I just learned from another inmate that my boyfriend (he is at CSP Solano) has been moved to AdSeg/Hole last week. I'm not sure why and I know he won't get my mail, with paper and stamped envelopes for a little bit longer. How do I find out if I can visit with him, even as Non-Contact? Do I just make an appointment and go up that day to be turned down or approved? Is there a certain waiting period before being able to visit him again. We had regular visiting priviledges up until his move. I've tried calling CSP Solano and all they can say is 'Yes, he is in AdSeg'. If anyone has gone through this - could you please give me some advice. Thank you.

I am sorry to hear that he is in Ad/Seg. Did you talk to someone in the visiting department there or was it just records? You will have to be an approved visitor to see him...and the visits will be behind glass for an hour. You will also have to make an appointment to see him. I would encourage you to call the visiting department to find out if you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can see him in Ad/Seg...I know some places will have you wait like 2 weeks...some wont...it just depends on the faciltiy. Good luck sweetie.

My guy is in Solano and he just got out of ad-seg. You have to make an appointment between the hours of 11-1 Monday Thru Thursday. Many times the line is busy, but just keep calling back. The number is 707-454-3266. You need to know his CDC # as well. Happy visiting!

My friend just found out her husband is in the hole this past week. She asked me if I knew about what she can send her husband. She also wants to know can she find out why he was put in the hole and how she can get his new address. I didn't know any of the above but told her I would ask on PTO. Any info will be helpful, thanks.:)

She can send him writing supplies and books, but I'd not send any books until she learns how long he'll be in there. Might only be for like 30 days or less, so sending books would be a waste since it takes that long to get them.

She can call the mailroom and ask how much paper/envelopes/stamps, etc can be sent. (707) 451-0182 ext 5504

She can also send him a few photos. ;)

Usually the counselors won't tell and you why an inmate is in ASU, so she will just have to wait for the inmate to write and explain.

To get his new housing and the address, she needs to call RECORDS - they can give her both.

Hope this helps and that he's out soon.

I believe you can send paper back books. If you want to visit you have to call and make an appt. I've never had to make and appointment to visit in Ad-Seg but my friends said to call this number. 1-707-451-0182 just listen for the options. Hope this helps.

Books/Mags/Newspapers all have to come from a dealer or publisher or bookstore. YOU cannot go buy a book and then send it yourself. You need to buy it at a bookstore (or online like from Amazon or Barnes & Noble) and have THEM send it.

What happens to them when they are in the hole?? Does anybody have any experience with this that they can share with me:confused: What are they allowed to have? can they go to store? How about writting supplies? Can they bring there stuff with them? Do they let them have yard time and how long? Do they have to eat all there meals in there cell? Do they get to shower at all? Can you send Magazines from Barnes and Nobles? What if all the NoContact visits are booked up, can you go up there and maybe get lucky to get a visit.
Thanks for the help.

We talked in PM's yesterday about a lot of this, but for any other members who may be wondering:

What are they allowed to have? Not much. A couple books, a few photos, writing supplies, a little Canteen.

Can they go to store? Yes, up to $45 a month.

How about writing supplies? Yes, you can send him writing supplies.

Can they bring there stuff with them? No, for the most part their property is stored until the leave ASU. Some prisons allow them to request certain items our of their property if they are going to be spending an extended period in ASU. Not their electronics, but things like personal books, a Bible, etc. I'm not sure about SOL's rules on this, but you can call and ask.

Do they let them have yard time and how long? Yes, they get yard time of an hour or so at least 3 times a week if not daily. Some prisons have "cages" that are about 10 feet wide by about 20 feet long that ASU inmates use for yard. Again, not sure what the ASU yard is like at SOL. Hopefully someone else will come after me and post regarding this.

Do they have to eat all there meals in there cell? Yes

Do they get to shower at all? Of course. That's a health issue, so they have to shower them at least twice a week. The rest of the time he will "bird bath."

Can you send Magazines from Barnes and Nobles? I would think so, but you might want to call and ask. You CAN send books, so I'd assume magazines would be okay. Again, hopefully someone with knowledge of SOL's Ad Seg rules will post after me on these issues.

What if all the Non-Contact visits are booked up, can you go up there and maybe get lucky to get a visit. I have no idea on this.

I believe they just built a bunch of new Ad-Seg cages at Solano. I've been watching the construction when I ride the bus to A side visiting. It seemed there were only 10 or so last summer and now there are more (never counted exactly). I noticed last week that they seemed ready to be used, but this is just my observation and don't know if they are being utilized yet. I do know that some guys who have gotten into trouble in my guys building (cell-phone issues) were put on "C-status" in a special dorm inside his building because there just isn't enough room in Ad-Seg for them right now.

What if all the Non-Contact visits are booked up, can you go up there and maybe get lucky to get a visit. I have no idea on this.

They call for Ad-seg appts when I go and there doesn't seem to be a rush for the door, once in a while I see someone answer the call... I don't have first hand experience but see the the ad-seg inmates being escorted across yard 2 sometimes. I just don't see them letting you walk-in on an ad-seg visit. They will let you know if they are booked when you call for the appointment.

I will say that I've noticed lately that visiting at Solano is much less crowed over all then it was during the winter... always seems less crowed at "Rent" time too. I guess the spring months and the economy might have something to do with it.

Just my take on things, hopefully, someone with genuine Ad-seg visiting experience at Solano will post soon.

Blessings, Ally

I have an issue that is concerning Ad-Seg "the hole" Visits....
1 hour once a week is not enough time for a visit. How about asking the warden to extend the time to visit with our loved ones as they are only allowed just one appointment visit a week:confused:

Sorry he's in Ad Seg, hon. Yes, inmates often stay in Ad Seg for longer than 2 weeks. I've known guys who were in Ad Seg for over a year. Just depends on what he did.

Hopefully you'll hear from him soon. Be sure to send him some paper/envelopes and stamps.

I am sure they are not all alike but I have a blog that was written by an inmate about the shu . Please check it out and and then ask questions of any one you find from sol. My son was in the shu for 21 days, but many have been there much longer .
I will try to answer any questions. donazerozero

My husband was in Solano Ad Seg about a year ago....it is cell living...yes they have beds....and he had a cell mate. They can get mail but sometimes it takes awhile for them to get their property thats why people always say to send envelopes and stamps. Everything is limited but they get the same food they were to get if they went to chow...breakfast...lunch...dinner...except it gets delivered to the cell. They get yard in cages i think it was 2 hours a week. You can call the mail room and they will let you know what you can send to an inmate in Ad-seg. Oh and no phones and glass visits. Hope that helps.

my husband is in solano state prison and he is in ad/seg because he got a little weird and aggressive and i just found out that he is not taking any medication and he is being always in medication since the day he was born and the state declared him as mentally disabled so i don't know what to do because he don't supose to be in that kind of place, he supose to be in a medical facility!
I wonder if it's the prison's staff fault because they should it find out that he was taking medication or it's nobody's fault.
If anybody knows about this problem can you guys help me out.

He would be sent to the hole (Ad Seg), and depending on what they decide at his ICC, he could either go back out on yard, or get transferred to another prison. Also for how long depends on what they decide at ICC, it could be as sort as 30 days, to as long as a year, depends on if he is awaiting transfer to another prison or what they decide.
