I realize that only Natives enrolled in a tribe can own eagle feathers in general, but are there any exceptions? For instance, can a Native person give their non-Native spouse eagle feathers? Can a Native person have a non-Native recipient receive their feathers in a will? What if the non-Native person is recognized in the Native community as someone who practices Native sprituality and lifestyle, would they be less likely to be prosecuted in court for illegal possession?
Just wondering

No one except enrolled members of fed. rec. tribes are allowed to own a eagle feather so if you have one don't show it off to someone and this law make a lot of trouble for all Indian people that either belong to none rec. tribes/nations and those who are not enrolled of many reasons. Hearsay spoke of a man who was arrested this summer and will face prosecution. This is of course no # 1 prioroty with the law enforcement but a thing to be aware of.

Don't ask, don't tell (?)
Similar to the topic of "belonging" to a particular tribe: If one has "alittle" Native American heritage, 1/16th and is publically ( at a POW WOW) adopted by a tribal member and his family, how valid is this? I guess in the "white world" it doesn't mean much. In the Red World how much does it mean?? Looking for answers. Can this person consider themself socially part of the family, even if not a member of the tribe? Could they ever become a member of the tribe?
