand what the problem is or what he could do to you. I suggest you go over his head to the supervisor or director.

Good luck.

Jim thank you so much for the advice. I hope you are having a good day. Thank you again. I am gonna go over his head...he's just doing it I think because he does not care too much for my soon to be husband.

I can't see my boyfriend right now, but when he is back in this state ( MISSISSIPPI ) will I be able to see him legally? I will be on probation. Does anyone know anything about MS laws reguarding an inmate having visits with someone on parole/probation? He will most likely be housed at Parchman. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am a little curious myself about this. I am not on probation now, but I was up until May of this year. Will they not approve me for visits because of this? I guess I need to contact the Michigan Dept. of Corrections eh?

Just my opinion here...I would put your request in writting and send it to your PO certified mail. CC a copy of it to the supervisor and also send it certified. I would explain in the letter the nature of your charge as well as the importance of maintaining family contacts and how this reduced the rate of recidivism. Don't be damanding in the letter be greatful etc, blah blah blah, lol. I think that this may be your best best. Your PO is the last person that you want to piss off. If this doen't work and you've exhausted all the other options, I suggest writting to the judge who sentenced you.
