Hey everyone, I am hoping someone here can help me. I live in WA and my fiance is in TX. I am traveling to see him in March for the 3rd time. Last year the warden gave us 2 hrs sat and 2 hrs sun. He actually did approve us for 4 hours each day and came back and said no because he didint realize that he was in Ad Seg. I am hearing people say that we should get 4 hours. I see in the offenders handbook where it says 4 hours a day for a total of 8 hours in 2 consecutive days can be permitted but of course it's up to the Warden.
So my question is, has anyone got approved for a special visit and gotten 4 hrs each day ??? Thank you! :)

and the warden approves a 4 hours visit ( on saturday or sunday) and a 2 hours visit the next week ( but the last time because of the hurricane he gave me a 4 hours visit for a second visit).
Well, so in fact he approves a 4 hours for the first visit but rarely for the second visit, even if it's not fair 'cause that's not what it's explained in the handbook. Does it make sense?

It is discretion of the warden... Connally can be tough. We are lucky at clements to have a good warden. KNOCK on wood always got 4 hrs both days. Was cut short after the state wide lock-down due to so many vistors showing up. Talked to ASST Warden on Saturday after that and we did get the 4 hrs on Sunday. I travel from FL to TX 1500 miles. At Clements we can visit High Security (ad-seg) during the week too. I just have weekends off so go during the weekend.
TDCJ Visitation rules on Special Visits
The Warden or designee may permit special visits (contact or non-contact) or authorize
special conditions of visits outside of the ordinary course of established visitation rules.
Offenders or visitors wanting to have a special visit shall submit requests in writing to the
Warden. The Warden or designee shall review the request and notify the offender of his
denial or approval of the special visit. In those circumstances when the offender has had
no prior notice of the special visit (e.g., family travels over 300 miles to see the offender
without telling the offender of their visit), the Warden shall have the authority to approve
or deny the request based on his assessment of the individual circumstances of the
request. The Warden has sole discretionary authority to grant or deny requests for
special visits, to include, but not limited to, the circumstances outlined below.
6.1 Three Hundred (300) Miles:
Permission for visits of a maximum of four (4) hours may be obtained through the
Warden or designee for those visitors whose residence is three hundred (300) or
more miles (as indicated by the Texas State Mileage Guide) in distance (one
way) from the offender’s unit/facility of assignment. A total of eight (8) hours
visiting with a maximum of four (4) hours per day on two (2) consecutive days
may be permitted. Such visits may be scheduled during weekdays by special
arrangement. Only one special extended visit may be held each month.
Permission for an extended visit due to distance traveled shall not normally be
granted if the visitor has visited more than once in the past month.

Last time he only gave us 2 hours each day. I dont understand why? My man has not had a write up/case since 2000. I am traveling from WA. I even sent him a really nice letter asking for the 4 hours. ahhhh....so frustrating. In about a week I will be sending a letter to request a special visit in March.
Do you think I should ask to talk to the assistant warden after our visit on SAt, and maybe he could approve a 4 hour visit for Sunday?

Depending on his Line class that will determine how long his visits are.Since he is in SEG,he should be eligible for two 4hour visits. If he has had a clean slate since 2000 i dont see why he shouldnt be able to get those 4hours each day?My man used to be at Connally then moved to Clements.I just went this past weekend and got my 4 hours each day :) And FYI writting and requesting a 4 hour will get you no-wheres.. you need to CALL the unit. You get anwers faster that way :)
