Why is a 'manhole' round?

You know - that hole with the metal cover on the street?

because the manhole cover is round...come on teb...must be a catch...or are you trying to figure it out???

because corners would add stress points. round hole is stronger, but I think christine got it. lol

The Round cover will not fall into the round home. as it is the same circumference all the way around. It is a safety feature.

The commonly told story, which may even be true, is that manhole covers are round so they can't be accidentally into dropped into the manhole.

The manufacture of circular manhole covers is easier and more accurate than the manufacture of covers of any other shape.

You can roll round manhole covers, which is good, cuz they're wicked heavy :)

A standard sanitary sewer manhole cover is made of cast iron and weighs approximately 80 pounds. Ever tried to roll one? Not as easy as it sounds... :p
