AllyM 02-22-2009, 11:15 PM Thank you LuvsandLaughsCA - our wonderful moderator for changing this thread and all you do here on PTO! You are awesome! Ok Folks! I have seen many posts recently of members saying their loved one said that they saw their counselor and the counselor said they are "on the list". Has anyone been to committee yet? Has you loved one been cleared medically? Met with the Lawyer? Is your loved one scheduled to leave on a bus or a plane? If your loved one has been transferred recently, please share your experiences here so others can know what to expect. There are many looking for information on the process and many who want to be supportive, so please POST POST POST! Also, please notice some changes in the "sticky" section at the top of the forum, we have updated some threads and posted some new threads with quick links to information relating to transfers. Again, thank you Luv! Blessings, Ally Helios&Iris 02-24-2009, 12:51 AM My love is going to committee on March 23rd. I will keep you all posted. waitin0for0him 03-03-2009, 12:27 AM My honey is goin to comittee tomorrow, march 3.. please keep us in your prayers, truly hoping for the best.... AllyM 03-03-2009, 07:53 AM My honey is goin to comittee tomorrow, march 3.. please keep us in your prayers, truly hoping for the best.... You got it hun! Good thoughts and prayers abound! Blessings, Ally Helios&Iris 03-03-2009, 11:48 AM My love is in commitee as we speak. It got moved up from the 23rd to today. Yesterday 50 of the 70 guys on the list had commitee and all of them were told they were leaving in 3-4 weeks. I have already thrown up twice this morning, that is how nervous I am. I spoke to him last night and he still sounds hopeful...WOW he is so much stronger than me. It's amazing. I will post later today.... meeganv 03-03-2009, 04:12 PM I guess I have an update: My man, who has been in TN for the past 2 1/2 years, is being moved to OK tomorrow. waitin0for0him 03-03-2009, 05:05 PM hes STAYING!! :D he called me this morning right before going to committee and we talked about how this could drastically change everything.. but not matter what I let him know i would be by his side thru it all. thru the good times and bad! theres nothing we could not overcome as long as we had god by oursides. i just got off the phone with him right now. They have taken his name of the list and will NOT be taken out of state. He said this was due to certain things such as he has a high school diploma and qualifies for a program at the prison he is at. He is also a first timer with less than a year left. Yesterday evening all of our family and our church members got together to pray for him. Just to show you the power of god and prayer! Instead of this being a horrific moment of truth as many have experienced, it was a blessing for us. They actually talked to him about moving him to a fire camp and possibly getting out soon?? We have to straighten some things out so his points can go down and he will meet with them once again to see if it is official. My heart goes out to those that have had their loved ones transfered out of state or that will be leaving soon. Never loose faith and you will see that everything will be okay. meeganv 03-03-2009, 07:27 PM Glad to hear you got the news you wanted. :) AllyM 03-03-2009, 08:49 PM Awesome news! I believe the State is trying to move/adjust and rearrange as fast as they can. Just my :twocents:. I am hoping that no news is good news. Did they tell your man during the commitee that he was staying or sometime after?? Also you mentioned that he gets to stay because he qualifies for a program there. My honey is a college grad who just started a program where he is tutoring guys to help get there GED's and in college courses. We have some hope that this might give him a chance as well. Anymore details you can think of would be great! Thanks! Congratulations!!!:) Helios&Iris 04-10-2009, 12:08 AM I just wanted to let everyone know that there is hope! :) My love and I just went threw a couple months of being selected and almost getting transferred out of state. Well, the bus left last week and he wasn't on it!!! I am so happy. I just wanted to share a happy ending story. The best advice I can give to anyone looking at transfer is to get involved and be able to prove there is a positive reason you should stay where you are. If your man can stand out in a crowd, I believe that could be the ticket. Honestly, that is what I can take from this 2 months of hell. Take care everyone! rockys lil girl 04-25-2009, 04:35 PM I went for a visit yesterday and they told my man he was eligible for transfer and i am in a breaking point i feel so depressed he has four yrs to go he was suppose to go to a level 2 its not for sure that they are taking him but he did mention to me that some of the people that where in the same room are leaving this week coming up i hope they dont take him they want to take them to mississippi meeganv 04-26-2009, 07:52 AM Hey Rocky, I just sent you a lengthy response in "Hear to Hear You" so I'll won't repeat myself here. I'm sorry you got that news. I ended the aforementioned post with the fact that I hear the guys prefer conditions in out of state facilities. To be more specific, I hear the food's better, the cells are larger, things are a lot more laid back, they are allowed to have playstations and video games in their cells, and the phone calls are longer. C-C 04-27-2009, 10:30 PM I went for a visit yesterday and they told my man he was eligible for transfer and i am in a breaking point i feel so depressed he has four yrs to go he was suppose to go to a level 2 its not for sure that they are taking him but he did mention to me that some of the people that where in the same room are leaving this week coming up i hope they dont take him they want to take them to mississippi I totally am with you! I am sick to my stomach, depressed and really don't know if I can take this if he gets moved out of state. We just got our family visit scheduled for 5/20. The only reason I knew I could stay during his 6 years was fv for me, him and the kids. They really know how to ruin lives. I am keeping hope, he has been cleared so he is not sure what happens next. He is going to ask for a committee review and attorney, as he has seen neither. I pray it buys us some time at least. C-C 04-27-2009, 10:33 PM My husband has been cleared for both med and dental but has not signed anything and only been told that he is eligible for transfer. Does anyone know the process? He told me guys were saying they could basically put him on a bus at any given point or time after clearance. My understanding is if he wants a committee review, he is entitled to one. So worried, we have our first f/v on 5/20 and waited so long for it. So worried, we have our first f/v on 5/20 and waited so long for it. My husband and I waited for five years for our FVs and we were due this December, January. It hurts because Ive been waiting so long to be alone with him. I miss him soo soo much. Let's hope we get the privilege in the other states. Godspeed. Soneat C-C 05-13-2009, 11:16 PM My husband went to committee to fight his transfer and was flat out told it does not matter WHAT the reason is other than mental illness or health, if they want to transfer you they will as it is a contract issue. We were suppossed to have our first family visit this Wendesdy the 20th and they are moving him Friday the 15th. Beyond disgusting.:( My MIL has a rod in her back and I suffer from documented back pain. My husband will be eligible for fire camp in November and they told hikm to "petition to come back then." Ya right, your gone your gone. Another family the CDCr is destroying. kima 05-14-2009, 06:00 PM Can he put in an emergency 602, which could possibly hold up the transfer until you've at least had your family visit? I don't know what the emergency would be...there must be something, though. I'm so sorry for you both, how devastating. Yep, CDCr has contracts to fill a certain amount of private prison bed spaces. It's human bondage-for-profit. Disgusting, actually. This is the latest eligibilty info I could find relating to out of state transfers (they have added Closed B's, which is a bit surprising): http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Regulations/Adult_Operations/docs/NCDR/2008NCR/08_05/15%20DayTEXT%20-%20COCF.pdf Isaiah28 05-14-2009, 11:07 PM Hey Rocky, I just sent you a lengthy response in "Hear to Hear You" so I'll won't repeat myself here. To be more specific, I hear the food's better, the cells are larger, things are a lot more laid back, they are allowed to have playstations and video games in their cells, and the phone calls are longer. My brother transferred last fall & other than obvious downside of being farther away from family, he likes it much better. All facilities have cable TV, they have microwaves, & yes.. the cells are much bigger. He also said that they treat you with more respect as a person and the counselors talk to you more often in order to get to know you as an individual. Of course it was difficult at first but when I sat back at thought about it, if he is going to be locked up, I would prefer that he be in a better environment out of state instead of an overcrowded prison in CA. There was over 7,000 inmates when he transferred out of Avenal. I believe the current count is about 6500. But the facility was only made to house 2320 inmates. The cells in the pods were 3 bunk beds high. If you were on the top bed you couldn't sit up on your bed because it was too close to the ceiling. There were 40 people sharing 1 toilet. I can go on and on, but you know what I mean. Anyway, I came to the conclusion that it would be selfish of me to prefer that he stay here to be closer to us, rather than a calmer & much more sanitary environment. But that's just my experience with this whole thing and I wish everyone else & their loved one the best of luck in theirs. I agree about the conditions for sure, I am just heartbroken because my family visit was 5 days away and now he might go somewhere where we will never have them or it may be more waiting and red tape SO frustrating. And HE does not want to go. meeganv 05-16-2009, 06:42 AM I agree about the conditions for sure, I am just heartbroken because my family visit was 5 days away and now he might go somewhere where we will never have them or it may be more waiting and red tape SO frustrating. C-C 05-16-2009, 08:12 PM Crazy thing now is he was not on the bus! His items are packed and he did not go with the other guys who were processed. He has no answers right now so we are PRAYING he stays through the week for our visit, oh God how I pray for that. We now he is going but not sure what happened, seems as if those guys went to MS and he is supposed to go to AZ. The system is so wacked! meeganv 05-16-2009, 09:37 PM At least if he goes to AZ they have family visits now!! I know you won't get one NEXT weekend (if he goes...crossing fingers for you that he holds off until after the weekend), but at least you'll still be able to get one at some point. That'll be a plus, because the other places don't have FVs yet. Hell, my guy is in OK and they are STILL telling us we can't even get married, let alone get a trailer once we do! We were all approved in TN, and then they transferred him to OK. No big deal, we'll just do it there, right? And then they said..."Oh, you can't get married in OK!" WTF??? Fighting that battle...always something... C-C 05-16-2009, 10:58 PM OMGthat is CRAZY and to be transferred to so many places, ridiculous! I will be sending good vibes your way for sure. Ya, it would suck not to get our visit as it is our first but you are right, at least there is a possiblity! lizzie416 05-17-2009, 05:58 PM At least if he goes to AZ they have family visits now!! Do u know if the other states are doing marriages? I know AZ is, but not sure on the other ones.. My hunny is also facing out of state transfer. I am hoping he stays here, but I know that doesnt always happen, so I am just trying to learn as much as possible about out of state transfer. :( C-C: I feel for u girl, I would be sooo upset as well if they transferred him b/4 the FV...ugh!! I cant believe w/CDCR does sometimes. Stay strong girl, things have a way of working out. :D meeganv 05-18-2009, 06:42 PM Yes, the other states do marriages. It's not a CCA policy, it's the OK policy we're trying to get around. And the OK policy does not affect OK state inmates, it only affects inmates housed in private facilities (CCA is private...). BTW...CA was not even aware there was a problem w/ getting married in OK. As far as they are concerned, we are appoved. It's funny, because with him being one of the first 80 volunteers to get transferred out-of-state, and with most of the others being shorter times, we have found that in the 2 1/2 years of being out of state now, we bring a lot of the flaws that need ironing out to CA's attention. Guess someone has to be the guinea pig, but he and I kind of wish it was someone else's turn from time to time. :) Soneat 05-23-2009, 11:56 PM My brother transferred last fall & other than obvious downside of being farther away from family, he likes it much better. My guy ran into an old friend from the yard at Ironwood. He told him that he was in La Palma for a minute, and apparently La Palma is being changed up a bit and going to be like the out-of-state "reception". Guys will go there for a minute, and then be transferred out to either OK or MS. Now, this doesn't make much sense to me, so I'm currently going to categorize it as a RUMOR, however, I wanted to let you all know since I know there are a lot of guys at La Palma. It doesn't make sense to me because La Palma is the only CCA facility that JUST started approving and having family visits. Why would they make that one a reception center?? It also doesn't make sense because as near as I can tell, they are the ones holding MOST of the CA guys and I was under the impression CCA built that facility for the purpose of meeting the contract with CA - it only holds CA inmates. Furthurmore, wifey posted that MS is already now overcrowded with CA guys, so why would they plan it like that? Doesn't make sense to me...but then, maybe that's the best argument for it actually being believable! caligirl07 05-31-2009, 03:32 AM A bus just arrived at OK with a bunch of CA guys transferred there from La Palma. HOW IS EVERYONE?????? jujacka 06-10-2009, 03:28 PM Hey everyone, my hubby has been in La Palma for about a month now. He likes it a whole lot better then CA prisons. He says the food is better, the CO's are very respectful and the cells are larger. I went to visit two weeks ago it was very nice everybody was so respectful. Soneat 06-10-2009, 04:19 PM Did he say anything about az being the reception facility? And if you dont mind me asking... which prison did he transfer from? Im glad he is feeling good about the transfer I wish you both alot of love.... good luck caligirl07 06-11-2009, 05:12 AM My son was transferred to La Palma, from Folsom Prison, almost 3 weeks ago. He said that they were transported by plane. They were shown a movie and had a nice lunch on the plane too. The plane trip took about an hour. The first two weeks he was there he was in reception and pretty much locked down, no phone calls, no property. He could write though, although they never gave him any writing materials at all. So I ended up sending stationary packet, so he could write to me. Now he's out of reception and he was told he would be staying at La Palma. He said the cells are way bigger. The meals are 3 hot meals a day and way bigger portions of food and just better food. When he was at Folsom, he hardly ever got to come out of his cell, but at La Palma, he's out all day, until 9 PM. He hardly ever called me when he was at Folsom, but now he is allowed to call everyday, if he wants. Although I can't afford that. The calls are pretty expensive though. He already has a job too, and never was able to get a job at Folsom. He said that there are 42 channels on his TV too. There are weights also. He also said that he can order commissary of up to $75 a week. He was allowed to order $90 a month at Folsom. He will be allowed to have an XBox 360 also. Might all get expensive, but all and all, he likes it much better there already. And the buildings are air conditioned! Even though I probably won't be able to ever go and visit him while he's there, I feel that he is just better off there. ;) Soneat 06-11-2009, 08:54 AM My son was transferred to La Palma, from Folsom Prison, almost 3 weeks ago. And if you dont mind me asking... which prison did he transfer from? He hasen't said anything about AZ being the reception facility. He has told me their has been a lot of people being transfered to Mississippi lately. djpurity 06-15-2009, 09:30 PM Hey, my bf just got transferred as well to AZ, to the prison in Eloy... is that La Palma? He just got there, and he also stated that it may just be temporary and they may send them on to another place... I really hope not. It sounds like this place is very much better than CA was... but after reading the posts here, I'm not too sure. It sounds like guys are being shipped even further east.... that is scary! He's already so far away from me. The thing is, he keeps saying that no one will tell them anything! When they arrived to AZ from an air flight out of SAC, they were locked down 24/7 in 2-man cells, with 5 sheets of paper per week per cell (that means per 2 men!!) and a golf pencil each. That was how they could write... and they didn't get property released until after this horrible lock down... this was their "reception" eh? I just got one letter 2 days ago so I don't know too many details and will be checking on here a lot. I really hope AZ works out... it sounds like AZ has a huge prison contract with CA and supposedly charges CA only half of what the prisons cost in CA. And they're all new prisons... low cost guards, new facilities, TV, video games, ... it's something new to take in. Mike had been at Susanville originally when they decided to ship out of state. He's a violent offender so he has no say really in what they do with him at this point. It's too bad.... he only caught this case because I was getting hurt by my ex-husband... the system really will take what happened, twist it up, and then lock you up... it's sad, but hey, day by day. There are three facilities in Eloy, one is La Palma and that seems to be the only one I hear about. Look up Corrections Corporations of America... it will show you a little about each site. Good Luck. AllyM 06-20-2009, 08:50 AM Hey, my bf just got transferred as well to AZ, to the prison in Eloy... is that La Palma? California has a contract with CCA (Corrections Corporation of America) (http://www.correctionscorp.com/about/). CCA has facilities all over the country but the ones that CA has contract with CCA to house our inmates at are facilities in AZ, MS, OK and TN (http://www.cdcr.ca.gov/Visitors/CA_Out_Of_State_Facilities.html). Two of the 3 AZ facilities are in Eloy. I'm sorry this happened to you and your loved one. Try to stay strong! Blessings, Ally |
