Soul mate just tranferred to Tracy. He's never been to prison but has at leasst a year to do and possibly more when his PO in Humbolt catches up with him for a probation violatin. I haven't heard from him in 8 days. Not even a letter. When can I expect to hear from him? Can't he send mail? Can't he ever use a phone? Does it really take 4-6 wks for form 106 to be approved? Will he have touch visits in reception? I have written but am afraid to even put perfume on my letters. I'd like to know if anyone can give me ideas about where he might be placed? He has mentioned that he'd like to go to a fire camp so we can be closer. Possibly Georgetown? Maybe I'm just being inpatient. Miss him soo. D#*% drugs. Any information would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there I will tell you what I know from when my guy was there.Yes he can write and recieve mail but no visits and no phone calls. Oh and mail took about 1 to 2 weeks to get to him at that time.Don't panic if you don't hear from him for awhile believe me I know it is hard but sometimes they do not have the supplies to send mail with.I believe they are given a few envelopes a month but I'm not positive about that.It was/is his first time in prison also.He was at Tracy about 3 months before transfered. His counseler did recomend a fire camp semi close to home for him but they sent him to Pelican Bay instead,as far North as he could get from home :(
Hopefully you will have much better luck! Hang in there

DONT panic if it takes a while to hear from him.
a friend of mine got shipped off to NKSP lastmonth. it took about 2 weeks for me to get the 1st letter from him. i sent him an xmas card. and it took about 3 weeks for me to get a thank you letter from him. but they cant make calls & have visits. but send him letters. :)
and you will get a letter from him. and dont forget..this is the holiday season..so it will take a bit longer to recieve letters from our inmates ;)

Hi and welcome to PTO!

My son was at DVI in reception, so I can share with you what I know about it. It takes forever for them to get their mail at first. My son didn't get any mail for 3 weeks even though we wrote to him daily, then it all came to him at once. His letters did get to us really quick from the start. After a while, the mail moved pretty smoothly and he got things in about a week unless it was a package of paper or envelopes or something and then those took about 3 weeks.
If you can, send him writing materials (paper, envelopes, stamps) so he can write. He will eventually get them. Writing is his lifeline while in reception. I think it is up to 150 pieces of paper, 20 envelopes, one book of stamps at a time. If you send the stamps separately, just in a greeting card, he will get them pretty quick.

No phone calls while in reception. Visiting is behind glass for one hour, but yes, you have to wait the six weeks to get approved. His wife and I waited more like 8 or 10 weeks as I recall.

As for where he will go..who knows...They tend to send you where you don't want to go is what I hear. My son was eligible for firecamp and he told his couselor he wanted to go there first, mainline anywhere second, but that he definitely did not want to do a program. They sent him to CSATF to do the program.

Hang in there. the shock and the strangeness of it all will wear off some and you will adapt. It sux bigtime, but there is lots of support and information from good people hear at PTO to get you through it.

Thank you all for responding! I got home from work and had 2 letters from him. The next day I got another with CDC 106 form in it. You bet that form was returned 10 min later! Just miss him and praying his next home isn't named after a funky looking bird that is 500 miles away.
