Good News!!

Last weekend Rachel and I tested the available bandwidth at the Marriott Hotel (conference venue) and confirmed there is plenty to accommodate at least one live video stream, if not multiples. So, those of you who are unable to attend the conference in person will now be able to view things live over the internet AND communicate with us!!

PTO's live video "channel" is located here at the uStream site: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/prison-talk
But, we will likely have the video embedded into the live chat room channel here at PTO so you can chat and watch on the same page.

We will be using www.ustream.tv (http://www.ustream.tv) for our live video; however, if you want to interact with us at the conference, you will need to do so via PTO's live chat room. We will be removing the minimum post requirement to accesss the live chat room for the weekend of the conference and reducing how long someone has to be a member to access the chat room to a day or two.

How the live interaction will work is during the Q&A sessions, we will start fielding questions from members in PTO's live chat room, and then ask the speaker the question for you. The speaker will then respond to the question via the live video feed.

We will likely do a few preliminary/test events to help familiarize everyone with this setup so when it's "game day", we hopefully won't have much confusion.

Beyond the National PTO Conference, we will likely be using this channel for other PTO GTG's and related events.

Any person who opens an account at www.ustream.tv (http://www.ustream.tv) has the ability to do their own streaming at events or even at home.

If you have a web cam and want to stream PTO GTG's or anything else prison related, we are looking at starting up a network!! I would absolutely love to have as many prison related events streamed live so we can all watch and participate even if we are unable to be there..

Hey David, I got a question on the first link in your opening post here.
I created an account logged in and the Prison Talk page comes up with this prompt:

Yes, whilst we are still tinkering with the settings on this we have made it p/w protected.

It will be opened ahead of time.

I think this is awesome-while I cannot be there in person (it is tax season and that is how I make my living) my heart and soul is with all of you.

As for the conference streaming; we will be having a chat window open (our own PTO chatroom) so that people can ask questions or make comments.

Time and again, PTO amazes me. Then I become cozy with a new something introduced. Time passes as we all do our things in PTO and it's sub-forums....then WALLA, another something happens, and again I'm amazed.

David, and all of your helpers....... I am so proud of what you've done, and continue to do.

PTO long ago became more than just a 'web-site' full of information for the hungry. It became a home with an address located in hearts.

Im pretty sure ill check it out this weekend.

This may change between now and in the morning but for the moment, here's what we're planning to do:

We will be using PTO's chat room for chatting purposes during the conference. Temporarily and for tomorrow only, we will be lifting the limits on post count & time as a member of PTO access, and PTO's chat room will be open to EVERYONE regardless of their post count & time as a member. (Again this will just be for Saturday during the conference.)

We *may* have a change to that and have both the video & chat on one page of PTO before tomorrow comes - but for now the above is the plan.

I will be here online early in the morning (probably around 6am CST) and we'll know everything for sure by then, but for now that's the plan.

(And we plan to archive and save the broadcast for viewing at a later date, of course)

There will also be an open forum/Q&A session this afternoon.
