A Lifer's Perspective
Dr. Victor Frankl, in his book Man’s Search for Meaning, wrote that without a sense of meaning and purpose for our lives, we could not survive. For those of us serving life in prison, finding a sense of meaning and purpose is the main challenge. Each prisoner serves his sentence in his own way. Some inmates—especially those serving shorter sentences—just put in time. Their real lives are on hold until they get out. Those of us serving life sentences, however, must either find a meaningful life for ourselves now or have no life at all.
