I have a question, my exhusband was arrested back in 2002 because he physical abuse me.He went to jail for 5 months. He was going to go to prison for 5 or ten years for spousal rape, but i dropped those chargers because i felt bad. Now I regret it I should gone thru it. I did not see him for two years. After that I contacted him for a divorce. He did sign, but after a couples of months he came back stating he was sorry, and he was going to church. Me as a dummy believe him and went back to him.Now is been three years and the abuse started all over again after two years together.I kept quiet because i am embarrased ashame, and scare on what people going to say.My family told me not to go back with him because he was going to abuse me again. Now I want to know if i get the cops on him again for hitting me , how much time would he served in jail for second time abuse? He has a history of violence since he was a child.

Yes, you can call the police the next time, or you can just leave. Either one will work, but the simple fact is that you must be careful about leaving - very sneaky, very careful. Keep a phone with 911 programmed in, buy bear spray if you must, get your important papers out of the house and to a safe place (birth certificate, passport, license, any deeds to house, car, etc.) and save a little money if you can and stash that too. If you can go to your parents, then do it!

If you don't have the strength or opportunity to leave him on your own, then by all means use the police. You can even go to them now and warn them - show them his conviction, his picture, and tell them to take it seriously if you call...and promise not to misuse that call.
