Hi Dj  Welcome to PTO! You may want to post this question in your States forum, someone there may be able to answer you better on Coffee Creek. Good luck, hope you get your answers ;)

Hi DJ,

Since you had some specific questions about the prison at Coffee Creek, I have moved this thread to the Oregon forum on PTO so your post will have the opportunity to get more specific responses and the best answers to your questions.

You also might want to thumb thru the Oregon forum to see if some of your questions have already been answered in the past... the direct link to the forum is here:

Hope you find the info you're looking for and good luck! :)

Hi just wanted to let you know your daughter will be fine... My daughter has been there since the 16 of december and she is okay... Not saying it's the hilton but she is okay so far. There have been a few issues but mainly like musical chairs trying to find a place to sit to eat. Seems as though everyone is telling her she cannot sit there. I told her it's only cause she was the new girl on the block and it would pass, in which it has.. If you can tell me her name i will ask my daughter how she is doing and let her know to help her out. What part of oregon are you from? I'll wait to hear from you until then be strong and pray alot... I know what you are feeling but we have to think positive.

coffee creek is really ok i mean if you are a women going to prison in oregon it is clean, and you are pretty well protected. My husband was on intake there as well as myself almost a year ago to the day.
other than finding a place for yourself at chow it all runs very smooth. your daughter might want to ask for a counselor miss hollis coon helped me out alot as well as chaplin borden. I also have a good friend that is there her name is melissa w. she is on j unit. which i dont believe they have intake inmates on. but if she stays in max after she is out of intake tell her to look her up and cari said to help the girl out. otherwise as soon as she is classed she will go over to minimum and that honestly is like a college campus she can go in and out of the yard when she wants other than count time and chow there is a chow hall and you eat by dorm so the seating crap does not go on there the worst part is you are not in a cell with one other person you are in a dorm setting with about 190 girls in each dorm. hope she gets a good dorm and not a top bunk. there are pros and cons to both. she will be ok also tell her if she does go to minimum that a ms. watkins is in 200 dorm and she is a life saver she is a counsler and is very cool i still talk to her to this day and i was released a year ago sept 3 good luck

I agree with what carilynn said about Medium versus Minimum. It is a lot better and more casual in Minimum, much less fights or incidents. I volunteer at Coffee Creek as a Math Tutor and find the atmosphere very similar to an all exclusive girls college or school. If your daugther wants go get a GED, this is the place to get it as there's a good Education department with great teachers.

You probably should PM her name if you're going to share it, rather than post it in the open forum. Z.

My son just went to Coffee Creek last week. I too have been wondering what his days are like. I hope she is doing well and you have been able to talk to her. What a bummer they can only send 5 letters while they are there. It is hard on a mom isn't it? Hang in there.

Your son would be in the Intake Center at Coffee Creek, rather than the main part of the prison, which is a women's prison. He is locked down a lot and going for psychological tests, academic testing, medical examination, etc., in the process to be designated to a different prison. He'll be there for awhile. He's in a safe spot - inmate movement is really limited. Z.

Thank you so much! Any news seems to be good news. I drive myself crazy waiting for that dang phone to ring. This really affects our whole family in ways I could never imagine. But not all negative; some of us have really pulled together to support each other. I so appreciate your response. You have helped at least 3 people sleep better tonight. Hope that in turn helps you get through your day.

Not sure if you got my last post, as my computer did something weird. Thank you so much for your post. I was gone away from the phone for 9 minutes today and guess what? Our boy tried to call twice!! I know I can't sit by the phone all the time, but geez! What timing. Thank you for your words and our son's wife and his mom and dad will sleep a little easier tonight. Hope that helps you get through at least one hard time..
