Hi....I would like to know what happens to mail that is incorrectly addressed, mail that has something objectionable to the DOC written in it or enclosed in it, for example a picture, newspaper clipping....whatever... that may cause the envelope to be considered undeliverable. Here in Florida if the inmate is moved they return to sender..same deal if there are too many newspaper clippings or whatever?? When my man first got there (NY) I wrote using the wrong DIN and the letter was never received or returned...same situation with a letter from his friend???? What do they do with it??
Thanks.......Judy

It should've been returned to the sender by the return address. It's odd that it wasn't sent back to you.

I have had a few things returned to me ... in each case there was a note, either written across the front or a slip of paper included, stating why it was being returned. Each time I was surprised that it even got back to me b/c it's not like they put it in another envelope - they just slapped some tape on it so by the time it got to me the envelope was pretty messed up but I guess it was still readable by the post office ... I did put a wrong DIN one time though, I realized it afterwards and that one never got back to me ... so I guess it depends on what the issue for their returning it is?

NY DOC is notorius for messing with their mail.....They have started opening Outlaws mail again. But they did a boo boo. They opened a letter sent to his lawyer and they resealed it.....and it was clearly addressed to the lawyer...

I was curious to the fact of whether the COs open all of the mail that is sent to an inmate. To me that would be alot of work, especially considering the amount of mail inmates get per day. Does anyone know of the procedure when mail is sent to the facilities? HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYBODY!!! :hee: ( I just found this icon funny)

Hi y,all...I just wanted to let you know that one of his B-day cards was returned to me because I was 23 cents short on postage???? I put one regular stamp on it (37 cents). I guess the other greeting cards with the same 4 pages of letter writing didn't weigh as much??? LMAO biggg time...Geezz I must owe the post office a lot..I guess I will just slap 2 stamps on there from now on...just to make sure...it is always something ain't it??? Judy
